When the AFL teams are announced prospect watchers get to see guys they have been following in the minors play against more elite competition. Suddenly we have Tanner English thrown in the mix and he is one hardly any of us have talked about.

So he is a 23 yr old 11th round 2014 draftee and a CF. He played most of the year in high A then skipped AA and finished the season in Rochester. I want to know more! Anyone got anything for me? Seth, if he is in the AFL, how can he not be a top 50 guy?

I have him at #29.

English is a good prospect. He was the Twins minor league defensive player of the year for 2015. He is a tremendous centerfielder. Very good range and speed. Strong arm. He's about 6-0 and maybe 165 pounds. He's struggling in the AFL, but he'll hold his own with the bat.

He should have spent the full season in Ft. Myers, but he had a few injuries. Had got hit in the helmet with a pitch. He had Lasik surgery. He was in Extended Spring Training, rehabbing and on the final day of his rehab stint, he had his ankle rolled on, so he missed another month or more. He returned to the Miracle, and since they were out of the playoffs ,English was bumped up to Rochester when Buxton was called up to the Twins.

Hey, wow, sorry I missed/forgot he was on your list!

And with all that time missed it makes sense for him to get some time in the AFL. Could it also be a test to see if he's ready for AA or AAA?

Sure, but he'll jump up to AA next year regardless.
