My look at the Twins for CTTP

Defense was one of my 5, but I think Buxton producing offensively and taking over center has given the Twins an excellent defensive outfield. It's really the left side of the infield that needs work as Dozier and Mauer are both above average defenders.

I had catching #2 behind the GM search due to Suzuki being a free agent and really not being adequate offensively or defensively to bring back. The in house options are solid backups, perhaps, but not starting caliber guys.

The defense in the outfield is much better, but Kepler is not a good defensive outfielder.  In 2019, he needs to be in the mix at 1B if he keeps progressing.  Mauer will be off the books and the Twins should know by then about Vargas and Park.

Why do you say Kepler is not a good defensive outfielder?

Because he booted a few routine balls?

Bref gave him a slightly positive dwar, which I would say about matches what I see watching him.

Kepler had 5 DRS in RF and another 1 in CF.  Yeah, he's done very well defensively.

BTW, our OF had -30 DRS, Our infield had -19.

Maybe the Braves will hire Stewart so the Twins can trade Santana for Swanson

Why do you think all Braves fans/employees/players wore black on Tuesday? Mourning the loss of the best trading partner a rebuild could have.

Stewart still owns his player representation agency. I'd wager he's an agent by winter meetings.

Kepler has solid range and a very good arm. He rated above average defensively.

Yet Rosario, Buxton, and Kepler were three of the highest-rated individual players for the Twins, which tells you just how bad the play from guys like Sano, Santana, Escobar, Arcia, etc. was in the outfield.

I think you'll be surprised what teams are willing to give for Erv. I know Braves fans have talked about bringing him in as an inning-eater in the Braves rotation, and most are willing to give up a pretty decent prospect grouping for him.

That would be great!  I'd question the sanity of the Braves for doing that as they are in a similar position regarding the quality of their team.

His arm is fine, I'm not sold on him in RF.  I don't care much for defensive metrics.

I think he's a better fit at 1B.  Our OF was the worst I've seen in my life before these three came up.

I'm completely sold on him in RF.  The metrics back up what my eyes were seeing.

Um, the Braves played at a 90-win pace for the last two months of the season. Cost themselves the #1 pick in the process when they had something like a 9-game lead when the Braves came to Minnesota. By the time the Twins came to Atlanta just a week later, it was a 4- or 5- game lead, and within a week or so, the Twins were the #1 pick team. Braves ended up with the #5 overall pick, but they're in position for a legit .500 team next year.

Exactly. His scouting has always been that he may have to move to first due to growing out of the outfield, but that he's a high-end corner outfield defender until that possibly happens (if it ever does) due to solid range and a very good arm.

Maybe the Twins should hire McDowell and give up a can of tuna or two for Miller

Yeah, remember last year when we were all optimistic about next year?  Let's see how the Braves do next year.  They were still one of the worst MLB teams this year.

And the Twins had valid reasons to be optimistic for 2016. It took essentially the entire starting rotation and closer going down with injury along with major stagnation in the development of prospects in order to achieve 2016, none of which could have been seen.

The Braves have set themselves up very well for a .500 season next year with their tremendous prospect depth at AA/AAA right now to fill in any needs on the major league club. It wouldn't surprise me to see them make a run at a guy like Quintana/Sale/Archer, perhaps not getting any of them, but their prospect options in the system would drive up the price for whomever does acquire them to astronomical levels.
