twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 What a great run by the Fish! Qualified for the playoffs on the last day of the season and go on to beat both St.Paul and Wichita on the road in the playoffs. This team was below .500 in July, picked up three key players and ran to the title, sweet! It can be done.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2017 Author Posted September 11, 2017 Goldeyes and Wingnuts in a repeat of the 2016 American Association Final. Games 1&2 in Wichita, beginning Wednesday night, back to Winnipeg for games 3-5. Hope to see the Fish win it in Winnipeg this year!

Sarah Verified Member Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I like the fact that the championship is Winnipeg versus Wichita. Very alliterative! Seriously though, I got to watch the Goldeyes a few times this season and they have a good team...
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2017 Author Posted September 16, 2017 Coming back to Winnipeg squared at one, Goldeyes host the final three. Hope to see them hoist the trophy on Sunday. .....the Goldeyes that is.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 Goldeyes lose 5-3 to the Wingnuts in game 3. Wichita leads the series 2-1, game 4 tomorrow night at Shaw Park. One of my favourite albums involves Wichita, "As Falls Wichita, so Falls Wichita Falls" by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. I'm still cheering for the Fish though.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2017 Author Posted September 19, 2017 Insane game 4 at Shaw Park last night. Goldeyes down 3-2, bottom of the 9th, 2 out, runner on 2nd, Wingnuts pitcher Ryan Kussmaul induces a ground ball to short, throw to 1st is in time, game over and the Wingnuts pour onto the field to celebrate........but wait........why is the umpire walking towards the mound for the celebration?Because he had called balk and nobody heard him, except Goldeyes batter Casey Turgeon, and the Wingnuts catcher. Back to your places everybody. Turgeon returned to the box and promptly stroked a double to score Wes Darvill and tie the game at 3.......wow!Turgeon later scored the winning run, almost an entire game later, as the Fish finally walked it off........ in the 17th inning!!!! Now that's playoff drama! The teams return to the field at Shaw Park for the deciding Game 5 tonight, should be a fun one. Probably a good chance someone from the crowd gets called in to pitch. Here's the balk. https://t.co/xn9wF2dgvQ
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 Last night rained out, game 5 goes tonight.....for real, it's sunny and warm........yes in Winnipeg, in September. Seriously.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 14-0 Fish in the 4th......
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 Goldeyes smoke the Wingnuts 18-2 in Game 5 and claim their 2nd American Association Championship in a row. Well done fellas! Congrats.
Sarah Verified Member Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 I saw the article about game four - baseball is a crazy game. Wow, must have been amazing to be at that one. Congrats to the Goldeyes, I got to watch them when they were playing the Saints this year and they had a good team.
