Minor League Trade Pieces

I have a hard time seeing how Arizona could clearly "win" that deal over Atlanta -- worst case, it seems like it will be a win-win -- Arizona will shed some salary and get a average-ish PH/utility option, and Atlanta took a chance on a decent prospect.  (I'll add that Toussaint is still very young, doesn't even have to be added to the 40-man until after 2017, and his recent K rate suggests he could be a bullpen option even if he fizzles out starting.)

Agree.  It's also worth noting, if Arizona had doubts about Toussaint for some reason, the industry certainly valued him highly last summer.  For now, he is just an asset, and they sold very low, getting a Pinch Hitter and $10 million salary relief.

In the end he may flame out, Arizona may have sold at the right time, but that doesn't mean they did a good job or maximized value

From the original list, Wheeler, Hildenberger and Palka would get some interest. It wouldn't be awful if the Twins kept these three since they are close to the majors. The Twins need pitching depth and Palka could compete for a 4th OF spot in the next year.

I think a better way to look at minor league trade options is to consider those that are "off the table". IMO:

  • Berrios
  • Chargois
  • Gonsalves

I'd also be reluctant to trade:

  • Gordon
  • L. Wade
  • Kirilloff

The first list includes those that will help the team currently being built. The other three are young and should only be traded if the Twins get controllable, major-league ready talent at positions of need (SS, C, SP). All of the others should be considered tradable, depending on what's offered.

My lists are just off the top of my head. Feel free to add or subtract.
