Joe Mauer Leads MLB in BB/K Ratio

There is no doubt that Joe has gotten off to a great start this season, controlling the zone and looking encouragingly like his old self.

He currently leads all of baseball with a 2.80 BB/K ratio. Detriot's Jose Iglesias is the only other player who currently boasts a BB/K ratio above 2.00.

Mauer is also tied for 4th with 14 BB on the season, and tied for for 7th in fewest strikeouts with 5.

Only time well tell if Mauer can keep up his production, but his peripherals would indicate he's seeing the ball better than he has in years.

I agree about Mauer.  Looking much better from the prior two years.  There is no reason to suspect he can't win another batting title in the next couple of years.

What I find interesting though when discussing walks is that Sano is right up there as well (12 BB when I last looked).  I know his strike outs and BB/K ratio are ugly but that issue has seemed to start improving.  Sano had 3 walks in his last game...Plate discipline looks impressive to me for such a young guy.

Mauer's hitting this year has been a very nice positive turn for the Twins. Brain injuries are a very troubling and mysterious thing. If Joe has somehow recovered then great for him and it's great to have his bat back in the lineup. Good luck JM
