Miller: Darnell Trying To Get Back With The Twins

In the Star Tribune, Phil MIller wrote a very nice article on lefty Logan Darnell. He pitched pretty well down in Venezuela this winter and when he returned home, Terry Ryan called to tell him he'd been DFAd.

I talked to Darnell while he was in DFA limbo. He made it clear that he wanted to stay with the Twins, but told me, "I'm OK with whatever happens. I just want to make a difference in people. I can do that anywhere I go!"

He was a two-time Harmon Killebrew Award winner in Rochester. Last year, he struggled early in his adjustment to the bullpen, but when moved back to the starting rotation in August, he was incredible. In fact, I've had people tell me that they had never seen him pitch better. He earned the September call up, but unfortunately got sick with pneumonia and lost 17 pounds.

This is one really good person, so I personally would love to see him stick and pitch well and get another shot at some point with the Twins. I think that's realistic.

But anyway, Phil's story is very good. Read it

I was really surprised to see Darnell DFA'd, I sure woudl like to see him back in a Twins uniform pitching for the Twins in 2016. He could be a swing man out of the pen, set up guy, or rotation depth if a couple of injuries to the rotation come to pass.

I agree. But since he cleared, it worked out.

I agree. But since he cleared, it worked out.

The fact that he cleared should be a hint about the potential MLB value of such a player, though.  If he sees MLB action in 2016, it will almost certainly mean that something in our pitching plan went terribly wrong.
