Is pressure a factor for Gibson? Or is he clutch?

After watching Gibson the past two years, I think he has trouble keeping his pitches down in the zone when he's in the stretch. Could be mechanics as much as nerves.

He's a 3 WAR pitcher under team control with some upside left in him. Not too shabby.

It's funny, there was a forum post after his previous start talking about how he couldn't handle the pressure of late-season starts. Baseball, and sports in general, are very much What Have You Done For Me Lately?

Actually, I posted that because of the last one. It was pretty much an effort to have a little fun on my part and to show that we shouldn't jump to conclusions based on one game or a small set of games. However, I'm guilty of that as well - and we probably all are to some degree.

My actual thoughts on Gibson are that he is getting better and while his ceiling isn't a #1 or probably a #2 he is going to continue to be a very serviceable picture who can help lead a team to the playoffs.

So his one game against a mediocre team trumps his other struggles in big games? I think you might be jumping to conclusions.

He looked great yesterday, but the Twins also spotted him a 5-0 lead, so he wasn't exactly pitching in "high leverage" situations, which is where he has struggled most.

Again, looked great, no complaints, I know this post is done very tongue in cheek, but I'm still very concerned about him in high leverage situations moving forward. Is he solid mid to back end rotation guy currently? Of course, but I for one am hoping he can make that next step and become a #2 type, something this team has desperately needed for a very long time.
