Derek Wetmore wrote an article on what is important in a pitching coach. He chatted with several pitchers about what is important to them in a pitching coach.

The four thoughts were:

  1. Communication
  2. Understanding of Mechanics
  3. Knowledge that every pitcher is different.
  4. The mental part of the game.

There are 4-6 quotes on each topic. This is a tremendous article.

What are your thoughts? What would you add to his list?

What I might add are Vision and Imagination.   The ability to see what's wrong, the ability to see what's right, the ability to see the possibilities that don't even exist yet.

Things to have in a piching coach:

1. Looks good walking from dugout to the mound.

2. Covers his mouth when he talks to pitchers on the mound.

3. Has a plethora of baseballisms "calm down son, just throw strikes" etc

4. Looks good in a team jacket

5. Has a good supply of dugout pranks.
