Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Game-time forecast: Clear. Winds blowing out to right field at 5-15 m.p.h. Temperature around 55. (Yes, back to the real weather game-time local forecasts. Yesterday's was from Aqaba, Jordan, if anyone cares.) Tigers:SP, Porcello Kinsler 2BHunter RFCabrera 1BMartinez DHJackson CFCastellanos 3BAvila CRomine SSDavis LF Twins:SP, Correia Dozier 2BMauer 1BPlouffe 3BColabello RFKubel LFPinto DHSuzuki CFuld CFFlorimon SS -------------------------- Brian's deep in it at the moment. In thought. That's the 'it' I meant. More from him later. Until then ... Go Twins! ------------------------------------------------------- Oh I'm in more than "it"... As for yesterday's forecast from Jordan... I care. Things to think about: 1. The Detroit Tigers -- Our first look at the Tigers... They are not the same Tigers as last year in my opinion. No Fielder... No Fister... A supposedly talented rookie at 3B and a new speedy OF in Davis along with Ian Kinsler and Joe Nathan coming in to fill important rolls. Dombroski is trying to adjust his team after coming close the past two years. Will this be the year? 2. Miqgy -- Mr. Cabrera is perhaps the finest hitter in baseball. However... A lot of baseball experts will tell you that it's important to protect your big hitters by having a big hitter behind him. With Fielder in Texas... It remains to be seen if Martinez is scary enough behind him. Scary enough to force opposing pitchers to worry about walking him. Scary enough to give Cabrera something to swing at instead of keeping everything away from him. It depends on if you believe it that matters at all. I'm not sure I do... Hitters are gonna hit because Pitchers are gonna pitch. 3. Fuld/Hicks -- Sam Fuld has hit the ground running and is swinging a hot bat right now. So Fuld is in the lineup and Hicks is on the bench. I know this will concern those who feel that Hicks is part of our future and also feel that Fuld is not. I just think that April is too early to throw in the towel and you gotta try to win games right now. If Fuld is getting it done... Put him in the lineup and let him get it done. 4. One game behind the Tigers -- That's right... The Twins are one game behind the AL Central leading Tigers and they go head to head this weekend. I'm gonna sit down and watch the game and pretend it's September!!! 5. Don't Stop Believin' -- "Just a City Boy... Born and raised in South Detroit" There is no such place as "South Detroit" nor has there ever been. South of the city of Detroit is the Detroit River and South of that is Windsor Ontario. Journey is from San Francisco bay area... They should have put the Boy in Palo Alto and why are they taking midnight trains? An afternoon train would be just fine for going anywhere. In the song... The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald... Gordon Lightfoot calls it "De-Troy-It". He must have needed an extra syllable. I've been to De-Troy-It once... I wanted to De-Stroy-It. It's a miserable place!!!

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 How on earth is Florimon in again instead of Escobar? Cause Gardy say so!
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 In the song... The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald... Great, now I'm going to be humming that the rest of the day. Could be worse ... could be humming Icona Pop's I Love It ... D'OH!!!!
twinscowboysbulls Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I'm sorry to disappoint you all, but tonight and tomorrow I will not be posting ridiculously stupid comments here, instead will be making them live at Target Field. I called Dankind, ItsTimetoGetRehdy and Statfreak and asked that they each pick up a shift. Hope they can fill my shoes adequately. Go twins!
MichiganTwins Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 This game needs to begin already. I am excited to see what we can do against the Tigers and their stupid fans. Hoping we sweep them to shut their fans up.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I'm going a bit off-topic here, but I have a question. I'll be at Target Field tomorrow and I am wondering if there is Wi-Fi available there so that I can post and also follow the game thread. I figure that I would post the question here because it will have the most traffic before and during the game.

But I do know that off topic is really hard to achieve in the game thread.

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Got an errand or two to try to run before the game, but i, too, am aquiver with anticipation for this here game! Thanks for all the music references, as they gave me something to listen to. "some will win, some will lose, and some are born to play the blues..." And my take on the pronunciation of Detroit... it's poitic license. Me? I'll always think of Robocop as my documentary on what that fine metropolis is like. (Now the relevant theme music is bouncing through my ears... I also could do worse than that) Anyway, yes, it'll be a lot of fun to see what Fuld does in center. I'll be be back soon...
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Don't Stop Believing ... was the defacto 'theme song' of the 2005 White Sox. In fact, Journey came and sang at their victory parade/rally. And during the 7th inning stretch ... I think it's the 7th inning, maybe they do it another inning ... the crowd at AT&T Park sings 'Lights.'

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Hmmm, that almost sounds like a challenge... Whatdya think about Bug repellant? Might that be an Off! topic? Ha Ha... Good one!!! You had to "Raid" the back sections of your mind for that one. No worries... It didn't "repel" anyone.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Hmm. Aquaba, Jordan. Who had that in the pool? In my pool... A bunch of leaves from October.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Correia vs. Porcello. The Twins will be underdogs. Just where they want to be.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 But I do know that off topic is really hard to achieve in the game thread. Don't you hate it when a sentence doesn't end the way you think it paramecium?
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Don't you hate it when a sentence doesn't end the way you think it paramecium? Yeah I know... It's leaves you Charleston West Virginia what the original intent of the Frank Robinson was.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Ha Ha... Good one!!! You had to "Raid" the back sections of your mind for that one. No worries... It didn't "repel" anyone. Yes, in"deet" i did... didn't know i had back sections, so it was worth the effort. Need a bit of a cleaning, though, so for the moment, i'll just throw down a roach motel, and trust to the spiders to keep the rest of the bugs out. Anyway, game's on!
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Yeah I know... It's leaves you Charleston West Virginia what the original intent of the Frank Robinson was. Leaves me wondering what's the meta for... (2 down)
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Intent, you say? Here is an interesting study that should have bearing on tonight's game against the Tigers: On the Role of Prosodic Structure in French Loanword Incorporation into Bambara

diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 So the question is how is colabello not even on the allstar ballot? I'd say something about all star game being a complete joke, especially this early in April....
