Quality Starts and Nolasco's return

Twins Video

According to Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press, Ricky Nolasco will be making a rehab start in Cedar Rapids on Saturday. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_27945723/minnesota-twins-ricky-nolasco-set-rehab-assignment?source=rss

If it is successful, he should be returning to the Twins. Will he take his place in the rotation or will they put Nolasco in the bullpen?

After Pelfrey's 7 innings of shutout pitching last night, all 5 of the current starters have had a quality start.

If Molitor puts Nolasco in the rotation, who should Nolasco replace ?

I don't know what WILL happen...but what SHOULD happen is moving Pelfrey back to the pen. I'll be the first to say he pitched a nice game Wednesday night against KC. In fact, it might have been the best game he's pitched in a Twins uniform. However, history would indicate this good game is not the norm. And Pelfrey is not part of the future of the club, unless it would be as an effective, re-invented reliever.

After years of Pimo and Walters and others being shuffled out to the mound in shackles and bowed head over and over and over, how could you possibly tell a top prospect like May thanks but no thanks, we'll call you sometime.

With what sounds like an effectively wild start and then gaining control of his game, Pelfrey actually deserves another start, maybe 2.  Can anyone remember the last time Nolasco had a quality start?

I'm wondering if Gibson isn't the one for a short stint in AAA?

Pelfrey was throwing 94mph pitches in the 7th inning.  This could be the first of many fine performances. Pino, Walters and the rest never came close to that.

Pelfrey's ERA is 2.65, which is mind-boggling to me even though I though he earned a starter's job out of spring training.  He is often in trouble, but doesn't give up many runs.  I think what helps him is, he's a sinker-ball pitcher, and the best part of the Twins' feeble defense is the infielders.

I think they should move Nolasco to the pen.  Pelfrey earned a starting job a second time.  Nolasco hasn't done ****.

Pelfrey is an emergency starter only. Especially given that May is showing enough to stick around. So unless Pelfrey matches or improves upon his last start, Pelfrey is the odd man out.

That's what should happen, though not necessarily will happen. :)

However, in the article, Ryan also said that Nolasco might pitch two games in AAA, which would delay Ryan having to make a decision he doesn't want to make. Which begs the question of whether Nolasco is even good enough to crack this rotation in the first place.
