Byron Buxton to Play for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic

Twins Video

Today it was announced that Twins slugger Byron Buxton will join Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Buxton joins an already stacked Outfield with Corbin Carroll (AZ) Pete Crow-Armstrong (CHC) Aaron Judge (NYY) and Kyle Schwarber (PHI). As of right now there is no confirmed starting roster but if I was Team USA Manager Mark DeRosa, I would put the Outfield together like this - LF Corbin Carroll CF Byron Buxton RF Aaron Judge DH Kyle Schwarber with Pete Crow-Armstrong on the bench. Buxton Joins other Twins such as 2B Edouard Julien (CAN) and RHP Joe Ryan (USA) in the World Baseball Classic. But I suspect these wont be the final Twins on World Baseball Classic rosters.

Buxton is a bench player on that team, though I'm sure they will rotate players frequently.

they have too many lefties with the current lineup so im guessing he will start majority of games.

Who are the top LHP in the WBC? I'm guessing there aren't many. I haven't seen Framber Valdez, Jesus Luzardo or Ranger Suarez announced for the Dominican Republic, Peru or Venezuela.

I wish he wasn't on the team at all.  He's frequently injured and should not be playing for any team other then the Minnesota Twins.

IF -- if he is going to get hurt, and it is an absolute item that will happen, which team he is on is pointless.

Or if he gets hurt early , he may not miss as much time regular season.

This is a mistake! Buxton playing in the WBC has disaster written all over it, given his injury history. He should know better and focus on being ready and healthy for the season, IMO. When his next injury happens, as we know it will, it should be while playing for the Twins, not in the WBC.

Buxton has a chance to actually win something and show off his talent on a national stage in the WBC. With the Twins he'll be playing for 4th place with a couple thousand fans in the stands.
