Varland Optioned to St. Paul - 8/15/24

Twins Video

Just saw that the Twins have optioned Louie Varland back to St. Paul. No corresponding move yet announced. Looks like Festa and Matthews are the short term winners for the #4 and #5 rotation spots with Varland as #6 for the time being. Assume he will be back before 9/1 in the bullpen unless there's another injury.

Henriquez up for the road trip. Winder was the unlucky one to get Varland up for the start. I’d like to see Winder back as soon as he is eligible.

Tell Varland its BP or bust.

I would think that's where it is going, however he did look pretty good in his last start. We just saw them take 3 of 4 at Texas. This next series will tell you much about how the rest of the year plays out.

There seems to be a sense of calm, almost arrogance about the messages I'm getting from the manager via the FO. If I'm running this team Lewis has no rest days, Correa gets his butt back on the field, and Buxton, come on man...this is a pennant race from here on out.

I just don't know...the personnel decisions, the trade deadline non-action, and the total secrecy of injury news seems like they don't want to win....it's just...frustrating.

I don't understand this comment. First, we've seen the (in)effectiveness of both Correa and Buxton when injured (and the number of injuries to Lewis), so the emphasis should be on getting them and keeping them healthy. I also fail to see how being 'less secret' about injuries is an issue - none of us has any effect on the games, and it may well be in the Twins benefit to not reveal some stuff. Bill Belichik was famously tight-lipped about injuries, and nobody ever claimed he didn't want to win.

Agreed. If the injured players are ineffective they shouldn't be playing and being secretive about injuries is normal practice. It's very clear the players and manager want to win. The FO is clearly hamstrung by ownership when it comes to spending. That''s the only thing you can blame someone for. It's hard to blame players for being injured when injuries are all over MLB.

You're right, I'm sorry...I just thought Correa would be back sooner....it's hard to get info from Alaska

I think I hear Varland yelling - put me in the BP, I am tired of this up and down treatment.
