Like most Twins fans emotionally I was sad to see Justin leave the team. During his time here he made a lot of memories for us and was easily one of the most loved Twins during our run in the 2000s and into the Target field years. Like many Twins fans I wonder how his career would look if injuries hadn't slowed him down. However from a need perspective the trade needed to happen. With Justin being a free agent at the end of the year it wouldn't make much sense to make the qualifying offer to
Also posted at wgom.org Rob Wilfong (1953) David West (1964) Second baseman Robert Daniel Wilfong played for the Twins from 1977-1982. He was born in Pasadena, California, went to high school in Covina, California, and was drafted in the thirteenth round by the Twins in 1971. He had somewhat mixed results in the minors, but after hitting .305 with AAA Tacoma in 1976, he made his big-league debut with the Twins at the start of the 1977 season. He spent most of that season with the Twins,
Okay, It may be going a bit far to compare Terry Ryan to Ed Wood. I must say, at least Ed Wood has eccentricities and a personality that makes him more interesting. Terry Ryan is not as bad as a GM as Ed Wood is a movie director, but I think M. Night Shyamalan is a very good comparable. M. Night Shyamalan’s movies from from 1999 to 2004 were great to acceptable – everything that he did afterward was a miserable train wreckage. From 2006-2013 he has served as a director/producer and his prod
Slam the Door (Twins 1 Royals 6 - Game 130) I won't pretend any interest in following this game. A certain combination of real life emergencies left my family shell-shocked and living in a bunker mentality. This delayed my game recaps, and as you can imagine that delay was the least of our concerns. I woke up from a nap that felt like a flatline to the Twins taking the fall on a heavy-hitting eighth inning. A score like that tells me I didn't miss anything by skipping out on the cleats and s
In the recent news of the Justin Morneau trade the Twins have welcomed aboard a new outfielder to an already crowded outfield. Alex Presley is one (and now two, second is RHP relief pitcher Duke Welker, who also came from AAA) of the two players who will come over to the Twins organization in this trade. Out of all the articles I have read over the past few hours about the this trade I have always found myself saying the same thing after reading them, Who is Alex Presley? And why did the Twins
On June 10th 2003, Justin Morneau picked up a base hit in his first at bat in his big leauge debut against the Colorado Rockies at the Metrodome. ast foward to August 30th, 2013 in Arlington, Texas. Morneau hit the eventual game winning home run into the second deck off of Cy Young candidate Yu Darvish. His 221st homer with the Twins. That homer moved him past Tony Oliva for 3rd on the all-time home run list. That would be his last hit in a Twins uniform after 11 seasons with the club. I say tha
I know the picture doesn't fit, but for what might be the last time, let's give #33 another cover photo. This from a happier time. Let's hope there is more champagne in Morneau's near future... and also that none of the corks hit him in the head. If you want to weigh in on the trade and it's reactions. Go here. Tonight was a very significant night for the Rochester Red Wings. It's also a big night for Josmil Pinto, as he is with the Twins and will make his

It looks like Miguel Sano will be on a plane back to the Dominican Republic instead of a flight to Target Field in a few days. GM Terry Ryan said earlier today that Sano will not likely get the September call that so many Twins fans wanted badly. I have talked to a number Twins fans I know the past couple weeks and they all came up with the same answer to my question, "Whould you go to Target Field if Sano wasn't here in September?" Answer: NO!!!!!!!! Thats just the people I talked to and by

He was born in Springfield, Illinois, and was drafted by the Twins out of the University of New Orleans in the third round in 1977. He had an excellent year in AA Orlando, going 8-4 with a 1.98 ERA, and found himself in Minnesota at the start of the 1978 season. He went 14-13 that year with a 3.96 ERA in 256 innings, but could not replicate his success t
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! I also wrote about that Francisco Liriano trade from a million years ago, if you want to read about it. After the 2009 season, the Twins decided to make a smart move and deal from outfield depth to address a position that had been a weakness on the team for the better part of 20 years. Just one year later, the Twins decided, "meh, shortstops are for dorks" and traded that same player away for a couple of relievers. Buckle up folks, it's very h

Latham started 1985 with the Mets and did not do badly, posting an ERA of 3.97 and a WHIP of 1.24 in
I haven't paid close attention to the Twins for the past couple of weeks. I was on the road last (long) weekend and have played golf in the warm weather every night. I caught part of the game yesterday and followed along as the Twins were swept today. My frustration level with the product on the field has reached new highs. I checked out the numbers for all of the players and besides the disabled Mauer, no one is an even average hitter for their position. Yesterday was a sloppy defensive ga
With 2013 being lost and 2014 not looking good for the start, this is my plan, on a limited payroll, est $80-$90 million(dueable with extra $25 million Twins will get next year for TV/radio rights) to try and put a competitive team on the field and sell seats to the fans. 1. Upgrade starting pitching staff. Sign if possible Josh Johnson and Tim Lincecum to contracts. Johnson should be a one year with option at about $7 millions. Lincecum may need 3 years for about $15 million a year to get it
Almost exactly six years ago, I sat several rows up from home plate as Scott Baker took a perfect game in to the ninth inning against the Kansas City Royals. While he didn't complete his date with immortality, it was the closest I've ever come to seeing a Major League no-hitter in person. On Wednesday night, I watched Baker continue to try to work his way back to the Big Leagues with the Chicago Cubs with a rehabilitation start for the Kane County Cougars against the future Twins suitin
There was a ton of exciting action in the Twins farm system on Wednesday. Matt Summers took his Florida State League leading ERA to the mound for the Miracle. The Kernels were set to face off against former Twins pitcher Scott Baker as he works his way back from injury. New Britain found themselves in a back and forth contest that went well into the Eastern League night. Let's check out what happened down on the pond. Rochester Red Wings 5, Buffalo Bisons 2 Box Score Scott Diamond made his
According to Phil Miller of the Star Tribune Josh Willingham has been claimed by an unknown team through waivers. The Twins now have until Friday to either trade him and his $7 million salary or pull him back and keep him for the rest of the year. Knowing that Willingham is now back healthy and starting to pick up the pace offensively it would be a smart move for many contending teams to take a bid at the 34 year old left fielder. With waivers it would start with the American league, then i
On Saturday, Tait went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double. The 19-year-old is hitting .219 with 17 doubles and 15 home runs at High-A Cedar Rapids.
