  1. The bad news is that while we have two off days, the Indians play two and the Sox play one. So we could be back to 1.5 games out when the Tribe comes to town on Friday...or not.
  2. What a great day for Rooker to get his first bomba, seeing he grew up a Cardinal fan. Not worried about Dobnak as the movement of his pitches that caused his problem yesterday is also the movement that makes him effective. Gotta expect one or two crappy starts every season.
  3. With Dobnak and Berrios pitching today, expect one (Berrios) will come back to start Sunday against Cleveland on normal rest. That would mean Pineda could start Saturday on normal rest with Maeda pitching the opener Friday with an extra day of rest. Sets up nicely for what will be a huge series for the Twins effort to win the division. Will be interesting to see if Rocco skips Hill to have what may be his three best starters versus the Indians. I know many of us thought Dobnak could/should have gone another inning last time out. Do you think, Tom, that Rocco had this game in mind when he pulled him from a short start?
  4. Certainly appears that at least a couple of the competition has superior young prospects/newbies than you listed for the Twins. That's in part due to the less than stellar summers from Smeltzer and Thorpe vs. the young arms they are compared with. Now Balazovic, Duran, Canterino and others down on the farm could move the Twins up that analysis...should a couple of that group approach their ceilings.
  5. Great read, Seth, thanks. Not certain where I would rank the Twins prospects/newbies if ranking these teams 1-5. What are your thoughts? Certainly some great young arms for each of those teams.
  6. You may be right, Nick. But unless you or some of your partners at TD have had conversations with someone in the FO you don't know what their plans are for his future. It appears that he is part of the heart and soul of this team, at least to someone like me on the outside looking in. As for having multiple prospects ready to replace him, do we? I like Kirilloff, Larnach and Rooker as well as any of you. But until they have shown they can be as productive at least at AAA (yes, Rooker was), the team may want to continue with Eddie. Yes, if he isn't signed to something longer than next year come winter you will probably be proven correct. But Rocco keeps putting him somewhere in the middle of his lineup, so I'm not so certain the guys running the team believe he is clearly on his way out.
  7. I must take exception, Andrew, to your comment..."Eddie Rosario made a stupid base running mistake that likely cost the Twins runs early in the game." And to be honest, I am surprised that a writer at Twins Daily would make such a comment. Yes, like most of us I cringed when Eddie was caught short of third getting into a run down for a second straight day. But then I listened to Justin Morneau explaining how the situation developed. Rosario was slowing as he approached second, at which time he saw Diaz waiving the runner ahead of him home. With the throw likely going home, it made sense to get to third with only one out. Yes, the outfielder threw to third and Rosie was caught in the run down. But Justin certainly didn't seem to think it was a bad decision. When the camera showed Rosario getting to the dugout his teammates also didn't seem to appear to think it was stupid as they patted him on the back and gave him high 5's.
  8. I got a real good smile out of your above comment about not wanting your grandkids to play like Eddie. Well, my grandkid is a gal, so it isn't apples to apples. But if she were a guy and played like Eddie, I would love it should he like Eddie became a regular starter on a big league team.
  9. Want to comment on something several have referred to about Eddie. That is that he plays for himself, in caps. Except when he is beat up or worn down, Eddie usually plays at one speed, 110 mph. Lots of good stuff happens when he does that, and some bad. But this is who he is. Personally, I love the guy. And yes, like most of you I cringe when he makes one of his usually mental mistakes...or two. But I truly believe that Eddie is not thinking of what is best for him when he does make those mistakes. More likely, he is playing his game on full speed auto pilot and isn't thinking at all.
  10. But he is the 4th string catcher. Unfortunately, he has to play some when the first two are hurt. He seemed to be more adequate last year. Wondering if he didn't get a lot of time behind the plate while in St. Paul.
  11. Isn't there serious discussion that the playoffs will be in a bubble. Have seen several references to Southern Cal, although they should be able to get better locations with less COVID...although the weather is always a plus in So Cal in October.
  12. Ugly, just plain ugly. Did Trevor May have the best and worst games of his entire career this weekend? I will only blame Eddie for running thru the stop sign. Yes, that may have led to a big inning, or not. The ball off the end of his glove was a great attempt that didn't happen. And that weird ground rule is just plain stupid. No way should a ball that hits off something not in the field of play be in play. Hopefully, that rule will be changed asap. Unfortunately, the entire bullpen seemed to wear out in the same game. Gotta wonder if all these bullpen games is starting to take its toll. And while speaking of the bullpen, am wondering what Smeltzer's role is with this team going forward? If any? Expect he will be the next man assigned to St. Paul when the next pitcher is ready....Odorizzi on Tuesday maybe? Can't tell you how happy I am that Balazovic, Canterino and Barnes have been added to the St. Paul group. Should the Twins be so fortunate to play well into October, this trio should get a month and a half work in what is otherwise a wasted summer. Now lets get Rortvedt to CHS Field also.
  13. Should we be so fortunate as to win the division, we may look back at the second game Friday together with yesterday's game as the point in the season where it happened. These two wins are just plain HUGE!
  14. Gotta be happy for this young man. Didn't see him getting called up, unless there was an injury to one of the starting corner outfielders. Well, that sure keeps happening this summer. Don't know how long this stay will be but really would like to see him whack a couple real long bomba's this next week. Heck, maybe the old Cardinals fan can get one in St. Louis on Tuesday.
  15. Will join those who would like to see Rooker join the club this month. The question that must be asked, however, who do you want to waive off the 40-man roster to make his callup happen? That's right, Rooker isn't on the 40-man. Who gets DFA'd...Thorpe? Gordon? Wade? Astudillo? Blankenhorn? So there will be a real cost should Rooker be called up for the next few weeks. That is unless someone is injured and can be stashed on the 60/45 day IL.
  16. Agree that I would love to see how he does against big league pitching for a couple weeks. But the cost of getting him a couple weeks would be losing someone off the 40-man. So the question is, who do you want to lose for him to get those couple weeks? If you look at the 40-man, there is no longer some cannon fodder on that roster like years past. Losing anyone will have a cost tied to it as it would have to be someone like Wade, Gordon, Astudillo, Thorpe. Is it worth losing someone like that for Rooker to see ten games with the Twins?
  17. Now that was better, although the two injuries hurt. If both are going to be out more than a few days, they are going to have to make a move. Will Vargas pass thru waivers and get back on the 40-man and active rosters? Again impressed with Alcala. Gotta believe he will be a big part of future pens beginning next year. As for bringing in Rooker, Kirilloff or other young prospects, just don't see it. They would need to make a 40-man move, plus burn an option year for what...a handful of games this year. Unless someone gets hurt a few weeks down the road so the player isn't likely to be optioned, don't see them adding anyone. With that said, watch for one of them to be called up tomorrow.
  18. Good article that seems to make sense. Only one problem. With Buxton up yesterday and hopefully Donaldson today, there aren't any open spots for anyone. Agree, they may have missed their chance to see how he would have done during these past few weeks.
  19. Didn't someone once say that the Twins are a better team when Buxton is on the field? Much Better! And what a great start by Pineda. Those runs in the first inning would not have scored had Sano not had a mental cramp and covered first base. Question, Seth. Is it possible that Pineda is the Twins best starting pitcher? What a pleasant surprise the local kid, Thielbar, has been since his return. And Wisler just keeps pitching well, very well. Both doing what we hoped Littell and Stashak would be doing had they not been MIA.
  20. Less than three hours to go. Hopefully, we won't trade for a pitcher without doing due diligence on his medical records because there wasn't time...like last year. Personally, am fine with them making no moves or a minor move. Biggest help should come from getting the gang back together. Certainly don't want to move one of the top three or four prospects. But then you all know how I feel about prospects.
  21. Today was just plain ugly, as was yesterday and this entire week. Yes, it will help getting Pineda and the injured three position players back. But will they be here soon enough? Three against the White Sox this week. Lose those and they are at a real risk of not making the playoffs. Time for somebody in the organization to start kicking some butt and getting some players and managements attention.
  22. What depth at the alternate site? Read in the Strib that they don't have enough players there for Donaldson to play a 9 inning game at third.
  23. Will second the above comments about Arraez. Would be interested in learning what his average was say the first 20 games and then the last dozen? He came out of this screwed up spring/summer camp not hitting anything like last year. But the batter I have seen the last week plus is much more similar to what we expected. Personally, I have confidence that will continue and by year end, Arraez will have an average well over .300. As for Buxton, well he had a short streak of hitting very well before again going down with an injury. The real disappointment, as you mention, has been Garver. Was last year a fluke? Or is this year terrible due to the weird circumstances? Expect we will know a year from now...assuming baseball has a normal 2021 season. If last year was a fluke, the Twins are fortunate to have two very good catching prospects approaching being ready.
  24. I have been thinking the same, Finlander. Should two of Odorizzi, Hill or Pineda pitch well the last 25+ games, there is a chance Berrios could miss being part of the playoff rotation should they makes the playoffs...which is highly likely. Can't see the Manager not including him in the starting four, but will he have deserved it. He can make a statement by being closer to the pitcher he was a week ago than last night. Guess time will tell.
