    Zack Granite just continues playing beyond anyone's expectations. Expect we will see him up here in September, or sooner should they be able to move an outfielder for pitching in July. What did you think of Busenitz last night, Seth? I saw the last few innings and thought he is someone they can work with. And now that the $1mm savings is set, they can get those two HS pitchers signed.

    Like everyone, I wanted the Twins to take the guy named Strasburg. Oh, someone like him wasn't there this year. So in the real world, immediate pitching help doesn't come from the draft. The last two games were examples of how badly the Twins need pitching, both starters and relievers. But that help will only come from one of three places, trades, free agents and pitchers in the high minors. So the answer to their problem wasn't McKay, Greene or Wright. But it may be guys named Jorge, Romero, Gonsalves and maybe Thorpe.

    Sure was an interesting day/night, wasn't it John? I sincerely hope they were able to save $$$ on the Lewis pick. Don't know what happened after that, but I suspect someone was no longer on the board. But there are lots of rounds to use the money, even if it ends up approaching $2.0mm. And lets remember they will be drafting #1 on day 3, when they went way over $100,000 to take the pitcher needing TJ last year. I do have a question. If you don't sign a pick in the 1st round, you get an equal pick the following year. When does that end, after the 1st round, COMP A round, round 2? Thanks!

    Interesting that you mention Feller. Went goose hunting with him one morning on our farm when I was about 11 or 12. Gave me a baseball with a very nice personal comment. While in college, my parents sold the farm and my Mom tossed it with a lot of other stuff.

    Was at a dinner one night with a crafty former MLB lefty. His comment was something (I won't print his exact words) to the effect...all this hoopla about throwing 90-95 is nothing but B.....He went on to say he never got close to 90, hit your spots with good stuff and you can be very successful. Didn't check, but I recall he had something like 360 MLB wins, which I believe was the most ever for any lefty.

    I recall a pitcher from, I think Chaska, several years ago, Seth. If I recall, he was picked in a comp round or maybe early in the 2nd round. Do you remember who that was? And if so, where is he at?

    Chattanooga is in a 3-way tie and face one of them, Montgomery, tonight. Great night to send Gonsalves to the hill. Granite is certainly playing like a young man who wants a promotion. Does someone get traded next month to open a spot for him in the Twins outfield?

    *They also have to add guys like Curtiss, Hildenberger, Reed, Busenitz, Burdi and several others this offseason, so we'll see. it'll be interesting. And lets not forget the best pitcher of all that I assume has to be added...Lewis Thorpe.

    Great seeing Gonsalves back up to almost 100 pitches. Could missing the first 6 weeks of the season give him the innings to extend his season thru September?

    Gotta agree with twinswatch. Don't see how 8 home runs in the month isn't worthy of the top 5. Interesting reading about Cavaness. Thinking back a bunch of years, Seth, didn't the Twins have another prospect from Lindenwood or another school in Belleville (if there is one)? Don't remember the name, thought you might recall.

    Interesting that Rosario is the first reliever called up from the group in Chattanooga. And another very good outing from Thorpe is fantastic.

    Can he be the next Robin Yount? If so, take him and bring him up this September. Trade Dozier in July or the off-season and move Polanco to second.

    I've heard of double negatives, Seth. But had never seen a double option...got a good smile, thanks. I also am a fan of Vargas' bat and believe it belongs in the lineup nearly every day, certainly at least 5 days a week.

    I have been out of town for awhile (although I read TD daily) and on the road the last two...but when did Vargas go back to Rochester? And what did he do to deserve the demotion? Makes no sense to me.

    A great second outing by Lewis Thorpe. If he can build on this, he just could be the next best starting prospect in the organization.

    Was that Romero's best outing this year, Seth? Would be great to see him string together several starts like this.

    Speaking of relief pitchers, was good to see Burdi fail last night...even though his line looked good. Will be good for him to work at getting out of innings with inherited runners not scoring. I have often wondered why managers don't use their best reliever for those type of situations, rather than only in the 9th inning. Many games could be won in earlier innings if a reliever could come in and keep runners from scoring.

    Thorpe threw 49 pitches in 4.0 innings Friday. Gave up 3 hits, 1 walk and a solo home run. Not bad for first time out in two years.

    The news on Thorpe is the best news I have heard this year, especially going straight to the Miracle . Expect they kept him in EST long enough that he won't pitch more innings than they want the rest of the Miracle season. After missing two years, we are going to have to be patient as I am certain there will be a few bumps along the way. But if Thorpe can get back to the pitcher he was, he can be that top of the line starter we all have been waiting for.

    Great seeing Granite back on the field. Assume he will return to Rochester in a week or so. Still plenty of time for him to have a great year, a year that can earn him a September call up.

    Any recent news on Thorpe, Seth? I assume he is pitching a limited number of innings in EST. Any inside information on how he is doing or where he is likely headed once assigned to a team? What do you think, 100 innings limit in 2017? Or will it be less? Do you know how many innings a week he is throwing in EST? For a team that needs pitching as badly as the Twins, I once believed Thorpe was their best internal prospect. But that was before he missed two years to injuries. Maybe the Twins and Thorpe will get lucky and he will get back on track to what he might have been. Thanks Seth.

    It seems I recall that back when the Twins signed Polanco, it was thought he was signed for his glove and any offensive production would be a plus. For the past few years, everyone talks about his bat amidst concerns for his glove. I suspect the glove has always been there, just hampered a bit by lack of playing time at short. I see it being pretty good by the end of the year.
