  1. Thanks for doing this again this year, Seth. I know you know that many of us appreciate it. I also know how much work you and your associates put into this. My one thought today as I read this was, "Damn, I hate one game play-ins for the GCL finals." Will feel much better about it, by the way, if we win today! Thanks again and have a wonderful Labor Day!
  2. I agree that Thorpe may be the best pitching prospect in the system. There is the large # of players needing to be added this fall, including Gonsalves, Littell, Reed, Diaz, Stewart, Moya, Bard, Burdi and Derek Rodriguez. That's nine, not including Thorpe. My concern is that because he was at Hi-A, they try to sneak him thru. I expect that would be a HUGE mistake. But I won't sleep easy until I see him on the roster.
  3. Is Thorpe a definite add to the 40-man roster in November?
  4. Will be curious to see the other side of this move, Seth. Is it possible Vielema is taken off the 40-man?
  5. After reading this, Seth, took a look at Moran's numbers. One earned run in 20 innings...WOW! Twins are gonna have to put Moya on the 40-man roster in November, aren't they? Was thinking about that last night while watching the game. Does Jorge stay on the roster? Or is he at risk of being taken off as they look for spots for guys like Thorpe, Littell and others.
  6. Was reading something a few days ago and for the life of me, couldn't remember the name of that stocky kid who hit so well at Beloit back when. But the light bulb went off when I saw the name, Deacon Burns. Really thought he was going to make it, till he got to AA. Thanks
  7. Didn't Matt LeCroy hit the most home runs of any Twins player at Fort Myers? Wasn't it 20 something? Or was there someone else?
  8. What's interesting, Seth, is that almost all of the players on that list hit their home runs at Elizabethton. Big difference between there and Fort Myers. What did guys like Kris Bryant do during their draft year? Have you compared his results to a few guys like that?
  9. Zander Wiel, who has been at Fort Myers all year, leads the team with 12 home runs. Rooker, who has been there a little over a month, has 11. He only needs one more than Wiel to tie, nor two more to lead the team. What an amazing month plus for Rooker. Not certain what it says about the rest of the lineup?
  10. Hey Seth, watching the last few innings of the Twins game. Just saw that some kid named Buxton got his 3rd home run today. I know he must be one of their younger guys. Is he a good prospect? Thanks, have a great day.
  11. Its hard to believe, Seth, but another season is almost over. Are you making plans for all that extra time you are gonna have? As for pitcher of the day, I think Graterol had the best day.
  12. That's an interesting question. But difficult to answer seeing he comes from such a different background compared with high school and college kids. But considering his apparent talent, certainly should have gone high.
  13. OK, I'll provide support to Gagne. I also saw the words "great game" and thought the writer was being a bit generous. As for calling him up or already having had him pitch for the Twins, get serious. Let the young man pitch out the season at Rochester. Then we will see what the Twins feel about adding him to the roster and calling him up. Personally, I think his future is bright and would do so...even if he doesn't pitch more than a couple innings out of the pen. Has anyone noticed that Javier is hitting just under .400 in August with the month/season nearly over? This kid isn't going to be special, he already is!
  14. In the real world, when could Rooker get to the Twins? Is next September likely? Sooner?
  15. After only a handful of games in the DSL last year, Javier has done everything one could hope for as an 18 year old in Elizabethton. Started slow and has been on fire for the last half of their season. With Javier and Lewis working their way up towards the Twins, certainly one should be that big time shortstop they have needed. Question is which one and where does the other go? And this Baddoo kid also seems like an interesting prospect.
  16. Wasn't Perkins supposed to pitch back-to-back games last night and today? Is this a setback? It looks like Rooker is on track to lead the Miracle with the most home runs. Not bad considering he will be with them only a little over a month. Don't know what that tells us about the rest of the Miracle lineup?
  17. Had you selected Booker as your hitter of the day, Seth, you would have had a Beeker & Booker day!
  18. Did we ever find out what the future considerations were, in addition to Watson, in the Kinzler trade? Nice first AAA start for Gonsalves. What do you think the odds are, Seth, of his getting added to the 40-man after Sept. 1 and called up? Or if he does well the next 3 times out, could they add him on August 31 to be eligible for post season? Is it less than 50-50 that Stewart gets added to the 40-man in November? Put me on record saying he will not (I've been wrong before).
  19. Got a feeling you may not see Santiago starting for the Red Wings tonight. Odds are good he will be activated to fill Mejia's spot. Big question will be whether Santiago or Gee gets the start Sunday in Detroit?
  20. I was wondering the same thing. The 7 strikeouts matches Barnes but he pitched 5.0 innings, not the 5.1 indicated. But Littell pitched 5.2, so neither were 5.1. I know Barnes isn't a hard throwing lefty. But he has had a wonderful start to his professional career. Could the Twins get a little lucky for a change?
  21. Are things really looking good for the Twins a year or two out, Seth? With all these great results, there has to be a couple of better than average relievers for late 2018 or 2019...doesn't there? What is going to be really interesting is seeing how the new guys manage this year's Rule 5. I can't see them keeping more than 23 pitchers on the 40-man come November. And I count seven starters that are either on the 40-man or should be strong candidates to be added (6 from Chattanooga, Jorge, Romero, Littell, Gonsalves, Stewart and Rodriguez, plus Thorpe). Adding all of them would leave only 16 other spots...so I can't see that happening. It should be interesting seeing how they operate come November.
  22. Also a great night from Lewis Thorpe. Really good to see him getting back to the pitcher he was before missing over two years. Thought Seth's recent piece about the Rule 5 was interesting. I count 6 pitchers at Chattanooga (Romero, Jorge, Gonsalves, Stewart, Rodriguez and Littell) who all need to be protected. Add Thorpe and you have 7. With the Twins able to have at the most 23 pitchers on their 40-man, there is no way you can have 7 who are all starters at AA or A+. Gonna be real interesting to see who makes the cut and how these new guys handle this.
  23. You had me pulling my hair out this morning, Seth. And there is a lot less than you would remember. I know Slegers was eligible for the Rule 5 last year. Yet, you mentioned in your article that he was drafted in 2014. That would mean he wouldn't be eligible until this year. Went back and double checked, he was drafted in 2013! Have a good one, Seth. And thanks for all you do for us old minor league guys.
  24. twinstalker raises an interesting question, Seth. With the new guys in charge, have you heard any talk of them making any changes in where the minor league teams are or what leagues they are in? Any talk of adding a short season Class A team? Hadn't thought about this until reading the above comment. Have you?
  25. Gonna be some tough decisions, Seth. Based on the past, we can expect anywhere from 5-8 adds. Personally, I would add Thorpe and not add Diaz. After that, maybe one or two more from your second group. I will not be surprised if they don't add Stewart. If that happens, would make sense to move him before November.
