  1. I still believe his problems can be directly linked to his workload in the first half of :015 and 2016. I have a longer breakdown somewhere, but the gist is that in a two month period in 2015 Pressly appeared in 27 games and then went on the DL. In the first 86 team games of 2016, he appeared in 44. And then after that just 28 out of the final 76, because he just wasn't the same. I don't know if he is actually injured or if Molitor literally used all the bullets Pressly had. But, yeah, Pressly has been overworked beyond any reasonable usage, two years in a row. And now, I fear, he and the Twins are seeing the consequences.
  2. The problem is that none of the lefty relievers the Twins have on the roster have demonstrated ability to get RHB out. This year, Roger's numbers LOOK about the same in terms of OPS, but I think that was just a matter of the HR he gave up to Hosmer a week ago. Rogers only gave up 1 HR to a LHB last year in nearly 100 AB.
  3. Wilk wouldn't be eligible until 10 days after he was sent down. So, end of next week at the earliest.
  4. Probably not a good idea to use ERA to judge middle relievers. Inherited runner data is good, and another good one is first batter faced. Middle relievers often come in with runners on. And any runners they leave on, might get stranded by the guy who comes in next. So, relievers really need to be judged by the results of the batters they face. Breslow is doing poorly in that regard, particularly against LHP, which is usually what the first batter he will see is going to be.
  5. Because he's a loogy that isn't getting lefties out. .310 obp. Not good. What's sad is that a .310 obp vs lefties represents a marked improvement over his previous 3-4 seasons. Which begs the question: Why sign the guy?
  6. I was thinking Carl Willis. As in the famous quote "He'll take the ball". I seriously wonder if he was really "hurt" all this time or essentially just waiting in the wings for an opportunity to pitch. He was sent to AA, made one 3 IP start which went well and started tonight for the Red Wings. 5 2/3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 8 K. Only 88 pitches. Like I said, I don't know how effective he might be at the MLB level, but I suspect he would throw strikes, work fast and eat innings. Qualities one might seek in a long man/mop up reliever.
  7. Assuming he isn't, in fact, injured.
  8. Chris Gimenez needed only 15 pitches to retire the Astros in the 9th. Yeah, he gave up a bomb, but let's not dwell. The only innings where Twins pitchers threw fewer pitches than that today were the 2nd (14), 5th (12) and 6th (11).
  9. Yeah. Mejia could beat him to it.
  10. The ultimate question is why trade for Neshek when a guy with a quirky delivery is wasting the best year of his life in AAA.
  11. Wimmers has allowed 4 HR to AAA hitters in 16 IP. Didn't the Twins just send down a gopher ball artist?
  12. What if Pressly doesn't get back on track? What if, as is actually quite likely, he's hurt? What if Breslow can't stop walking left handed batters? He used to allow them to get hits, now he just walks them. It's still resulted in a .300 obp vs LHP. That's not good for someone who is supposed to be a lefty-one-OUT-guy. Duffey got hammered today. What if he can't physically handle the workload? Rogers is on pace to work 90 games. What if he breaks down? Kintzler already has blown two saves. And since he can't strike hitters out when he needs it, walks a tight rope whenever he pitches. This bullpen isn't in nearly as good of condition as you think it is.
  13. I wouldn't read much into it yet. They still could DFA Rucinski or Tepesch. They could also put Hughes on 60 day DL. I have heard not word one about his prognosis.
  14. It never rains in southern California...
  15. Do you see how one or two arms makes a dent into the garbage pit that passes for a relief corp?
  16. The only eligible pitcher in AAA on the 40 man is Tepesch. So, there is either another 40 man move coming, or someone from AA is. Or Tepesch is. I can't imagine why Tepesch would get another shot.
  17. Yohan Pino is an intriguing guy too. Not sure if he would be bullpen material or possibly a starter to take Gibson's spot. But, he's been around the block a couple hundred times. He could be a potential stopgap until prospects get healthy and/or ready.
  18. Pressly, Belisle and Wheeler out. Busenitz, Hildenberger and Turley in. See what happens. If it doesn't help in 3 weeks, try something else. Doing nothing is the incorrect play.
  19. Tonkin is still down in AAA. Yohan Pino just got bumped up to AAA. Although, I believe he is slated to start tonight. If the Twins don't want to bring up Hildenberger or Busenitz, there are "veteran" choices.
  20. I would say that is extremely likely. There just has not been any medical evidence of it so far. But would you not agree that the overuse at the very least contributed to any likely injury he has?
  21. Guess I should have specified. I meant overuse the last two years. Particularly first half of the season. 2015: The stats show he made 27 first half appearances. Doesn't sound like that many for the first half, right? Dig deeper. His first appearance was May 3rd. Before that he made 7 in AAA. His last was July 4th. After that he was on the DL. So, that's 27 appearances in 62 days. 17, you read that right, SEVENTEEN, were on 0 or 1 day of rest. In two months. 2016: Pressly made 44 appearances before the All Star Break last year. As I recall, that was at or near the most in MLB. Those 44 appearances came in the team's first 86 games. 13 times on 0 days of rest. 17 times on 1 day. That's BEFORE the break. He did not pitch after getting pummeled the Friday before the break. It was merely foreshadowing. Prior to the break, including his last outing, he had posted a .686 OPS. After, it was .781. But he also had his workload severely reduced. He appeared in just 28 of the team's final 74 games (actually final 76 if you include the last two days before the Break). Keep in mind, this team was eliminated in like May last year. There was no reason to overuse anybody. Would it really have mattered if the Twins had lost 5-10 more games last year and maybe used Pressly in a few less of them? There are similar numbers for Tonkin and May. Pressly's are the most egregious though. Yes, Pressly has been badly overworked. By a bad bullpen manager.
  22. Two outfield errors today. And neither by Grossman. Looks like they mailed it in with this pitching staff.
  23. 10 extra base hits in 18 IP. 5 HR. That's two months of bad with a couple bright spots. IMO, it's the direct result of being overused and abused by the guy with the 4 on his jersey.
  24. I had no problem with him being the emergency call up. But why he wasn't sent down after last night is perplexing to say the least.
  25. I wonder when the last time Wheeler pitched on consecutive days was.
