  1. I'd expect at least 3-4 weeks before Ervin could be back. A lot could change with the Twins rotation in the meantime. I don't think we need to worry about the idea of a 6-man rotation.
  2. I'll be traveling today, so I would greatly appreciate if someone could post the lineups later, if I'm unable to at a reasonable time.
  3. Feliz cumpleaños Jose Berrios! Jose Berrios was born (only) 24 years ago today in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. You might be curious, as I was, to know how Puerto Ricans celebrate birthdays. Well, it’s pretty easy to explain, because they celebrate much in the same way Americans do. Except, in Puerto Rico the legal drinking age is 18. Jose Berrios will be starting today’s game and hopefully the Twins can help get him a ‘W’ for his birthday. Series Recap: The Mariners (31-20, 2nd in AL West) are hosting the Twins (21-26, 2nd in AL Central) for game 3 of a 3-game series. The Twins dropped the first two games of the series to the Mariners, each 1-run losses. In 1-run games, the Twins are 3-10 and the Mariners are 15-8, most wins in the MLB. Today, look for the Twins to try and get to Leake early and often. Note: After crashing into the wall, harder than your Uncle crashed your wedding, Byron Buxton is day to day and no corresponding roster moves have been made. Since I’m writing the game thread, Riverbrian, our game thread virtuoso, can be lazy today. Or maybe he’ll find something better to do with his time? What’s there to do today in the Twin Cities and surrounding area? 1. Things Riverbrian can do today instead of writing a game thread Check out the Sportsology exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Want to pull a hamstring trying to run faster than a T-rex? Want to show off to little kids by jumping and touching a basketball 8.5 feet off the ground? Or my favorite, the motion lab shows you in slow-motion how truly bad your throwing mechanics actually are. They should have included a speed gun to see if I can still throw a whopping 75 mph.Book Club. No, I really don’t want to hear what you think about Fifty Shades Freed. No, I’m not talking about the new movie starring Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda, either. Check out the new Book Club restaurant on Penn Ave in Minneapolis, with food by Asher Miller (former chef of 20.21 restaurant at the Walker Art Center).Go see a floating concert. While you could perhaps make any concert a floating concert by inebriating yourself, head out to Lake Winona at 4pm to watch Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers perform on a floating stage. I’m guessing that jet skis are discouraged. 5-to-1 odds that there’s a major instrument or electrical malfunction in the 95-degree heat. 25-to-1 odds that a musician falls into the lake.Disclaimer: The activities/events mentioned are in the Twins Cities and greater Minnesota, and do not necessarily reflect the current whereabouts or residence of Riverbrian. 2. OBP (One Bad Pun) Last month after the April Blizzard my car hit a big pothole. It bent the hubcap on one of my rear wheels and even managed to crack the tailpipe. I had Discount Tire fix my tire and they did a great job. I decided to replace the tailpipe myself, but that was a terrible idea because it was way too exhausting. 5. Magic 8-Ball (2018 Prediction Rate: 1-0) Shake 1: “Better not tell you now” (how about I go find my hammer?) Shake 2: “It is certain” Shake 3: “Most likely” My Magic 8-ball says… Twins win today. --------------------------------- Lineups: Twins Lineup: TBA P. Jose Berrios (RHP) Mariners Lineup: TBA P. 4. I was wondering the same thing. And any wall-banging worries me as he had a concussion in the AFL last year (only 6 months ago).
  5. Wow I wish I had not listened to that National Anthem. Who put the mic in front of the kid with no pitch who didn't know the words?
  6. It's definitely one of the Stranger Things I've seen. I think LoMo should come up to bat leading off with one of these:
  7. A lot (or at least several) teams lately have been trying it to get power hitters out of a funk and to stop worrying about driving in all those runs and hitting the ball a mile. The latest examples I can think of off the top of my head are Rizzo and Harper.
  8. Regarding superstitions, if I'm at work and the Twins are batting with runners on, I will not peak at the Gameday because at least I get hopeful of balls in play when Provus and Gladden announcing. Seeing "in play, out(s)" is deflating. Then, vise-versa when the other team is batting.
  9. The play was a check swing on 3-2 with the running going. The Twins threw out the runner who stopped running. The home plate umpire appealed to the first base umpire who called it a swing and thus strikeout. Toronto's manager seemed to be upset that the umpire appealed and left the runner in limbo as to whether the play was life. Diaz (the runner) appeared as if he thought it was a walk.
  10. Well, this is uninspiring (regarding Petit) but probably the appropriate move here if you look at the Red Wings roster. I think the bigger news here is that Gonsalves should now be able to stick in the AAA rotation, which is where he belongs (at least until a potential call up).
  11. Here's my fair warning: Something's been off with Luis Castillo so far this year, but he was really good down the stretch last year and has really good stuff (Upper 90's FB with lots of sink, and decent strikeout stuff). I'd easily take him over Hughes tonight. Mahle starting Sunday for the Reds is also underrated. Votto is heating up lately, Suarez just came back from the DL. The Reds have Billy Hamiton roaming CF and the Twins are missing Buxton. I hate to be so pessimistic, but I'm not terribly optimistic about the Twins in this series against a 5-20 team. I honestly predict that the Twins will lose 2 of 3.
  12. Magic 8-Ball (2018 Prediction Rate: 1-0)
  13. I'd presume this is a product of him going after a lot of high pitches.
  14. Stay hot Eduardo Escobar.
  15. Another roster move: WCCO radio said that the Twins claimed David Hale from the Yankees, to take Kinley's spot. Note: I'm unsure what that means for Slegers at the moment.
  16. I can thank Riverbrian for any formatting inspiration. Trying to keep things familiar with a few personal touches. Go Twins!
  17. Welcome to my first dabble into game threads! I would have volunteered to write more game threads this year, but we’ve been busy growing our family. Baby # 3 was born on April 10th. My relatives say that we should have enough kids to field an entire baseball team. I think we should have named baby # 3 Shohei so that we only need to have 9 kids. Series Recap: The Yankees (14-9, 2nd in AL East) are hosting the Twins (8-11, 3rd in AL Central) for game 4 of a 4-game series. The Yankees have taken the first three games of the series and outscored the Twins 29 to 8. The Yankees have won 5 straight, while the Twins have lost 6 straight. The Twins are playing like the ‘best’ team in the South Park Little League. That is, they seem to be finding every way to lose so they can be done with baseball and go play with their friends for the rest of the summer. Maybe we need a Bat Dad. Maybe we need a brawl to liven things up. Maybe the Twins need to sign or call up somebody like Kelly Leak (the motorcycle kid) in Bad News Bears. Since I’m writing the game thread, you may be wondering what happened to our game thread expert and aficionado, Riverbrian. Well, I’m glad you asked… 1. Things Riverbrian can do today instead of writing a game thread The Mn Twins. No, not the MN Twins. The Mn Twins. For a bonus thrill, try eating at Chipotle before visiting. 18. Kepler is soon approaching the often-mentioned benchmark of 1000 major league at bats. The key for me with Kepler is always going to be walks and strikeouts. He put up pretty decent numbers in the minors (0.68 BB/K). His early return this year of 8 walks and 4 K's is promising so far. I still feel he will turn into an exceptional and hopefully long-tenured Twin.
  19. It should hopefully just be 10 days, and the Twins have been relatively healthy in the early-going, compared to what I'm observing for many other teams. I'm not concerned here.
  20. This is going to depend entirely on the individual perspectives of the voters. Voter A thinks Mauer spent initial part and majority of his career as a catcher, thus classifies him as a catcher. Definitely yes for HOF. Voter B thinks Mauer finished too many years as a first basemen, classifying him as a first basemen conservatively. Definitely no for HOF. Voter C takes a totally analytical and mathematical approach, proportioning Mauer's career totals according to number of games played at each position. This approach disregards Mauer's specific WAR while at catcher, and proportions it. (e.g. two thirds career WAR for catcher, one third at 1B). Likely a no for HOF. Seems unfair but Mauer has an unprecedented situation here. I think Voter A has the correct approach, and thus I think Mauer should be in the HOF regardless at this point. But I think there will be enough alternative viewpoints that he won't get the call.
  21. Your desk it too organized.
  22. Yeah I'm subscribed. I'm getting it to work through my phone right now (though eating up my data I'm sure). I still can't get it to work on my computer. It's acting like I'm trying to watch video. I sent in a help ticket.
  23. If you select 'Feed' it shows the exit velocity.
  24. I only have the Gameday Audio, and when I click the headphones, I get "The account you're using is not entitled to view this content. Please select "Subscribe" to subscribe or upgrade your account." I'm about to lose my mind.
