  1. Ok, time to take a break from eating glue paste and crayons... (Hmmm, maybe that's why I keep getting them taken away). Thanks Tom, I really appreciate one more topic to really get my neurotic synapses firing full bore... It's an intriguing thought, but I would concur with many and hope they pull the plug on the bathwater bank and let the water/money flow to Darvish. Lynn and Cobb could be great additions, and it is conceivable that they could both be landed and brought into the fold. But I can't help but feel that Darvish would be the statement the Twins need to make. Will they? I have no earthly clue, but I can hope and dream. And Archer....???? Unless you want to see a recreation of a really bad 70's prison movie shower scene where the "new guy" is played by Twins prospects given up in sacrifice, let us speak of this no more
  2. Great write up Tom. I really love it especially since those are almost the exact same thing I tell my son on a daily basis. Of course he only "listens" when he hears it from Tim Hyers, the Red Sox hitting coach... sigh
  3. Can't say I really have a "problem" with most of those proposed additions with the one exception being players talking to the pitcher or "visiting" the mound. That has been a part of the game since it's inception and IMHO should be left alone. I would agree that the hitter constantly stepping out of the batters box to adjust every part of his uniform imaginable is mind numbingly irritating, but to me a huge part of that starts with the umpire. Don't give the player Carte Blanc to step out all willy nilly. Actually hold his feet to the proverbial fire. If the hitter keeps stepping out, let the pitcher throw a free strike. That would keep them honest.
  4. Very well thought out list. I do like the Wade comparison to Granite, and would probably have to agree. Similar type of player, but different strengths.
  5. Very excellent point Tom. I'd also have to add though, that (at least to me) some parts of it seem to be mental. Almost as if he's expending so much energy and thought on improving his offensive efficiency, that is has pulled some from his defense. I don't think it's the be all end all, but I can't help but feel that it is playing perhaps a small part.
  6. Very good point and won't disagree with you at all. Just concerned that the price might be too high.
  7. Well said, I'd have to agree good Sir.
  8. I look at Archer and the rays and the only thing that I can even remotely picture is at best a Pyrrhic victory. For those that are in a bromance love with his contract and potential, that's fine, I totally can comprehend that view point. But... the cost. I truly feel that he would come at more of a cost than the franchise could bear right now. I was taught a saying many moons ago when I entered my chosen profession... You can never miss fast enough to win a gunfight. Trading for Archer (just to make a trade in effect) would make waves in the media world, and the talking heads would gush and wake prosaic about the pluses and minuses of the deal, and many would feel a sense of vindication for the aggressive posturing of the FO, but... would it truly be worth it. If Falvine "go big" and make the splash, the glut of prospects it would take leaves the franchise with little potential for future growth or replacement of the current "core" players. Maybe this is the direction they might wish to go, but I seriously have my doubts. Our beloved Twins would bleed mightily to gain this ground. Once again I can only sit, wait and watch and be glad that the folks actually running the show are smarter and know way more about the game than I do.
  9. With some...yes, but the charity happens a lot more than most realize. For example, I happen to know from personal experience that Adam Wainwright put several million of his own dollars to build a new baseball complex in his home town for his old High School and the county (it's actually a heck of a nice set up and my son and his teammates absolutely love it).
  10. He 50% catcher, 50% Gym Rat, 50% Mountain Man! That's 150%!!! HE'S HUGE!!!!
  11. You’re all good. Just having some fun and keeping it light
  12. So I’m guessing you’re not much of a fan of this signing and you disapprove a many fans exuberance (and puppies). Give the Governor a Harummph!! And get off my lawn!!!
  13. I think I have to agree with that one Steve. I've always felt Archer has great "stuff", but... he's been in the league long enough now that you would think he would/could be better than the stats he's put up. Something just doesn't add up when you compare ability with performance. To me, IMHO, he's more of a thrower and less of a pitcher. Sure he gets a ton of K's, and that's sexy to a certain point but, K's (like homeruns) are boring and fascist. Now I'm not saying that they're not important, but they're not the be all end all / Alpha and Omega. Plus, the perceived price for Archer to me just seems like, well... even if he did do well for the Twins, I have a feeling in my gut that it would wind up being a Pyrrhic Victory for the FO.
  14. Aye, that would be true Good Sir.
  15. My question for many of the folks who say Gonsalves only has 4-5 range "stuff and potential"... have any of you seen him pitch or looked at his track record through the minors? There is a reason that he's one of the top rated LH starting prospects by MLB. I'm not saying he (or Romero) are untouchable, but... seriously?? He has potential, the kind you don't lightly give away. I get the whole shiny, new toy syndrome or the allure of selling your cow for some "magic" beans, I do (I also really despise the Yankees and the SEC/Alabama... but that's another story and rant), but at a certain times you have to stand back and trust some of the cards you have in your hand.
  16. Huzzah I say!! Huzzah!
  17. I may be totally off base on this one, buuuut... I thought I read it on MLB.com (possibly ESPN).
  18. As far as I can understand it, they can use money from next year's pool towards any of the Braves players signed this year.
  19. Nice find Seth. Huge fanboy of Granite ever since I saw him playing for Chattanooga, absolute grinder and fun to watch play.
  20. For me, in the end, I would have to vote my conscience and my heart. If I had a ballot, I would vote Johan in simply on talent alone. Would a longer career and larger sample size of numbers help make the case stronger? Absolutely. But since injuries cut him down in his prime, I would vote what my heart tells me, and that is that he should at least be on my ballet. The rest I would leave up to the other voters consciences and the Good Lord's will.
  21. Just to play devils advocate, and because I like to cause hate and discontent (AKA I’m a really salty, dysfunctional vet) I’m going to say the Twins have a chance to sign him. Note, I say a chance... nothing more. BTW, Cool story bro. P.S. I’m thinking that I should really stop having a few adult beverages and then posting.
  22. Well then Good Sir, I must beg to differ and ask that we agree to disagree.
