  1. Going to have to disagree on part of this one Mike. I won’t disagree that Hildy was having issues with his control and that he was really struggling. However, just because a pitcher throws sidearm, does not mean that it’s a “gimmick”. At the end of the day, if it works... it works. I do t care who you are or how you throw, if you leave the ball over the plate (which he was doing with alarming regularity last year) it’s going to get crushed at any level.
  2. Happy Thanksgiving Seth. Ok, of the remaining FA pitchers, who do you think/believe will ultimately sign and help bring our boys to the promised land? Also, who is your favorite Dark Horse rookie/prospect to this year's Arraez?
  3. Ouch... that's a little harsh Steve . But on a more serious note. I would feel fine if the Twins brought him back. If he happens to find greener pastures elsewhere, then so be it and I wish Gibby nothing but the best for him and his family. It's been awesome watching him in a Twins uni.
  4. Overall, that's a nice footprint for the coming season. I just don't know if Colorado would pull the trigger for that offer.
  5. You know... I think it’s more of an old school purist approach. The fact that the tech is still in its developmental infancy doesn’t help any though. I just read a post by (Platoon I think?) that spoke of problems with NFL replays and folks still can’t agree on those either, and I felt it was a good point. The human factor of baseball is one of the things that make baseball... baseball. I love it and I feel that most of us do as well. If we didn’t have the ability to argue and fret over “bad” calls, what else would we talk about during the off-season . But on a more serious note, I genuinely feel that Robo umps are not going to the great Industrial Revolution that many proponents feel that it will be. In the end all it will do is direct their angst in a new direction.
  6. No, just no. Perhaps someday, many, many years down road... maybe. Now? With the technology where it is? Absolutely not. I was talking with my son the other night about this exact same thing (he's a HS pitcher who is phenomenal at hitting his spots) and even he completely despised the idea of it. I get it that it may be coming to baseball, but it doesn't mean that it isn't a bad idea.
  7. If a coach, college or pro, has to "boss around" a player... he's already lost and probably shouldn't be a coach anyway. A good coach at any level gets buy-in from his players and makes them want to follow what he shows and teaches them. That is the definition of leadership.
  8. Travis, Thanks so much for taking the time to write about baseball and your experiences with it. We loved watching you guys play whenever you came to Jacksonville, and I think you even signed a couple of baseballs for my son as well (as a Twins fan in South Georgia you don’t get to interact much with Twins players ). My son is a Sophomore pitcher and outfielder in HS right now and I’ve thoroughly corrupted him and turned him into a huge Twins fan. As with all the players who take a minute for fans, just wanted to say TY for taking a moment to make his day back then. So best of luck to you In your future and God Bless. SKOL!!!
  9. Bauer is a terrible human being. I'm a little curious at how you came to this conclusion? As that is an especially damming statement.
  10. Then we agree to disagree. But don’t feel bad about being wrong, I still like you .
  11. I’m going to have to go with Nick on this one. I won’t deny that severino has talent, he does and (when healthy) has the makings of a quality arm. However, Dobnak has more talent and better “stuff” than many give him credit for. At most, this is a push and right now has the benefit of a full season and a hot hand under his belt.
  12. I think you might mean Dish? I have DirecTV and it does include MLB.
  13. I’ve had MLB for years, and living in the Southeast I don’t have to worry about blackout restrictions (unless the Twins are playing the Braves). This doesn’t mean that I don’t feel for everyone though. Having attended the Univ. of Washington, I love to watch my Huskies play... however with the formation of the PAC 12 Network (OMG... I just threw up in my mouth saying that) and the fact that almost no one carries it, I miss out on a ton of games. So feel everyone’s pain on some level.
  14. Well said Tom. Even MLB.com has been very bullish on the Pinstripes. The one exception I saw was Billy Ripken picking the Heroes over the Villains (Go Billy!). But seriously, like you said, even this season’s games are a poor barometer for what to expect as both teams have evolved a lot even during the season.
  15. Nice write up Nick. Thanks as always. Also Kieth Law only confirmed what I’ve felt all along... he gets a way too high opinion of his own prognostications. He has a decent eye for baseball (most of the time), but others...? I suppose we should be thankful that windbag Todd McShay doesn’t cover baseball.
  16. Think that is testament to just how good of a throw that was.
  17. Great job Tom. I think you're on to something there with the new content and leverage index. Appreciate all the hard work and time you bestow upon TD.
  18. I'd have to concur with Nash on this one. Cleveland is playing tough right now, but, the only realistic way they take the Central is sweeping the Twins head to head (and even then it is not guaranteed at this point). 2 of 3 games only nets you one game, and 3 of 4 only nets you two games. A sweep is the only meaningful way that the second place team gains ground. Otherwise any games played head to head are a wash, and at this time a year, a second place team cannot afford that.
  19. They’ve got more of it than you’re giving them credit for.
  20. A lot of comments on here scream of angst, handwringing and soul crushing anguish. I get it, I was upset also. I don't like to see the boys loose, especially against the *ankees. But... my son and I were talking about the 1st game of the series last night on the way home from his workout with a pitching coach and he looks at me and says, "Hey Dad, you were pretty worked up about some of the plays. It's ok... it's just baseball. These things happen." I smiled, laughed, and told him that he was right of course, but the he was never allowed to say anything positive, or complimentary... ever, about the *ankees in public again or, no matter how good at baseball he is, I will sell him to the highest bidder (just kidding, my wife would kill me and I'm actually a little bid afraid of her). But seriously, I had to laugh and admit he as right. Kid has a good head on his shoulders.
  21. You are correct, that was bad luck. However, players are taught to freeze on hard liners though the infield for just that reason. My son’s high school coach looses his mind when they make mental errors like those (and in case anyone might question, he played professionally has won multiple State Titles and was the National HS Coach of the Year in 2018).
