  1. We're #7!!!! Two drafts: Rule 5 and this one. In Rule 5, they traded down from 1 to 7 for nothing. In this on, they draft BA's # 7 prospect. Must be someone's lucky number. Obviously, taken in isolation, this is a huge disappointment. I thought the second half would be that Lewis settled for the least money among the top contenders. But, when I heard Boras was the agent... Wouldn't they have reached an agreement in principal BEFORE drafting this guy?
  2. And at the bottom are the Texas Rangers, which is where we started.
  3. I sincerely believe that 1B and "long reliever" are the two easiest positions to fill. After '18, there should be a plethora of candidates to replace Joe when one considers all potential corner OF, C, 1B and 3B currently at least 23 years old in the farm system. And maybe there's Joe himself at a "new and improved price".
  4. As the initiator of this "topic", I tried to start was far away from "Dozier to the Dodgers," but the perceived wisdom keeps ending up back there.
  5. While awaiting late starting games, I revisited the "idea" of trading Brian Dozier. I began by asking which teams were not out of contention and had a 2B "significantly" poorer than Dozier. That led me to three teams: Bosox, Indians and Rangers. I found no NL teams that met both criteria. I immediately excluded in-division Cleveland. I then looked at the Bosox's cupboard of potential prospects and found it pretty much bare. That left the Rangers. And, lo and behold, they have three top-tier left-handed starting pitching prospects: Y. Mendez (#2) B. Martin (#5), and C. Ragans (#8) Surely, they could part with one of three. Just sayin'
  6. Kyle Wright's last start was 6/3 in the SEC tournament. His next start (assuming the Commodores stick with their rotation) will be shown on either ESPN2 (8 pm CDT Friday) or ESPN (8 pm Saturday) versus Oregon State.
  7. Now, this year, they're linked to BA's 3rd-ranked prospect. And yet, we're wondering why they're not linked to more than just this one "top 30" prospect. (A whole bunch of teams are linked to none, right?) I'd submit that this link to "only one" has nothing to do with an intentional plan to forego the highest-quality prospects this year and instead bargain-shop, as so many suspect. I just think their list looks different than BA's. Yes, Birdwatcher, it appears the Texas Rangers are linked to several Top 30 IFA's.
  8. "His repertoire also includes a cutter, slider, curveball and changeup." If you have five pitches, you really have zero.
  9. Thank you for doing this. I am hoping they will underpay 1:1 enough so they can get better than the 33rd or 29th best prospect with 1:35. On a different note, what happened to JJ Schwarz (no "t"). 12 months ago, I had him as the Twins' 1:1 this year.
  10. I noticed that Nick Gordon was charged with his tenth error on the season. Is that a reason to be concerned?
  11. Infield fly, and the umpire calls an infield fly. The ball drops and a runner advances a base (which he does "at his own risk"). How do you score this, and how do you annotate it?
  12. How does Diaz physically compare to Sano and Vargas? Thanks
  13. Of course Perkins will return-- monthly. To pick up his check
  14. 33rd round, 19th, 50th. I guess we use our higher draft picks on mediocre relievers. Thank you for doing this, Seth. Is anyone on this list better than a 4th starter?
  15. Fastest Pitch? Well that would be Sidd Finch 168 miles an hour. Unless George Plimpton was kidding.
  16. I doubt Sam Carlson will be available at 37.
  17. Pat Neshek 36 year old currently with the worst team in the Bigs ( 17 win Phillies). Low cost. One year patch.
  18. I apologize for my depression, but might it be possible to create a 25 man roster of Twins' minor leaguers made up exclusively of IR / Tommy John / DL?
  19. So, the Astros signed Carlos Correia because he was "cheap"? And now we have Byron. I concur that one area of strength in the minors is middle infielders. Might there be three potential starting pitchers (and NOT "relievers who "project" to be starters"") at 1, 35 and 37?
  20. After reading about Palka, and following other top prospects, perhaps Twins Daily should change their name to: "Unfortunately, he is now on the DL "
  21. I must admit that for a brief shining moment, I hoped against hope that my logical brain which bought into a magical season despite Vegas' 74 win prediction. My logical brain (along with http://www.startribune.com/derek-falvey-twins-need-to-stay-committed-to-winning-eventually-not-settling-for-quick-fixes/425435653/?ref=nl&om_rid=1660923337&om_mid=46145993) knew that the winning record was based on duct tape and rain that allowed for only three starters. It was fun. It is every baseball's fan to dream. Four losses and a long west coast road trip. No days off so the Twins will actually have to field five starting pitchers. The Twins' "top" three pitchers regressing to the mean. Buxton hitting under .200 for the month and Sano-- well, you tell me. So, Plan A it is-- let the young players mature and let the FO "evaluate". Draft day and wonderful weather in September-- and the game itself. It was fun.
  22. Thank you for this. But, can't we wait until, say October 2018 when Bux is still only 24?
  23. " There, honestly, are guys outside my current Top 40 that will play in the big leagues." Thanks, Seth; Could you simply list those outside the Top 40 (without ranking)as "honorable mentions"?
  24. Just as every cloud has a silver lining, in this case, every silver lining (that the Twins are 10-15 games better than expected) has a cloud. The proverbial cloud is that the "plan" to use 2017 as a year to evaluate, gain experience and lose fewer than 100 games has been upset. Sure, the temptation might be there to strike while the AL Central is down, but trading prospects is very short sighted. Besides, by most metrics, say the Top 100, the Twins really don't have that many to trade. Sure, give Wheeler and / or Hurlbut chances. There is no real cost to "bringing them up too early". But as for light at the end of the tunnel, there are three at AAA, at least one in A plus (if they go college pitcher at 1:1, 1:35 and / or 2:1, there could be a few arms by 2019. However, and I've written this many times, in 2019, the Twins' payroll will be ridiculously small, so there will be not excuse to NOT sign two $30 million / year starters.
