  1. The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor at about the 70 minute mark of the movie "Animal House." Its a famous John Belushi quote.
  2. I asked the same question-- apparently its 2017 money and (also apparently) there are a couple of 15 year olds (yes, 15 year olds) who will soon turn 16 that the Twins are interested in.
  3. Can we all remember that the beginning-of-the-season O/U wins total was 74? That they will easily meet that expectation while strengthening their minor league system through the draft, trades and international signings, means that the Twins' season must be considered a modest success. Goals for the remainder of the season should include: 1. using the "found" half-million wisely, 2. Trying out as many minor-leaguers as possible, and, most importantly, 3. Finishing their one-year "top to bottom review" of the organization.
  4. A question: Is the $500K in International Money for 2017 or 2018?
  5. If: 1. The Twins ae going nowhere this year, and 2. Kinzler will re-sign with the Twins after the season, then What ever we get will be a bonus. But, yes, it would be nice to get at least a B prospect. Complete speculation, but per MLB's top prospects page, 4 of the Nationals' top 25 are catchers.
  6. Bit of a road block for middle infielders (including 3B) at the majors, AAA and AA.Escobar, Adrianza, Polanco with many top prospects also playing these positions. I could see one or more of these traded.
  7. So, if Dozier is traded and Polanco doesn't improve, what does the 2018 opening day infield look like? And, apologies for sounding like a broken record, but if Slegers gets a shot, why not Hurlbut? His Quality Start % isn't bad.
  8. And so the book closes on two moves: Hicks for a fringy reliever and the first overall pick in the Rule 5 draft for, well, nothing, as the pick was first traded (for nothing) and the player eventually selected was returned. And posters want this front office to make MORE deals?
  9. Actually, these days SS's ARE expected to hit. And, its only OUR CF's who aren't expected to hit.
  10. But only, what, 13 of them have overall ranks of 50 or better.
  11. Thank you for the thoughtful article. IMHO, the article might be better titled "September Call-ups" or "Spring Training 2018".
  12. I concur: why the hate on Hurlbut? I agree he's not the next Cy Young, but couldn't he be given a chance?
  13. And while the Twins play teams like the Yankees, Astros and Dodgers, the Indians play-- are you ready for this?-- Jays, A's, Giants, Angels and White Sox. So, by the trading deadline, it is not inconceivable that the Twins would fall six more games back. I do enjoy the discussion, but, like other posters, I'm afraid it will prove moot by the deadline. My best guess? Minor sellers-- more likely in late August with playoff bound teams looking for minor pieces. These pieces would probably have little trouble clearing waivers.
  14. Per the Strib, there are still 3 unsigned Top 20 rounds Twins' draft picks. Any money left for them? Will they be signed?
  15. Melville' night is even more impressive when one looks at the Pawsox's lineup which started with four major leaguers.
  16. Any news or updates on when we may see debuts from Enlow and Leach? And what can we expect in terms of pitch counts and or innings limits?
  17. As I write this, the Twins have lost two straight series. There are 19 games before the trade deadline gets serious on July 27th. Of the six series, there are three were the Twins will be competitive (Orioles, Angels and Tigers) but three where they won't (Astros, Dodgers and Yankees). My "guess" is that the Twins will win maybe 7 or 8 of these games and will be roughly six games out of first. And about the same out of the Wild Card. I would put up for sale: any starting pitcher not named BerriosKinzler (in whom the Nationals might be very interested)Adrianzaa catcher (Giminez's OPS isn't too far below the league average)Dozier (the Blue Jays might be interested)
  18. What's wrong with this picture: Ronny Mauricio, ss, Dominican Republic (No. 3 prospect), $2.1 million. George Valera, of, Dominican Republic (No. 5 prospect), $1.3 million Julio Rodriguez, of, Dominican Republic (No. 6 prospect), $1.75 million Jelfry Marte, ss, Dominican Republic (No. 13 prospect), $3 million.
  19. Fun Fact #1: There was a single month record set in the Majors when 1,101 home runs were hit. Fun Fact #2: All but three of these were hit off of Twins pitching. I expect Twins pitchers will top the record in July!
  20. What are reasonable MLB arrival times for the three AA pitchers? 2018? 2019? And I'd vote to replace Falvey with Thibodeau. Tom's making things happen!
  21. I am pleasantly surprised that Garver's isoOBP is around .110. By my math, that means he walks once every 9 PAs. That's great for a catcher. Is ByongoHo
