  1. What's wrong with this picture: Ronny Mauricio, ss, Dominican Republic (No. 3 prospect), $2.1 million. George Valera, of, Dominican Republic (No. 5 prospect), $1.3 million Julio Rodriguez, of, Dominican Republic (No. 6 prospect), $1.75 million Jelfry Marte, ss, Dominican Republic (No. 13 prospect), $3 million.
  2. I am pleasantly surprised that Garver's isoOBP is around .110. By my math, that means he walks once every 9 PAs. That's great for a catcher. Is ByongoHo
  3. Thank you for the thoughtful article. My question is: Assuming, for arguments' sake, they bring him up and do something with Sano, where would he play? Where would he bat? Would he take at bats away from Escobar? Polanco?
  4. These are not "advanced" stats, but basic stats. The statistics most correlated with winning are OBP and the pitching counterpart, WHIP. Their correlations are MUCH stronger than any other statistic. So, when it comes to promotions, I recommend going with these two stats.
  5. I know I now sound like a broken record, but would someone please explain to me why David Hurlbut is never in any of these discussions? I have followed every one of his starts. I am not saying he is a future #1. Nor am I saying he will be the #5 starter in the "best scenario" 2019 starting rotation, which we are debating here. But doesn't he deserve consideration to start a couple of games and maybe "eat innings"? Maybe I need one of you to explain why his "stuff" won't play in the Bigs. Again, I am not advocating for Minor League pitcher of the Year, but to start the second half of a double-header?
  6. Are there statistics on % sac bunts made? I honestly cannot remember a single one this year
  7. And Joe Mauer can't pinch hit in the 7th against a RHP? His OBP is 100 points higher that the catcher's. Can't we get any return for our $27 million?
  8. Actually, yes, we do. CANadian IN ATLanta
  9. Why is Hurlbut never mentioned as a potential fill-in back end starter?
  10. For a team that started the season with zero Top 50 prospects and only a handful in the 80-100 range, (so a pretty weak farm system), I think its an indirect indictment of the draft that maybe only one of their three top 37 picks plus their over slot 3rd rounder cracks the top 10.
  11. I'm not sure how this fits into timelines, but there won't be any baseball for the Lookouts anytime soon. This tropical storm (and the one that's following it) will wreck havoc on Lookouts, Miracle and both Rookie League teams until probably next Tuesday.
  12. The cause / effect may be reversed. Maybe he's betting on himself and has told teams he's going back for his senior year. And that has caused him to be not drafted.
  13. Congratulations to Lucas Gilbreath, LHP, Univ. of Minnesota to Colorado
  14. Ryley {sic} Ridell 6' 3" LHP. For what its worth, MLB ranked 190 and drafted at 196. Maybe all that saved money is going towards that difference of six! (and yes, I am joking). I can't argue against this as a round 7 pick.
  15. I'm sure they will try him in a corner OF-- arm projects better to LF. Don't be surprised if he end up at 1B.
  16. 29 Nick Allen SS Francis Parker School, San Diego Calif. 7 33 Blayne Enlow RHP St. Amant (La.) HS La. 1 38 Tanner Burns RHP Decatur (Ala.) HS Ala. 2 39 Brady McConnell SS Merritt Island (Fla.) HS Fla. 4 41 Tristan Beck RHP Stanford Calif. 9
  17. So, who's left? Anyone have a link to best remaining players? I am looking for even a little hope from what, so far, must be considered an unmitigated disaster. And, where would on slot these three among the current top prospects for the Twins? #5, #15 and #20?
  18. I actually read about the Canadian pitcher earlier today. Baseball Canada "hoped" he would be picked early on the second DAY, not early in the second ROUND. So, the "big plans" for 35 and 37 were to save even more money. Do we win a prize for saving the most $$$ from the signing bonus pool?
  19. Sam Carlson has been listed on MLB TV as "best available" for the last hour. Interesting to see how this plays out.
  20. I didn't mean "to sign versus not to sign" but by how much Boras will sign for under slot so that the Twins can go over slot at 35 and 37. That's the idea of picking Lewis, isn't it?
  21. And it also assumes that the Twins get a savings from Mr. Scott Boros.
  22. We're #7!!!! Two drafts: Rule 5 and this one. In Rule 5, they traded down from 1 to 7 for nothing. In this on, they draft BA's # 7 prospect. Must be someone's lucky number. Obviously, taken in isolation, this is a huge disappointment. I thought the second half would be that Lewis settled for the least money among the top contenders. But, when I heard Boras was the agent... Wouldn't they have reached an agreement in principal BEFORE drafting this guy?
  23. Kyle Wright's last start was 6/3 in the SEC tournament. His next start (assuming the Commodores stick with their rotation) will be shown on either ESPN2 (8 pm CDT Friday) or ESPN (8 pm Saturday) versus Oregon State.
