  1. The Mashers and the Tetas, hahahaha.
  2. I think Albury was moved to the Padres in 1969 as he pitched in their minor league system in '69 and '70. The Twins drafted him in the 1970 minor league draft. It's hard to maintain a modern major league career if you walk more guys than you strikeout, but he did have a winning record of 18-17, so there is that.
  3. If he didn't do anything wrong, why did he apologize to the Twins and if not for the pitch-tipping accusation, what did he apologize for? Why would opponent batters say such a thing if not true? It seemed egregious enough to Lakeland's coaches to tell our coaches. Something doesn't add up here and hopefully the MLB investigation report will tell us something.
  4. I would think SWR has the inside track at least. In his 28 starts last year, he gave up more than 3 runs only 4 times. I though he did a real good job of competing and giving the Twins a chance to win almost every time out as the team went 17-11 in games he started.
  5. Interesting point. Not sure if the knuckleball grip would put the wrong kind of pressure on his rehabbed middle finger. Makes me think the Bruce Sutter split-finger grip would hold interest for him.
  6. Vic Power was rangy, flashy and smooth playing first base. I do remember him playing far off the bag and there were times you would think he's not gonna make it to the bag in time to take a throw, but he did. He was also very intelligent and just generally talented and even was a credentialed MLB photographer later on. And best of all to a baseball loving kid, he was on my paper route.
  7. So, I send a letter from Paris inquiring about the start of spring training. His secretary says to him, "Hey, we got an inquiry from France." Derek goes and signs the guy. Putz.
  8. I wonder . . . if Reese didn't have that great '69 season, would the Twins have traded Graig Nettles?
  9. We could probably add some Oakland jokes here, but since California is literally a hot mess right now, i don't think so.
  10. Yeah, having raw sewage entering the dugouts on occasion is probably a good indicator that you need a new home.
  11. Byron's abilities might be the same, but I don't think his confidence is which hampers his performance on difficult plays. Pretty normal for a guy who has had serious run-ins with the wall out there.
  12. I find it interesting that the most similar hitter listed over at BBref is Greg Byrd, the guy Mike Ford was competing with for 1B reps with the Yankees. I have to admit I don't understand the budget freeze if you're going to sell the team. What difference does a few million make when you stand to sell the team for over $1 Billion?
  13. Carlos signed for one year and played for one year. Deal fulfilled. No comparison.
  14. The Twins should just call up and install Aaron Sabato at first base. Now, we all know he'll probably set the all-time strikeout record, but thats the point. The fans could cheer every strikeout as the count down to immortality glows on the scoreboard. Gotta find ways to enjoy your baseball.
  15. Especially if Tom wears that hat.
