  1. Ok fair point. Let me amend. By that I meant that he wasn’t expected to be a prospect and ended up being an extremely good dominant MLB pitcher. I didn’t mean it as a direct comparison stat wise. Because Wells numbers in his career are far better than Klubers and 99% of all minor leaguers frankly. From what I’ve seen his minor numbers are up there in the top 10 of all guys drafted in the last 4 years. (Grain of salt alert as I haven’t looked THAT thoroughly, just surface).
  2. Very deserving of this! What is the likelihood Wells gets a spring training invite? He’s 24 now so I think he should be moved up a bit faster and tested. God knows the Twins could use a good arm. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Tyler Wells will be the Twins Corey Kluber!
  3. I wish the Twins would give him some longer outings in games that are clearly lost. This is the time to see what he can do with a little time in the game to calm down. I think he was just so shocked to get called up it threw him for a loop!
  4. Glad to see the Twins being so benevolent. The goal of the season now is to make the new guys look like seasoned studs all in an effort to boost their self esteem. Kudos. Somebody’s gotta do it
  5. Well if Kohl threw what he did 1-5 instead of 2-6 he wouldn’t have a 4 run deficit.
  6. not a chance. And you can’t compare Oakland’s OBP moneyball to this. THAT didn’t fundamentally change everything about the history of a particular position. Eggheads need to leave baseball alone. Fans don’t like it. Pitchers don’t like it. Tampa has LESS attendance this year than the last 13 years! Fans want their Verlanders and Sherzers and in Tampa’s case, Archer. They don’t like platoons. No matter if they’re winning. In my opinion, the opener strategy is simply a move by the front office bean counters to attempt to minimize the necessity for a $20 million a year star if they can find a way to get by with a few 2-3 million dollar guys. It won’t work.
  7. This opener crap makes it where I can’t even check Stewart’s game score. Instead I have to see May’s stinkshow 18 game score. I’m telling you, fans come out to see their favorite players. And develop relationships with their favorite players. They do not want to see Joe blow come out and stink at the place up for two innings, followed by the guy they wanted to see for 4 innings, then another guy for 1 inning then lefty specialist for one inning then maybe a closer if the first guy didn’t already blow it in the first inning. Meanwhile the other side has a Chris Sale or Kluber in for 8 innings and their fans are happy. Get better pitching. And there’s no need for this stupid experiment invented by academic nerds who likely never even played the damn game.
  8. The opener sucks. Period. It ruins the game. It ruins stats. It ruins the star pitcher/fan relationship. People like to see their stars play, not a platoon. Tampa is getting lucky. It’s not the opener doing it.
  9. The Rays may be good, but there's no definitive proof its because of this "opener" BS. They are 3rd in ERA, ok so the first two ahead of them use openers too? The Rays are an anomaly, not the new moneyball. As a baseball purist, I HATE this opener crap. It ruins the decades of pitcher statistics and spirit of the game. It is however a great way for clubs to lower the worth of quality starting pitchers and make them appear more expendable because they will claim they don't need a 20 million dollar starter. Just a 2 million dollar opener, and 2- 3 million dollar long relievers. Now I have had a few cold ones, because it is Labor Day dammit, so feel free to rip me apart, but do it with love!
  10. What the hell happened to this team??? Is it JUST bad talent? Is it Molitor? Is it Levine? There seems to be ZERO real leadership. Hell let Torii give it a shot at the helm. He might at least fire someone up!
  11. Like Christmas in July.... we're doing St. Patty's Day in September
  12. Can we call up literally everyone doing well? Kiriloff, Wells, Lewis, Stashak, Moran etc. They can't be any worse!
  13. Looking at the stats for the year just now. I gotta think Tyler Wells is the Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year this year. He has the best ERA,WHIP, and BaBip of all starters in the organization. I'm disappointed that he isn't going to AFL. Maybe it's his innings I suppose. Hope to see him at Major League Camp in March. I think clearly Andrew Vasquez is the relief pitcher of the year. Kid has skyrocketed! Love the underdog! He is a 32nd round guy! A real inspiration to guys who didn't get the draft spot they would've liked. Get in the door and you all have a shot. Even if you don't get the love and press along the way. CONGRATS VASQUATCH!
  14. I get both sides of the AK situation. But other teams have no problem accelerating their young talent. But like gunnarthor said, what isn’t he doing that would justify holding him back? I agree NOW you let him get the playoff experience. But he should have been up in AA weeks ago. I haven’t looked except in passing but I can’t think of another player who is doing this well that is being held back in the entire MLB system. Don’t be afraid! #freekiriloff
  15. I watched the Chat game. I am convinced Alcala will not get out of AA ball.
  16. If Royce is losing focus, perhaps he should hit an ATM and do a balance inquiry to see the millions of reasons NOT to lose focus
  17. Tyler Austin- I am a fan. Great pickup Interestingly, Tyler Wells middle name is Austin.
