    Probably still preferable to being in the bottom 5-10 in OPS.

    Last year versatility and availability were obviously big issues for the team, so I get it, even if a .717 OPS says he should be a bench/utility player.

    If he's throwing 97 MPH, missing bats and hitting the strike zone at an ungodly rate, you put him in the rotation for his stuff alone. More experience means more mileage on the arms. Don't waste it in AAA just because of a seniority angle.

    I'm happy the Pohlads are selling. I just don't get why people care what was behind door number 1 as opposed to doors 2 or 3. We know nothing other than that which ever door it is, profit will still be the top motivation.

    That wouldn't seem to benefit them. Carl was the slick businessman, I've seen no evidence his offspring or Dave St. Peter are. Plenty of evidence that Joe Pohlad is a terrible businessman. But I don't really get what it all matters; picking sides in this sale seems like betting on which food in the fridge is the least spoiled. We're seriously discussing which billionaire will serve our interests best? What, is this still coverage of the inauguration? Obviously the answer is going to be none of them.

    I don't want Matthews stashed just because he can be stashed. The games in April matter; if he's one of the five best, break camp with the big league team. And not only for the final record, this club has regularly started off slow and the fan disinterest through the summer has to be a correlation in those seasons. Put together the best team from Day 1, not the best team we might have in August assuming injuries and not assuming poor performance from the guys first in the hierarchy. Stop basing the roster off of hypotheticals.

    Yeah, and buying in now before they leverage the threat of leaving into a new tax-payer funded ballpark and developable land which will immediately increase the return on his investment. He wouldn't be getting that with the Twins.

    Right, the one potential buyer that was made public leveraged that info to further buy into another team that he already had a stake in? Sounds like a billionaire doing billionaire things to me.

    Who says it was the last minute? Despite the 'opening day' optimism, that never seemed reasonable. I doubt it ever was anything more than an attempt to leverage urgency to all the bidders. A buyer dropped out. Happens all the time. Will happen again until there's only one.

    Oh, I'm sure they won't move, but I don't like the idea that the white knights we were hoping for are jumping into a situation where they will immediately ask for public money or threaten to leave.

    The White Sox seem to legit be threatening to move. If true and the Ishaba's were jumping on that train, might be for the best they're out. I guess I didn't see them as a savior anyway. We have no idea if they'll be good owners. Sure, people seem to like them with the NBA, but that's a different beast with salary caps and floors. I mean, aren't ALL of these bidders going to act like they'll be the heroes we want? It's not like anyone is going public float that their backers are named Profit Margin McHedgefund III.

    Oh, nope, I missed the small detail up by the brim of the cap. Looks like it's the flip sunglasses which I don't remember Punto ever wearing. I change my pick to Chuck Knoblauch in his last season with the Twins. Which means that's the last throw of his that didn't end up in the dugout.

    I still think they need to figure out something with the major streamers. It seemed all football season long there was an icon/ad with Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen on Amazon Prime's homepage promoting the upcoming games. MLB should want that too, even if it's a fraction of the time.

    He's got an infielder's glove and throwing like an infielder, not a pitcher. I think that's the late 1990's-end of the Metrodome era road uniform. I'll go with Nick Punto.

    It sucks, but honestly ESPN is a huge part of the current economic disparity. Until the mid 1990s, the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Dodgers were just your average MLB team, despite the bigger markets. ESPN was showing games fairly evenly, until they decided that ditching every other team and promoting the hell out of every Red Sox/Yankees game was their biggest draw. Followed by broadcasting the other games more frequently based on the market size. I mean, I get it, they all want to maximize profit, but it just funneled more and more viewers to the big market teams which in turn funneled more and more money to them as opposed to the flyover country teams. Not to say there aren't other factors in this growing problem, but ESPN certainly holds a seat at that table.

    Of course ZIPs is Dan's system. He can make or break the rules as he sees fit. He didn't HAVE to put them at DH, he chose to based on his own arbitrary prerogative.

    "Paddack is being paid $7.5 million and will be given every opportunity to hold a rotation spot." I'm not saying Paddack ISN'T the best option, but it's beyond frustrating that this organization still equates paycheck with playing time. If he does NOT look to be one of the best five, he shouldn't be in the rotation. Games in April count just as much as they do in September.

    I don't disagree that this is a manager thing. That's why I pointed out that Kepler was free to be terrible against lefties throughout Molitor's tenure as manager, and in his final year it paid off. Well, not for Molitor, he still got fired. But the persistence set Kepler up to get paid.

    The Twins let Max Kepler be terrible hitting against left handed pitching for years, until he wasn't, (Eh, relatively speaking.....). He started to hit them better in 2018, Molitor's last year. Kepler had a .453 OPS in 2017 against lefties in 137 PA. Neither Wallner nor Larnach were nearly as dreadful as Kepler was yet they only got 67 PA against left handed pitchers last year. Combined. But it was a memorable season, not like we'd have wanted to taint that beautiful memory with seeing young guys struggle with the goal of improving the following year.

    I also wasn't disagreeing with you, just emphasizing that I think Bader is going to get way more PAs than even his biggest supporters will like.

    My money is on Baldelli finding a way to put Bader in the starting line up opening day. And the Cardinals don't even have a left handed starter from what I can see. I'll guess he's in LF and Larnach or Wallner will DH. Manny Margot of all people was the opening day DH last year. Bader seems like exactly the kind of player Baldelli falls in love with, he's going to play a lot and get a ton of ABs. If this team is planning on starting France, who's only making 1M and not guaranteed a roster spot, they almost certainly plan on their budget buster free agent this year being a near every day player.

    You are missing the two stats most important to this organization though. Paddack is the leader in number of birthdays and the most money owed.
