  1. I posted a poll and polls are rooted weeding out statistical bias so as to have accuracy. I honestly don't know a better word to use because bias is the proper terminology. If we used this site to represent Trump's approval rating there would be a bias due to the sample. Simple as that.
  2. Cute. I almost couldn't see the sarcasm
  3. I did not say "coaching in general" I said "coaching in hitting" There is a distinction to be made. Also, how is it unnatural for him to have this feeling? He's gone through all sorts of metamorphosis with his mechanics to the point where he should be tired of it. Not sure why I need to wonder if additional context is needed or not. He's speaking pretty darn clearly as far as I can see.
  4. I was talking about a statistical bias, which has nothing to do with what you thought I was talking about. Look two post back and read what I said
  5. Thanks for that. If you want my point see my previous post. Also understand I don't have a problem with it. Minnesota Twins fans who post on Twins Daily are anti-Trump, generally speaking. I am curious given your response to me. Do you think it is possible for someone to be a Trump supporter an not be a horrible human? Also, what do you make of the growing number of African Americans who are now embracing Trump?
  6. I did mean bias, actually. This is basic statistics, but let me clarify..... I posted a link that provided an aggregate of various approval rating polls. There was a graph that averaged out all the polls. That is a more accurate representation of how the nation feels than what we have here. I am not exactly sure the numbers, but reading through this thread I noticed that literally everyone is anti-Trump. If we were to poll this site there would be a statistical anti-Trump bias that isn't at all representative of anything you'd get from a larger more random sample I did not say the people here are biased against Trump. That is something entirely different.
  7. It's an aggregate from a lot of sources. I'm really not interested in polls, but I wanted to look for a fair reflection. It feels to you all these sources have a pro Trump bias. That is certainly possible Could it be that there is an anti-Trump bias here?
  8. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ This is about the most in-depth estimation of Trump's approval rating as I can find. It uses about every single poll there is and tries to average it out. As far as I can tell, it's about 40something approve and 50something disapprove. Whereas here, I would venture to say it is about 95% disapprove and 5% too afraid to comment,
  9. "I hit by myself and that’s where it’s going to stay" It's speculation to say he doesn't like being coached on hitting? Tell that to the people in this thread who are happy he is pissed off. The man did say he "ain't sugarcoating nothing" Right or wrong, I've paid attention to what he says. He is speaking pretty explicitly in the quotes shared by the OP. He needs to shut up about this stuff now and he needs to calm down. He has been keyed up all winter and by the time the season starts he might just spontaneously combust if he isn't careful. He needs to let his bat do the talking.. Staring in April. I won't pump my chest out about three spring training games in February And let me just say this in closing...…. I am very pleased with the work he put in this winter. I think he finally understands that he needs to do baseball at least 11 months out of the year. Hitting is a glaring weakness and I also thought he needed to put on some weight and get stronger. He did those things and I applaud him for that.
  10. That hardly matters to me. It is what was out there and it is what was discussed. Don't ask me about the rational behind that and don't me how it all got started. The fact is, it was out there and talked about as a positive attribute in all scouting reports you read about him. Whether he wanted it or not he was characterized by the Twins and in scouting reports in that manner. Do you deny that? I don't blame that on Buxton for a second. I blame it on the hype machine that cooed about him as a can't miss franchise guy, partly because he was such a "humble" and "down to earth" kinda fellow. Yeah. Not seeing that this winter in the comments he makes
  11. He went with "pissed" and he went with it while he was at charity event at a children's hospital. Inappropriate at best He seems to get rocked too easily/ He's hyped up and ready to go now, but where is he at in April. That is what I want to see. He's developed quite an April track record: https://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/split_stats.cgi?full=1&params=month%7CApril%2FMarch%7Cbuxtoby01%7Cbat%7CAB%7C 170 plate appearances and a .454 OPS #notsugarcoating
  12. Yes, I noticed that when Buxton gets criticized for something he says it is a big deal. Not terribly interested in pursuing this disucssion, but there are a few things I am reading here that makes me shake my head. This idea about him having a "chip on his shoulder" and then he and Baldelli talk about "having fun" doesn't really make sense. Buxton needs to learn how to stay on a more even keel or else he isn't ever going to be good for playing full seasons in the majors. The verbal salvos about this and that and saying how "pissed" he was last September...I get it. Whatever. Get over it already and calm the F down. When I read stuff like this it is a red flag: “I didn’t go to no hitting coach, I didn’t go work out with nobody, I worked out by myself, I hit by myself and that’s where it’s going to stay.” "I hit by myself and that's where it's going to stay" Like Hell it is. He'd better be watching videos, hitting with the team, listening to feedback, etc... at all times. Does he think this is policy now? At the very least someone needs to correct him in this case. He isn't going to work autonomously on his offensive game and if he thinks he is he's nuts. If that isn't what he wanted to get across then he needs to either shut up or learn how to express himself better. This isn't about "context" or "reading too much into things" He is pretty explicit and if this is his true "not sugarcoating nothing" attitude he darn well better hit like an All Star
  13. Mike are you Donald Fehr?
  14. Comments like these really make me scratch my head. He got a third of a BILLION DOLLARS in GUARANTEED MONEY. What are we really talking about here?
  15. How about judging the statements within the context of him alllegedly being a humble guy? Lot's has been said about this from when he was drafted thought his minor league tenure, but honestly never saw it. Seems more like he's a guy people worry about than anything. The first few years of his career has been all about trying to figure out ways to keep him from pressing too much. Make him feel more comfortable. The fact that his manager needed to make a point that he was coming to see him was incredible to me. Guys like Kepler, Rosario, Polanco (who was yo-yoed back and forth and out of options before you could blink) don't seem to need this level of care. Plain and simple, a humble guy like Buxton shouldn't be making these kinds of comments if that is the type of image he wants to uphold. When he said, "I aiin't gonna sugarcoat nothin" what was he thinking? Sorry, but this "we don't really know the context" stuff just doesn't wash with me. he decided to say this to the reporter:: ""It’s my swing, my thought process, my thinking," Buxton said. "Everything with my swing now is me. I didn’t go to no hitting coach. I didn’t go work out with nobody. I worked out by myself, I hit by myself and that’s where it’s going to stay." I noticed when Buxton gets a little emotional or perturbed he goes into this "ain't got no" double negative thing. I know people might say, "you're reading too much into it" but I don't think that is the case at all. I am being observant. I am interested in his progress. The part that was particularly vexing to me was the "I hit by myself and that's where it is going to stay" No need for that. Whether he thinks so or not that is a dig on Rowson, a guy who has had his back in a big way. When he says that he is really saying he isn't interested in any coaching. How is it a guy who couldn't hit his weight in the majors last season and rallied over the course of one week to raise his AAA average to just over .270 can say that? He really needs to calm down. He explicitly stated he was "pissed" about last September. Well....it's March tomorrow, due. Get over it and just hit.
  16. Nice recovery. Funny how the other link, though, which was there....suddenly isn't Is the implication now that those quotes given were fabricated? Buxton needs some help, but in the long run he can only help himself.
  17. It's worse than odd, in my opinion. What point is he trying to get across there? He's acting adversarial.
  18. Those are terrible comments. Not sure what he is trying to get across there. Don't coach me? I'm mad?? Hit and shut up.
  19. He didn't need to engage there. Period. I always heard about how humble he was. That reaction months later stunned me. He needs to be more self-aware for his own sake.
  20. Time for him to just hit. Period. I really need to hear no more about it. Just hit .250 and get back to me. If he can't do at least that he isn't all that special, speed and defense aside
  21. I'd have a more tight to the vest policy about things to begin with, but I was told that he was very humble and a high charchter guy so I was disappointed with his outburst at the children's hospital. I was sold on the idea he was not that way and for him to not have a filter during a charity even rubbed me the wrong way.
  22. Which is why I shake my head when fans complain that we let guys go and they become stars elsewhere. When has that happened in the last umpteen years?
  23. This. The notion that you can steal strikes from umpires for a living is ridiculous. This stuff is getting a lot of attention (surely umpires talk about this) and guys who have reputations as great "pitch framers" will eventually have umpire bias work against them because basically they are messing with the umpire's zone integrity. "Stealing strikes" to an umpire has a negative connotation for the umpire. When these rags put out lists of the league's best pitch framers eventually they won't be. Umps can take that away with subtle bias A lot of the other stuff about flexibility and knowing how to catch a low strike makes sense. In other words, don't make a strike look like a ball.
  24. That is just the thing. I don't feel he is underpaid in first few years as of right now. His lifetime average is .236 and he never had more than 400 at bats in any season until last year. Just how do you figure he is "underpaid" when the Yankees are giving him $10,785,714 each year GUARANTEED from for the next four years after next season? We don't actually have a crystal ball and it isn't like he's the model of consistency. You can tell me he is underpaid AFTER he has a strong season in 2019. Right now? I am sorry, no way do I accept that premise.
  25. You are precisely correct, but I did actually think about it after I posted and considered it. I came to the conclusion there were other guys, but they were not making any impact and that was really my point. What is the chance Hicks is worth anything (or even playing) the last couple of years of that contract. Sorry if I came off bad
