  1. You are saying the video I posted with over six million views is irrelevant. Not only does the video provide evidence of police misconduct, but it also has over six million views. It is relevant to enough people so as to render what anything you, I and Leviathan want believe as irrelevant. I personally don't look at police brutality videos as evidence, but a lot of people do--obviously. I can at least acknowledge that. Seems like you won't (I already know what Leviathan thinks)
  2. Minority communities are by and large high crime areas where people often don't cooperate with the police (due to some anti-snitching code). As an attorney you ought to know this. With regard to excessive force, sometimes force is required to bring down violent suspects that don't comply. If a cop smashes a guy in the face with his nightstick AFTER he's been assaulted then what's the problem? What exactly is the intent of a suspect who strikes a police officer? I don't fault cops who strike back with force. In fact, I applaud it. As far as false reports and planting evidence goes THOSE THINGS need a closer look.
  3. If you think what idiots say on YouTube or Facebook is irrelevant then you are myopic. No matter how absurd or stupid they are to you it doesn't nullify how much of an impact they can make on the rest of the population. This video alone has over six million views. I don't see how it is irrelevant: Moving right along...… I asked you point blank: "what methods do you suggest people use to "pressure the courts" and "press for legislation"?" I am trying to patient, but you deemed what "idiots" do on social media "irrelevant" OK.....now what? What does Leviathan suggest the rest of us do if that is not a viable option? Stick with that if you can. If you don't want to answer the question then please don't quote this post. It is super annoying.
  4. I have not done that at all. It is an element in this debate, but it isn't ALL OF IT. That being said... How is it that video recordings of negative police interaction with the public DOESN'T help to meet that end? Furthermore, what methods do you suggest people use to "pressure the courts" and "press for legislation" Sounds to me like you are saying we need local politicians across the country to make this issue priority when campaigning. I can say that it isn't necessary where I live. Maybe you have corruption in wherever you live and if that is a problem them hold the torch for it. Not a problem where I live. We have much bigger fish to fry here in upstate NY
  5. The issue needs focus and attention from whom? Those who are hired to investigate this stuff already have focus and attention on it. If you are saying the public needs to focus on this issue more, I disagree. I can say there now exists countless videos on YouTube, Facebook and other forms of social media trying to engage cops to see if they make mistakes. I don't think that needs to be increased.
  6. Don't get me started on incompetent teachers. I could write a book on that having taught now for 23 years in the public school systems of NY .Seems to me what Mr. Brooks did was fairly innocent and I was simply questioning why he used THAT example. He said plug in any other issue so no big deal. I happen to think he picked that issue for a reason, but I can't be 100% sure so I won't press him on it. However, I have seen several mention this is just the case of a "few bad apples" Well, OK. I can agree with that and if you are concerned about a few bad apples post all the links you can about police misconduct if you feel this is in important issue in America today. Far be it from me to impede anyone from doing that. On the other hand.... would you allow me to use the "few bad apples" rationale to walk back my concerns about Islamic fundamentalism and the threat it poses to the free world? I don't agree with Mr. Brooks when he says: "Substitute homeless veterans with whatever else you'd like the money spent on, including lower taxes." How about if I said I would like to see that money spent on military defense? I sincerely doubt that would be appropriate to just about everyone here.
  7. What does one have to do with other? You threw these two separate issues together and in the process, somewhat unwittingly, presented an "if only" scenario that doesn't merge in any way at all. If only we had honest police, maybe we wouldn't have homeless veterans.
  8. It's such a tiny little side issue but it is an illustration about extreme and radical he is. I have no use for Bernie Sanders. We need to demand better
  9. I am not sure why Sanders went down this road. Is it because he is such a champion for human rights he has to show everyone how extreme he is about proving it? I honestly don't know. Prisoners shouldn't vote is because serving time equals losing rights. When they get out they can vote if they want.
  10. We need to crush this team. With extreme prejudice.
  11. I am challenged by it on a personal level. I teach (and have taught) students whose parents are undocumented. I spend entire school years getting attached to my students and work with some of them after school. Most of the ones I work with after school are children of immigrants (or immigrants themselves). A student of mine earlier this week who I worked with after school started talking to me about how his parents walked from Ecuador years ago. From ECUADOR and it took them 14 months. I worked with this kid's older brother in the same way several years ago. The mother has made tremendous progress learning the language.....and they are great people. Given my stance on this issue, do you now see where I am challenged? I have been grappling with guilt over some of the things I have said and posted here and yet I am trying earnestly to stick with the facts. I am reading the most current stuff from Homeland Security and left of center publications. I am not speaking in hyperbole MOST of the time here. What you say about busting hard on employers of illegals needs to be done. Yet you say nothing about what happens to the illegal who loses the job as a result. Also, if this policy should be implemented with more force you are acknowledging there are lots of illegals and yet you can't say the word. It is what it is and, honestly, they do created a great drain on our economy. All illegals can't own homes so they don't pay real estate tax. They also work off the books so they don't pay income tax. They get free hospital visits. Just how much this amounts to I have no idea, but to say they aren't sucking up federal dollars is pretty myopic. They are not part of "the system" so therefore they don't pay into it.
  12. I agree and that's what I'm shooting for
  13. Thank you for this. I actually wanted to talk about immigration because I'm challenged by it. I'll try and explain more later if I can
  14. Sticking with the substantive issue, can we then call those crossing the border seeking to get detained then released Illegal immigrants (even if they are seeking asylum)?
  15. If you want to go on a crusade to prosecute those who employ illegals then what do we do with the illegals working for them? SO we arrest the boss and what happens to the worker? I guess they find another job so you can arrest the next employer that hires them, and so on and so on. If they are being hired and you arrest employers for hiring them what else are they to be call but illegals?
  16. Mueller is angry? Then come out of hiding and talk.
  17. You are going keep repeating "context" as if that's some magic bullet? Last post I read from you in the matter you STILL didn't think there was a problem. I believe you said, "why should we pretend there's some crisis" just last week. That about sums up the breadth of your knowledge on the topic
  18. On immigration... I posted three links. One from Homeland Security and two from highly regarded liberal publications. All three links were under a week old. .....and yet you just kept chirping the same recycled uniformed BS. It was the ultimate cop out. Kind of like the Privlige and Responsibilty thread that I nuked. The problem is.... When you agree with me or have to acknowledge common ground or even note that I provided new information, you can't. I conceded your point on humanitarian aid to the northern triangle countries. We should help them. I agree. Then again, you could not accept or understand what the issues at the border are for border patrol, cities near the border and even the migrants themselves. HumanitIan aid is very magnanimous, but what about what government is supposed to do? What about the pressing issue at the border and the fact that adults are smuggling children across the border and the reality of those figures? That we are now at the point that people just cross and aren't even detained. You won't even look at the data. No one did. We are talking Homeland Security data. It's like what chmpuckett said a couple of months ago. Very few people here can acknowledge that someone with a different ideology can have a valid point. Heck....nevermind that. Few even look at the most recent data in their own. Most insisted that although literally thousands are detained everyday because they crossed en masse ILLEGALY....that they shouldn't be called illegals. What? Thank heaven for LoBombo breaking it down. You proved in that thread you just won't read. Too risky for you.. You've invested too much in being PSUEDO Don't read, just keep flapping like you know all there is to know.
  19. On the condition that I get to pick which games. I don't bet blind and you will lose
  20. I liked your last post because it goes to show that you just don't read anything I say. Same with the last two posts I made in general politics in regard to immigration. I cited a one week old report from Homeland Security, a much discussed article from the NY Times and a brilliant informative essay from the Atlantic. I purposed picked articles from legitimate left of center sources and you STILL could not find a minute to read any of it. Yet you speak as though you know how to solve the problem. YOu prove time and time again that if you don't want to know certain facts then you just aren't going to know them. Obviously, you did not read what I wrote earlier about Biden and you are not old enough to remember him bowing out of the 1988 race in shame: https://www.businessinsider.com/plagiarism-scandal-joe-biden-first-presidential-run-1988-2019-3/ The busing thing never even came up in that run: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/opinion/biden-busing-integration.html I know you told me to stop telling people how to post--and I will. But I am making an exception with you until you actually read and opine on one of those links I posted in general politics. That is the most recent news from impeccable sources and you just won't read them.....but you sure as heck are going to talk like you are an expert! Go SABR
  21. To take polls seriously at this stage is like following win probability in the 3rd inning of a ballgame
  22. Biden has more goofy quotes and soundbites than all of us can even count. He's going to misspeak, stammer and double talk his way into oblivion
  23. Biden to me will get slaughtered on the campaign trail. Slaughtered.
  24. That's sounds naive considering what went down last time
  25. I think someone who has not yet thrown their hat in the ring, probably a moderate, can knock off Trump
