  1. . Toss out last year because something wasn't right with him? That doesn't work in sports. We aren't at the roulette wheel. Let's talk about what last year was: He had migraine issues and a concussion. The Twins cannot ignore these issues as they continue to mount
  2. Willie Mays and Jpe DiMaggio had superior defensive skills. Rarely--if ever--did they crash into things. I heard an old timer call in a radio show years ago and he said DiMaggio rarely ever dove for a ball. That's the thing. With Buxton's world class speed and touted "athleticism" he should make things look easy. He has crashed into walls on balls he had literally no chance of catching. The line drive Nelson Cruz smashed over the wall in Seattle is an example of this. I agree with you. Nothing ridiculous about getting this message across. If he keeps going like this (with his migraines and concussions mounting) he might be significantly slowed down or out of the league sooner than expected
  3. Great outfielders don't get constantly injured trying to make plays. They make the plays and keep on playing Collisions are not what makes him a great fielder. His speed makes him a great fielder.
  4. I get "hasn't figured it out yet" but we are talking about a guy whose game is centered on speed AND is often injured. The timeline for players like this isn't very long We can't keep going with that angle.
  5. What do you mean "you can't have it both ways"? Many a great outfielder was able to stay healthy and play 150+ games. He can provide excellent defense without being so reckless. A lot great outfielders made things look effortless while Buxton is like Evel Kenevil John spoke about correcting a specific action. Are you saying HR should just keep slamming into walls because that falls under the category of aggressive play?
  6. 100% fair and correct. He's not going to mean much as a part time player who hits .250 and gets on base 30% of the time
  7. We all make adjustments as a matter of survival. This one thing thing right here I can do without. He's made attempts that are extremely low percentage plays. It almost seems like he was taught (not through explicit direction) that wall collisions = effort and we want to see effort. This is his fifth season and he's played in over 100 games only once. This should concern him. Either he takes more of an interest in self-preservation or his career will be short
  8. Completely fair assessment in every way.
  9. I agree with you. He's played over 100 games once and this is now his fifth season. I am not betting he's going to make 100 this year, and this is supposed to be a bounce back season? We need to be honest about this guy. I think the accolades and high praise waa dished out way too fast. The reality is the guy has migraine issues and he's piling up the concussions. This kind of thing doesn't actually work itself out. Concussions compound and worsen over time.
  10. Mueller is probably a racist. We just don't know it yet.
  11. Mueller is getting butchered like a hog. I hope Nadler is happy.
  12. See, now this kind of talk really amounts to sour grapes. We were up 8-2 after 4 at home so the umpire should have no bearing on the outcome if our bullpen could pitch to under a 12.00 ERA the rest of the way
  13. This takes me back to May 2002 at Yankee Stadium for the vibe of the game. The season is beginning to feel like 2001. I hope I'm wrong but it developing that kind of trajectory Go glass half full if you want, but the reality is this bullpen is becoming more and more exposed. At no time did I feel we were safe--even after we went up 8-2. We just don't have the arms right now. Don't know if one or two good arms can make up for the lack of depth. Rocco can keep reshuffling the deck but it is still the same card game.
  14. You can bet nothing surprises me when it comes to any form of Trump backlash
  15. I acknowledge Trump's "inappropriateness" Now what?
  16. I don't know SABR. If I worked in a place that told me not to show Elizabeth Warren's inauguration to my students I would have none of it just the same. The fact that administration of a school district (not all) took it upon themselves to email blast its teachers directing them not to show the Trump inauguration is absurd. They are in essence denying students their right to see it. This stuff happens every four years and I had lessons centered around it. This kind of brazen imposition on everyone's freedom that has become all too typical and it's widely accepted. I know some people viewed Trump's inauguration tantamount to a KKK rally, but that's their own paranoia getting the better of them. I don't need liberal minds turning into the morality police and shutting down what I can or can't watch. This takes me back to the actions of the "moral majority" of the 80s who assumed they knew what was right for everyone. It's become almost the same thing
  17. Mueller has that Frankenstein/John Kerry look. I cannot wait to see him on the stand.
  18. So? George W Bush had no historical value either but the administration in my district didn't insist we not show his inauguration. This I HATE TRUMP hysteria is historical and unique. It's actually fascinating to watch
  19. It most certainly was, but what if some administrator directed his staff not to tune into Obama's inauguration? The "private censor" applied in my district didn't apply to me. I played Trump's inauguration
  20. So? The administrators in my school district got together and told all of us teachers not to show the Trump inauguration. The Obama election was treated like the first lunar landing. I wasn't outraged. Why is this such a big deal to you?
  21. I am sure someone didn't go hungry, so it isn't all gloom and doom
  22. The border/immigration polices are not based in race. It's about a mass migration of people who are coming to our border in astronomical numbers. These numbers are compounding at a rate where a) we cannot process these people and we cannot absorb them. This has absolutely nothing to do with race. If they were English, Dutch, Italian or whatever country you want to name came rushing the border by the thousands do you seriously think Trump wouldn't be STRONGLY against it?
  23. This is why they need to focus on policy. They've thrown out healthcare as a basic human right and different variations on a new green deal. That all sounds nice, but they have yet to articulate how these plans will actually work. In doing that, they've alienated a lot of Americans. THIS is what they desperately need to turn their focus to. ....Instead they keep stepping on the same rake and right now Trump is just toying with them. If I'm you I am hoping some new candidate emerges out of the blue because this field is an atrocity. None of these candidates has what it takes
  24. My wife and I actually met Bernie Sanders last Sunday in Burlington, VT. Being an upstate NY guy I've rolled through that town but my wife and I spent several days there kayaking, biking, shopping on Church St Market.... Guess who popped into Uncommon Grounds (a coffee shop) last Sunday morning? My wife spoke to him briefly and I took a picture of them. Bernie is a gracious guy; funny and engaging. He's not my kind of politician but he seems to have his heart in the right place. By the way, he was wearing his Sunday best and he had a young aid with him. They sat down on a bench right on Church St. He is very much the man about town there.
  25. What is your platform, sir? I'm not exactly sure, but Trump is a racist. Vote for me. Right. This is precisely what should be avoided. This makes the democrats a one-trick pony. Combating Trump's "racism" with emotional rhetoric won't win them an election. They need to focus on ideas and how those ideas are supposed to work.
