  1. Carroll did a good job fouling off pitches until he got the right strike to watch sail by...
  2. Agreed...give him the benefit of the doubt that he may have actually improved and is now a better hitter (although he had set that bar pretty low).
  3. Game Summary: What was Gardy thinking by leaving Marquis in the game so long? Oh yeah, it wouldn't have mattered with our Groundout offense.
  4. Wow...my glass-half-full outlook sees a good mix of OBP/speedy gonzaleses and some power bats. I'm more concerned with Marquis not giving up 12 hits and 6 runs in 5 innings.
  5. Interesting lineup...with two catchers and all.
  6. That's funny...but sadly true.
  7. I got to watch Komatsu during his rookie campaign with the Brewers and think this is a great move. (I'm not a scout but I saw that) He was a good outfield defender and a hitter with good discipline and power (at least at this level). He doesn't have the speed of Hicks or Revere but much more power potential. We have to have something to get excited about this season.
  8. Was Butera's at-bat as bad as it looked on Gameday? 3 89 mph strikes in the wheel house without even a swing?
  9. Wow, CDog, I thought you were more intelligent than that (and way more than most of us, IYO). It's obvious he doesn't think Mauer's earning his paycheck.
  10. They were supposed to be better before they lost Baker and Frankie lost his shoes in his locker. There are positive signs in two quality starts in a row (marquis and blackburn) and the offense has been keeping us in most games...just one timely hit could make the difference. And a 10 game winning streak brings us (almost) back to .500. Stranger things have happened.
  11. Are we sure that Gardy isn't somehow behind this bad press of a former player?
  12. I thought I read that Detroit will still be on the hook for his $5M salary this year but I'm not sure.
  13. For me, as last year's Titanic season scraped past the iceberg and started to list, I would make less of an effort to check the gameday updates during my busy evenings with family and during the inevitable conclusion of Tolbert-Tosoni-Butera-Repko-Hohum I would just check the box scores in the morning paper. I'm definately not there this year as the offense has shown at times that they may be able to overcome the starting pitching ineptitudeness (is that a made up word?)
  14. I've only got to listen to one game this year on Gameday Audio but was impressed with Cory who seems like a vast improvement over John Gordon. I didn't notice a difference with Dan Gladden's smug condescending attitude...mostly to the young players he gives advice to on the air. I do smile though at his thinly vieled disgust calling pop-ups.
  15. You're right...how about $150,000 per game...or $17,000 per inning? Seroiusly, we're all just jealous. People would still be griping even if he had settled for $18M per year or even $13M...maybe not. I do agree that it's too bad that's what it always comes back to. Joe is a great ballplayer who's having a solid start to the season by his standards and would be considered great by most other's standards.
  16. Kent Hrbek is the ONLY one who ever wore a Cheesehead at a Packers game.
  17. Yea...I guess it would be wrong to conclude that Morneau's clutch homeruns increased the probability of a win versus grounding into a double play.
  18. Wow...thanks for this great evaluation. Not that I want to focus negatively on our $23 Million man, but (in this admittedly small sample size of 12 games) the only place I see Mauer's name is as a contributor to three "why we losts" due to GIDPs. Some commentators critized me for labeling Joe as an anti-clutch, rally-killer a while back but I think that's what these stats tell us...
  19. And who backs up Valencia at 3rd with Hughes sent down? oh, that's right...Burroughs.
  20. Before they signed Mauer for 8 years $180M the Twins had never signed anyone to a long-term, high dollar contract...but then they did. So just because they haven't signed a big FA starter in the past doesn't mean they won't.
  21. sounds like 6 weeks in the hot tub.
  22. Brian, I thoroughly enjoy your perspective and dry wit...and congratulations on the promotion to Triple A. I am still a rookie but no longer a newbie junior member.
