  1. And that is after everyone has been paid, from ownership to front office to bat boys and trainers in the low minors, right?
  2. The Twins couldn't afford to stash him in the back of the bullpen (similar to Diamond). They could have a rotation of Logan, Dean, May, Pressley and Vasquez at Rochester. Meyer could advance. Diamond might stay in the mix. Wimmers should be there by now. I'm sure another body can be had. Part of the Worley/Diamond mess is also $$$ due each pitcher. Are they operating on a major/minor league split contract, do they get something in-between, or are both making whatever they have signed a contract for in the off-season.
  3. Minor league rosters should be set by April 1 to allow for travel time. The minor league seasons starts later that week.
  4. Wasn't he drafted by the Twins. Seems to be a logical pickup then.
  5. You could throw money at Drew! But, yes, the hitters are not cementing themselves into full-time jobs. When Chris Hermann is the spring training surprise, something ain't right!
  6. Right now, you have to wait until the last day to send him thru. If you did it today, another team could claim him and keep him until the last day, and he would probably go thru waivers. 25-man rosters are far from set, so he is the 26th-man on any claim, at the moment. i imagine he would go thru. You can also hold off and keep him on the roster and send him down opening week, too. But, if he is injured now or in the time he's in major league camp, he collects major league salary on the dl. Personally, the Twins have to STOP thinking about options and waivers and anything else. Go with the BEST 25. Trust your depth. If a guy doesn't look like he'll be here next year for sure, don't worry so much about losing him this year. The Parmelees, Diamonds, Worleys, Mastros (even Duensings) are all replaceable parts, if not internally, maybe by picking up someone else's waiver wire guy. The killer is some of these guys stinkin' up the minors and keeping the future from playing now, today. Do we need Diamond and Worley taking starts at AAA. Seriously?
  7. Morales would be a one-year stopgap and would mean a Kubel or a Parmelee are truly expendable. I would rather have Morales with Kubel on the bench than Kubel with Parmelee on the bench,
  8. Tim Wood was officially released by the Twins in late August. Yes, the Twins have to make decisions on Worley, Diamond and Dedunco. I always take myself that you should bring the best 25 north. But I'm sure the Twins will want to see if they can play and get value out of some folks, thus the option shuffle that will see Thielbar and Pressley at Rochester will most likely happen. There;s so much unnecessary chafe on the Rochester roster: Hoffman, Raley, Guerrier, Thompson, Pino. We don't know if Achter is the real thing. Who will close games, Tonkin? Oliveros is a sweet spot possibly. Guerra is still in the mix. Ibarra is a darkhorse, and if you are on the 40-man, you'll more than likely get the call before others. Who are the closers for each level? Vasquez? What's his story? There's like 10 too many relievers in the minors, not to mention the starters that need to find a home, possibly in the bullpen.
  9. If you add a Parmelee and Mauer to the mix, you have a nice rotation. Willingham, yes, needs to show he can play the field if this Twins wish to use him as tradebait. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. Arcia could be the second coming of David Ortiz, shuffling into the DH role for most of his career and if he can show the power, having quite a long career. But he can still play the outfield, so why not for a year or two. Kubel was in the National league where there was no DH, so he had to play the field and did better than okay, although his production slumped bigtime last year. He's a stopgap at the most, or another trade candidate if the Twins see the emergence of Hicks and Buxton this year. Kubel, like Willingham, will be on a mission to produce so they can get a bigger contract in 2015. Parmelee is bench bait, yet do the Twins need a fifth outfielder (assuming they add a backup in center, and Kubel can play the outfield, so Parmlee becomes #6). They need a backup for some games at first. I wish he was more versatilem and this is the year he actually needs big league at bats, but I don't see him getting them. At some point Plouffe will become the super backup for a season or two. Maybe Parmelee will show enough to also be tradebait. Right now I don't want to be a first anseman in the Twins system...Mauer is pretty much blocking you out unless you can play another position and give us something at DH. The joy is that the Twins do have the potential to trade Willingham and Kubel and even Parmelee, even if they are in the hunt. You would assume Hicks can drop in somewhere, and maybe another body will come out of nowhere or advance faster than the norm. Like the rotation, the Twins are possibly rich in talent to trade if they can figure out a way to showcase them, sending people elsewhere and bringing up plausible prospects to replace them and still not fall in the standings.
  10. I hope they bring the BEST 25 both, period. Cut ties with the wannabees, let the rookies that NEED developing continue to develop unless they so shine the place up. I just wish there was some value to be had in any of the three, but there isn't.
  11. In spring training games, the Twins sell fairly well to begin with, so Sano won't necessarily put more butts in the seats. If he plays on the road, some people might make that trip to Red Sox land.
  12. Sano don't matter. He will float betwen camps as the Twins see fit. Will be more interesting to see what happens to the optionless guys: Parmelee, Deduno, Diamond, Worley who all have to pretty much stick around until the last day to see if they can get thru waivers. And, remember, the guys would have to go 25-man, not 40-man. Players are cut early on the 40-man, otherwise get paid big league money. I think Wood did this last year. Machedo did it a few years back. Both are considered rostered Twins, but never played a major league game with the team (can you name any others who did this?) Yes, Fetters came close. Usually the minor league guys play if it is split squad or a road show. ALL players need at bats and fielding time, hopefully with whomever will be their teammates.
  13. Get rid of Blonde Cam. We see nothing but blondes. I know, that isn't totally bad, but..........
  14. As said, he can be waived tomorrow. They saw something and grabbed him. The Twins do need to find people they CAN remove from the 40-man, and as long as a spot is full, why not fill it. Maybe the Twins are still dangling Diamond, Worley and Duensing (and Swarzak) out there. You never know. Any of those would bring a non-40-man prospect more than likely. Is Brooks a better bet than Albers was? Is he a better bullpen guy than Thompson is? Other question is, does he become a minor league free agent if he is waived? Of course, this shows the Twins have an interest in him. Yes, he will be getting a higher salary out of the spring training gate, so to speak.
  15. No. Absolutely not. You make offers and a player grabs them or not. The player has to feel secure that they won't be getting more elsewhere. Did the Twins overpay, or are there problems on the horizon with the guys who are waiting it out. Did they make a hint of an offer to Arroyo or Garza and were rebuffed? Did Pelfrey really want to come here? The Twins needed to blow players away to get them to come. Agents work against you. They dangle that Arroyo has three years on the table, that Garza is looking at $72 million. I think it is he other way around...Garza and Arroyo probably should've signed sooner rather than later. At some point rosters and payroll are set. The number of teams willing to payout so much $$$ shrinks.
  16. You can never have too much pitching. And spring training would let you know if you want the Guerrier or Capuano or stay with the Worley or Tonkin. If the contract is inexpensive enough, you can eat some money (Hey, who was that reliever the Twins gave $750,000 to who threw in one game and blew out his arm...in spring training?
  17. There is no need to keep a roster spot open because of an add come the end of spring training. Someone either makes the roster or doesn't. If Kubel pushes aside Colabello or Parmelee, so be it. If Guerrier seems a better choice than Diamond or Worley, let it happen. Plus, you always get at least one guy that you can 60-day (Deduno, perhaps).
  18. I am curious to hear how the event goes this year. Snowy, slushy, cold weather. But looks like the Twins are opening the ornate areas of Target Field. And they are putting 4-5 guys on each table, often it used to be just 3. Yes, the funds go to a good cause and there is some expense (but it can also be organizational meeting time, and tying in with the Diamond Awards and Caravan). But curious to see how the event does pan out from responses. Other teams have a lot less players in the fold for such events and actually charge more overall. The Twins high-priced stars this year have been reduced to just Mauer, with Carew and Blyleven also in THAT fold.
  19. Minor point, Peterson played for the Cardinals (and always great to see any player get the major league nod). New Brit and the Twins are a great combination! Hope it continues long and strong!
  20. I would've asked for $25,000 per each start. $2,500 seems...well, rather small. If a real starter started 33 games the total would be...help me, Bert, with my California math,,,,,,,
  21. I would vote for Garza. But I would rather see Drew with the extra funds going by way of Santana. Public Relations-wise, he would be worth every penny! f he pitched, that first game -- wow! -- and it would all be worth it! Okay, too much Santana love here.
  22. Arcia will be familiar with the league, but the league will also be more familiar with him. 2015 promises to be big, but it would help if the propsects of that year get lineup time this year. The Twins have not stop striking out so much, move runners, MAYBE steal some bases, and ALL hit for their average or better. That's a lot to ask. Hopefully the starters will keep the team in the game better than last year, yet the batters must also help the rotation out by putting more early runs on the board, too...which brings up the question when playing another team...who DOES have the best starter on the mind today. The Twins still lack a super starter to go against another (co ntending) club's super starter.
  23. Haren and Zumaya? Let's bring back Pat Neshek!
  24. Man, isn't that the second on the list...so he has 50 for taking pills due to an injury, announced in November, and this for recreational usage...so won't it be for 150?
  25. I would like to see Hicks be the new #2, flipping places with Rosario. Could the Twins move Dozier back to short, perhaps? When is Kepler really due, and Kenny Vargas.
