  1. Just because it's a game thread...what kind of people are we that live in a state where a guy can be: Monday: Coaching girls golf in Sunny Park Rapids and sweating it out at 83 degrees and Tuesday: Coaching next to the Big Ice Cube in Warroad where a brisk wind out of the east makes it feel like 40 degrees
  2. Robby plays a single into a double...nice!
  3. Half way to an El Perfecto...good thing the Twins bench is loaded with httrs nt nsgnfcnt rlf ptchrs
  4. Bring back any Butera!!! (yup quoting myself...it's a gamethread)
  5. OMG...Wilson tags hitter on strike 2...are the rules different in AAA
  6. Mollie knows his hitters have no chance today...infield playing in in the 3rd inning
  7. "Hit the puss that Shields is throwing up the middle and get this game over with" - Love TK and any other coach before launch angle and no-seam superballs were used in MLB
  8. I sure hope Petit pinch hits next inning....UGH!!!
  9. Can we please be done with Robbie Grossman? I'll give you 2 reasons the Twins haven't moved on from RG: A Million & Another Million Should have moved on when the contract could have been dropped for much less than the $2 Million tied to RG now and that my friends is just Gross Man!
  10. Gotta give props to Castro tonight...blocking everything coming his way including 50 foot strike three on Beckham (who was probably too concerned about AllwaysInModeration finishing his story) Castro must be a Twins Daily reader
  11. Castro has mentioned that when he's framing, it's first and foremost in his mind, sometimes to the detriment of other things. I wonder if this is an ugly side effect of his framing. It might be because he does it all the time. He's a good framer, but he's a poor blocker and an average thrower. Yeah, that was kind of my point. He's preoccupied with framing on almost every pitch, which diminishes his ability to react to things like balls in the dirt or baserunners. Why so much concern with Castro's interest in farming...if he's preoccupied with the late spring, current market for livestock or when he'll be able to plant his soybeans maybe he shouldn't be a professional baseball player edit...couldn't multiquote (more than likely my fault) and at
  12. Duke did exactly what he's supposed to do...throw pitches that appear to be in the zone then dart out of it for swinging strikes Castro's job is to block swing and miss strikes in the dirt If Duke throws the ball in the zone bad things happen...like two run triples to a guy who was way overmatched by mediocre fastballs up in the zone
  13. Thought I was over that JV attempt...agree with you 100%...not an $8Million play
  14. Game hinged on a fundamental play that wasn't made by a player that is supposed to provide plus defense at his position...Castro Attempting to pick a left-handed breaking ball in the dirt is not acceptable especially on third strike If it hit the plate all the more reason to be in position to block the ball rather than to try and pick it Castro did wake up in time to make a couple good blocks So ends the fundamentals of catching rant...I feel better now
  15. For looking back on things sake made a Sheet with all predictions The aggregate of TD Staff and commenters put's the Twins at 91-71 Offensive POY 27 Dozier 11 Sano 6 Buxton 6 Rosario 2 Morrison 1 Mauer 1 Most HR 27 Sano 15 Morrison 5 Dozier 4 Rosario 2 Kepler 1 Starting Pitcher 27 Berrios 18 Lynn 7 Odorizzi 2 Relief Pitcher 27 Reed 21 Hildenberger 4 Moya 1 Rogers 1 Rookie 28 (One Voter had two) Garver 9 Moya* 7 Gonsalves* 5 Romero 5 Gordon 1 Curtiss 1 Total Entries 28 for Record, 27 for Player Predictions
  16. Minnesota Twins 100-62 (AL Central Champs,) Offensive Player of the Year: Eddie Rosario Most Home Runs: Miguel Sano Starting Pitcher of the Year: Jose Berrios Relief Pitcher of the Year: Addison Reed Twins Rookie of the Year: Gabriel Moya For a look at how the Twins could get to 100 and to make a more calculated prediction of Wins and Losses feel free to build your own Path to 100 (Simply fill in wins and losses for each team on the Twins schedule)
  17. In today's game a player's clock is more important than early season wins, I have to wonder if Nick Gordon isn't a victim of Clockitis Starts yesterday's 9th with a single, not a Robbie Grossman work a walk, an actual bat on ball rally starter Had a decent spring at the dish showing shades of Cristian Guzman (SSS and all that acknowledged) Able to play SS and 2nd while also providing some help at 3B by freeing Escobar or Adrianza to play 3B if the big fella snaps his titanium tibia Tip of the Hat to the "He's gotta play everyday" folks...i get it...but why couldn't he? Polanco played when he wasn't fully prepared, turned out ok...maybe Escobar goes back to keeping everyone loosey goosey on the bench while playing somewhere 3 outta 5 games Any acceleration of Gordon's clock would be offset by the $1.5M saved in the corresponding roster move of releasing Grossman (I'd say trade but IMO we'd find out that the league has moved on from "a walk is as good as a hit" mode, unless there's added value to that type of player with the glove or speed or prodigious pop). Let's face it...in today's game RG is like that guy in softball that comes to the plate looking for a walk Hindsight and all that considered this was another exercise in shoulda-coulda-woulda...I'll be there on the 5th freezing and cheering what looks to be a team with promise and potential, just like me trying to fit a 3XL body into an XL Twins Hoodie
  18. The 13 Twins Daily "Experts" are showing a few trends Optimism abounds for the local 9 as well as the Southsiders and the Defending Champs And there seems to be a little Yu Darvish Angst against the Cubbies...and the only way to explain the Rays Under trend is an upcoming trade of Chris Archer to the only team with a unanimous Over prediction AL EAST: O / U NYY 7 / 6 BOS 7 / 6 TOR 7 / 6 TBR 2 / 11 BAL 9 / 4 AL CENTRAL: CLE 4 / 9 MIN 13 / 0 KC 5 / 8 DET 4 / 9 CWS 12 / 1 AL WEST: HOU 11 / 2 LAA 5 / 8 SEA 8 / 5 TEX 6 / 7 OAK 5 / 8 NL EAST: WAS 9 / 4 NYM 4 / 9 PHI 8 / 5 ATL 8 / 5 MIA 4 / 9 NL CENTRAL: CHI 2 / 11 STL 10 / 3 MIL 6 / 7 CIN 6 / 7 PIT 4 / 9 NL WEST: LAD 6 / 7 ARI 7 / 6 COL 6 / 7 SFG 3 / 10 SD 10 / 3 Totals 198 / 192

  20. To prove the point that analytics can take the fun out of just about anything I present the Over/Under Analytical Analysis We first need to calculate how many possible winning outcomes there are for this Over/Under prediction Using the following algorithm we can prove without a doubt how many winning outcomes there are in a full MLB season* (G x T) / TTT = O Where G = number of games for each team T= number of teams TTT = Takes Two Teams to Tango O = Number of possible winning outcomes (162 x 30) / 2 = 2430 Totaling the numbers from the Odds Shark info we get 2431 outcomes (where the extra game comes from is hard to determine) As the total from Odds Shark is in the ballpark we will assume the wins balance out For each team a contestant selects the Over there should be an equal number of teams with the Under designation in order for the math to work...but what fun would that be Unlike the rest of this post here's something that might be slightly useful a summary sheet of the entries so far *assuming no rainouts or cancellations
