    That OPS is good enough is he's elite defensively. The numbers I've seen from last year indicate it wasn't. Good isn't below average offense and average (at best) defense.

    Well, Castro didn't hit, and if I looked at the right websites, his defense - including his famed pitch framing - was pretty average. So, if those numbers were right, I wouldn't chalk that one up to much success.

    It's more about what the other "good" teams in the AL are doing to improve their rosters than it is about what the Twins are or aren't doing. On paper, the Yankees got better, the Angels got better, Houston is still good, Cleveland's still good, and Boston is bound to make a counter move to Stanton ... the Twins got a soon-to-be 41-year-old who's been average the last two seasons and was pummeled the last time he was in the AL. The Wonder twins better start activating their powers pretty soon.

    That was me and Burdi very well could be. But a 26-year-old with straight gas and no idea of how to control it in his year 26 season is most definitely Hoey reincarnate.

    I'm more concerned with the 5.5 BB/9 last year in AA as a 26-year-old. Doesn't matter if you hit 100 or have the best slider in a dumpster fire of an organization if your BB rates increase every year.

    Looking at Kinley's numbers above A+ would say that you're probably right in valuing Bard over Kinley. Aside from Ks, everything else looks really, really rough.

    Wow, color me underwhelmed. Kinley's numbers look like absolute garbage above A+. I understand not protecting Bard, but losing Burdi and drafting what appears to be Jim Hoey 2.0 is just asinine.

    Honestly, the first and only thing I could think of that they had in common is their consumption of oxygen. I'm not at all high on Slegers ... or pretty much any Big 10 Pitchers of the Year.

    I hope they're in on Darvish, but won't be heartbroken if they're not. Lots of money and years for a 31-year-old with some past arm issues. I'd love him to be here, but something about him makes me a bit uneasy. I'd really like them to chase Cobb, but the Cubs' interest probably drives the cost up above where it belongs. And, even if the Twins are able to offer apples to apples in terms of years and dollars, the Cubs are probably a bit closer to winning again. I imagine if all other things are equal, that might be a pretty good tie-breaker. The prospect haul required for Archer might be a bit hard to swallow. Honestly, I think I'd prefer Cole to Archer - 2 years younger, comparable (if not better) career numbers, same number of years before FA, and likely a bit more reasonable in cost to acquire. I have zero interest in another Rule 5 pick-up. They have enough young guys of their own that could be treated as an in-house Rule 5 guy. Sign a veteran or two and let the young guys battle it out. Maybe look at a guy or two that's available and if they're not selected, trade for them.

    Well, it was a nice pipe dream to have for a few weeks. Now let's settle back into reality and overpay for Mike Fiers and Chi Chi Gonzalez.

    I think some of these could come back to bite them. Wow. There's really not enough fat on the roster to add a couple more of those guys?

    It is about frequency ... and in PT duty the last couple of years his frequency's been pretty darn good. I'd really like to see him get a legitimate shot at FT, or at least close to it, duty. If he were to put up his 162-game average over the course of a season, I'd be ecstatic.

    To me, an average (if he's lucky) 2-month rental wouldn't be a worth a Top-20 prospect if picking up the majority or entirety of the remaining contract. Someone outside of there, fine, and adjust accordingly based on the money - but I wouldn't go above 15 for this particular rental.

    Earlier I stated he was an average pitcher that they shouldn't give up much for and was given statistics from the Falvinites that show that he was above average. So I went back and found numbers that showed he was in the middle. That's it. He's an average pitcher that I don't want them to overpay for. End of story.

    And his ERA+ is exactly the league average of 100, and in virtually every statistical category he's in the bottom half to bottom third among the 36 qualifying NL pitchers. See, it's easy to cherry pick numbers to support an opinion.

    For a rental that's the epitome of league average, the give better not be too significant.
