  1. If teams are willing to give up high upside pitching prospects for Willingham and Ryan turns it down he has failed again. How will the Twins become competitive again eithout trading high on assets like Willy for pithing? We know that draft/develop is not an org strength snd I dont see the Polads upping payroll anytime soon.
  2. Ryan needs to trade Liriano before his next start. I think the risk is just too high that Frankie poops the bed Sunday and has little trade value. Pitt Tex LAA and LAD should be called and take the best offer.
  3. Every team suffers injuries and prospects flame out. The. Twins issue is they drafted so poorly for 10 years thst they had no home grown pitching to fill in or to trade for other assets. Spending FA dollars on soft tossers like Blacky, Pavano, Marquis, Ortiz, Ponson and many others was like lighting money on fire. You can never win a playoff series in the AL with soft tossers.
  4. I would trade Sano for Price in a heartbeat but there is no way TB would do that.
  5. I agree the cubs have the worst but Twins are right with stros for 29th place. The Twins hage been terrible lately and many of the regulars you speak of would never make the bigs on a playoff club like the Twins should strive to be. Thats like saying the Nick Blackburn signing was solid because he has been a "regular" in the Twins rotation for 5 years.
  6. Compared to other teams that is horrendous. No all stars and no long term building blocks other than Garza. Three solid regulars: Baker, Garza and Span and a whole lot of relief pithers (dime a dozen) and replacement level guys. Revere has a chance to be more than a typical 4th OF but I am not yet convinced.
  7. Compare the number of above replacement mlb players the Twins have drafted over the last 10 years and you may say it is worse than horrendous. The Pitching draftees have been the worst in baseball and the Twins injuries have been no worse than other teams over that span.
  8. I agree with Thyros. Other than Willingham, none of the offseason signings were made to make the team better beyond 2012. The other signings were bargin bin stop gaps and in the case of Burton it turned out great. Doumit was a great signing but extending a part timer on a 100 loss team hardly makes sense. The rest of the signings were like setting money on fire buying washed up vets to fill spots that should be occupied by cheap young talent from the minors. This gets back to the main issue that TR and his scouting staff have done a horrendous job of drafting and scouting for the last 10 years.
  9. Very true but I am hoping Ryan is truely an interim GM and by next draft we have a new GM and a completely overhauled scouting department.
  10. I would be happy trading Frankie for one of the new competitive balance sandwich picks that are tradeable. Get the pick in the bag now before he regresses. This team won't be good for several years and the best way to try to acquire elite pitching is thru the draft.
  11. Agree 100%. There is no way his agent lets him resign with a rebuilding team unless there is a huge overpay. Frankie would be better served taking a year deal with an NL club than coming back to a last place team.
  12. Terry Ryan should've been fired the moment he picked up that option. He could've let him walk and picked up a free sandwich pick. Terry thought a 100 loss team needed a closer more than the pick. Remember when Ryan stated he was going to address the medical staff during his first presser? The great Willingham signing can only buy this clueless GM so much time. Watch him sleep right thru the trade deadline and fail to get prospects for the future.
  13. I think I finally realize that. Seeing his posts you would think the Twins had won a playoff game in the last 5 years, were in 1st place this year and had the best farm system in MLB.
  14. Dicky, Lohse, Humber and Marquis are 4 starters who have improved greatly after getting out from under Gardy/Andy. The fact that you couldn't come up with 1 name of a guy they have helped is telling in itself. I will give them credit for Diamond eventhough he made his adjustments at AAA after being sent down. I see your great medical staff strikes again! Capps to DL and now no trade value. How many times has the putrid medical staff rushed someone back or misdiagnosed an injury in recent years? The ex-Twins should file a class action lawsuit.
  15. I am waiting for your rebuttal when you defend Gardy/Andy's track record in helping pitchers improve and your defense of the Twins medical staff. This should be good!
  16. Gardy/Andy and the medical staff also killed Baker's chances of being a really good MLB pitcher. I would've loved to see what they could've done in another organization.
  17. Here are guys off the top of my head (I'm sure I'll forget someone obvious) who I would rather have than Cain starting the Twins 1 game WC playoff game in 2012: Kershaw, Lee, Halladay, Price, CC, Felix, Verlander, Strausburg, Grienke, Weaver. If I had more time to look at the stats I probably could come up with several more but then comes the next group of 10-30 pitchers that would definitely include Cain. If I had one of the Aces start the Twins WC game I would love to have Cain start game 1 of the ALCS. I would also vote Cain #2 for the CY this year behind RA and he may end up #1 in the end. I don't feel that the last 3 months has made him go from a strong #2 to an ace. I might chance my mind if he keeps this up the rest of the way. It is crazy how he has been able to outperform his peripherals year in and year out but the NL West lineups and the ballpark are HUGE bonuses for him.
  18. He is a good pitcher having a great year. If he were doing this for the Twins Dick n Bert would have him enshrined in the Twins HOF with Diamond after this year. He is a strong #2 with the Hamels, Gallardo, Beckett, Haren, Wilson, and Bumgardners of the world.
  19. Most experts and scouts say there are 10-15 #1's in all of baseball. Turn down the volume when you watch Dick and Bert because they'll try to convince you Pavano is an ace because he gets the ball on opening day and Hamels is a #3 cuz he starts game 3 of the season.
  20. Great post. A few people posting above don't realize how good a #2 or #3 starter is. No way Wimmers had that sort of upside. A #2 starter is a Matt Cain type and a #3 is a Gio Gonzalez or Jon Lester type. The Twins had an ace in Santana but other than that they have had no #2 recently and maybe 1 season each from Baker and Frankie as #3's.
  21. The FG dollar values give credit for position scarcity. Mauer is not a full time Catcher anymore so the dollar figure is heavily inflated. I dont fully understand the calculation but I would guess if he was compared to other 1B/DH types he would be at a 10 mil pace.
