  1. Mauer has no trade value as evidenced by zero waiver claims. A singles hitting DH owed 100 mil will net you at best a Vernon Wells contract in return. Sadly, Blacky is just as likely as Mauer to net a prospect.
  2. TR missed the boat and now Span's trade value is nil. With younger, cheaper, better defenders such as Bourjos, Parra and GoGo availble this offseason via trade why give up anything for Span. Heck, Span has much better OBP than GoGo but that advantage is lost due to caught stealings and pickoffs. I like WAR for the long run but it is worthless in the short run if it says Span is +5. It needs to ind a better way of properly valuing D and accountinf for bonehead plays that cost teams outs.
  3. I respectfully disagree. The med staff was so bad that TR singled them out as a major area that needed improvement when he took the job. Since then, Baker, Pavano, and several minor leaguers have been harmed or ruined due to misdiagnosis. The deal with Span and others is Ryan's inability to understand the DL rule which is something that won't improve until he is replaced.
  4. TR needs to have the balls to let him go. This is the easiest way to get the team in contention soon and may be the last time anyone is dumb enough to claim this albatross contact. Doumit/Butera at catcher and 23 mil towards starting pitching is way better than keeping a 23 mil sindles hitting DH. This may be the only chance they get for a do~over on Billys franchise strangling mistake.
  5. A voice of reason. Diamond is a #5 starter or long man on a contending team and that is their best guy. Without great health from the M & M boys next year this team will challenge the Stros for worst record. The biggest issue is TR is too clueless to realize this team is not close and he failed to cash inall the guys who could've brought back sp prospects that our scouting dept cant seem to find.
  6. If Slama focused more on battling his tail off instead of striking guys out he would be up by now. Gardy and Andy love the Capps/Gray type battlers on their staff.
  7. I am optomistic that Diamond can be a decent #5 for the long haul with possiblitliy of being a #4 or better in stretches. That is much more valuable than anthing Blacky ever was. I just hope the FO learned their lesson from signing Blacky to an extension based on one luck based campaign. Ride out Diamond's cheap years as a usable starting pitcher and if he regresses to what Law sees you just dump him for the next flavor of the month.
  8. Smith should definitely not take all the blame here. IMO, he did a decent job with drafting and an excellent job with the international market (outside of Nishi). Many of the failures we're seeing today were from the mid-2000s when JR was at the helm. There's no denying that or shifting around responsibility for those mistakes, but I think Smith sped things along a bit with his bungling of the Major League franchise at almost every opportunity. The question is "Has Ryan learned from his previous mistakes?" I certainly hope so and I think it's worth finding out if he did learn anything. Teams rarely pick up a new GM and start winning right off the bat. Ryan has the experience and ability to build a winning team, now it's just a matter of time to see if he can do it again. Thus far, I haven't been displeased with how things have played out in many respects but the real test will be this offseason when he has all the time he needs to put the franchise back on track. I understand you are a optomist but it is hard to trust a GM who cant figure out how to use the DL and who wont address the medical staff issues that were a priority when he took the job.
  9. Your schtick is tired. You repeat the same point over and over and over again. We get it. You don't like the front office. Stop repeating the same "argument" (for lack of a better term) to the point of nausea. You're bringing absolutely nothing to the forum with these posts. We're instituting new rules on chronic negativity and you will put yourself at risk of a temporary ban if you keep it up. Go ahead and ban me tough guy. Are you that insecure that if someone disagrees with you on a subject your only reaction is to boot them? It is hard to believe there would be any negativity after 2 straight 99+ loss seasons with no end in site. Why dont you just admit that you are trying to kiss up to the Twins by trying to positively spin every disaster in hopes of getting a job with them or some insider info? If you boot me I'll just go back to the only fair and balanced (non ass kissing) Twins site on the web: aarongleeman.com.
  10. Looks like 100 losses to me. A monkey could draft and develop better than that.
  11. Right. I can't believe anyone is defending Terry Ryan or any other member of the scouting/FO group based on past performance. Sure the Twins were the best of the worst for 5+ years in the central but they have only won 1 more playoff series than the Royals or Pirates in that decade. THe reality is that TR and his clueless scouts spent the last decade slacking off and failing to draft, scout and develop well. That is the main reason the Twins are in this tough spot. The fact they managed to win the worst division in baseball several times only to get embarrassed in the playoffs is nothing to hang your hats on. This team has zero chance of competing until there is an infusion of new blood in the GM Chair, scouting department and medical/training staff.
  12. Terry Ryan, Johnson and all the scouts are guilty of terrible drafting since Mauer. This is the major reasn the Twins have been terrible for 2 years and the outlook is bad going forward. You cant overcome a complete lack of minor league talent in just a year or two. Why TR didnt cash in assets like Span, Willy and others for minor league talent show he doesnt understand the need to build thru the minor leagues. We can only hope TR retires in the offseason so the Twins can bring in a Luhnow or Epstein type mind who knows how to build a winner in modern day baseball.
  13. I dont know that I would classify it as a disaster but more of this is who he is. Dozier is too old to be considered a decent prospect and the org rankings everywhere reflected that. Dozier has a chance to be a fair utility guy at best which has value. Levi Michael is a similar "too old for his level" guy with utility upside but at least the Twins didnt waste a first rounder on Dozier.
  14. He'll still be on the air, he just won't be obligated to butter up the Twins organization at every opportunity. Macky is horrible. Good riddance.
  15. You are crazy unfortunately. Diamond has a decent shot at being average and the rest will need a miracle to be average. If Twins rotation consists of only 1 league average starter and a FA in the Liriano mold we will lose 90 for the 3rd year in a row. Who cares about Mauer? If you ever want to actually win a playoff game you need to endure the pain o blowing this thing up and building thru the minors. Stuck in the middle is the worst place to be.
  16. He was also a Clete Thomas hot streak from not getting a chance this year. A 3 month hot streak does not a good player make. With that said Revere has brains and awareness on the bases Span only wishes he had.
  17. Nope range is the most important but you cant be an elite defender without having great range and a good arm.
  18. Revere has nice range thus the web gem type range but when adding in arm he cant hold Parra or Bourjos's jocks as a defender.
  19. If the Twins think he is a 3 win player they would be crazy to trade him but he is playing way over his head. Scannin MLB and MiLB rosters of potential conteders for 2013 I seel him as being a #4 OF on every team except MIL and CIN. We arent talking about a highly valuable asset here. Parra and Bourjos are two guys who will be on the market who I would much rather have due to their all around defensive ability and offensive game.
  20. I would guess Revere would slot in as a #4 outfielder on most contenders next year and non contenders never give up prospects of any value. I see Reveres value being very minimal in a trade. Heck, the Twins didnt think enough of him to give him a fulltime job this spring so they should deal him for a A ball arm with modest upside as they are playing with house money at this point.
  21. Spot on. Birdwatcher must be a member of the Polad family or he has almost zero grasp of reality. I love the Twins but also call them out when they are failing badly because I want them to get to the top once again.
  22. Nice guy? Check. Soft tosser? Check. Old? Check TR will probably offer a multi year deal.
  23. TR said he was going to address the training and medical staff issues during his first presser last fall but he failed to do so. TR HAD a great track record over 10 years ago but he and his scouting department have done a terrible job of scouting and drafting for the last 10 years.
