  1. It's not a push to "dump" Dozier. It's a push to trade him for something of value. The Twins have a legitimate second base prospect in Jorge Polanco. If you can get a good return for Dozier, then this team should do it. All rebuilds -- and this is still a rebuild -- include a trade of a quality player. The Twins have not done so yet. You could keep Dozier if the return isn't great. But frankly, if this team can't get a good return on an all-star second baseman with pop who can run the bases, fields well and is on a team friendly contract, then I totally give up. But it's not a "dump."
  2. So glad the Twins opted not to trade Trevor Plouffe in the offseason. He's done so much to make his trade value soar this year. /sarcasm I'm guessing, especially with Buxton sitting again today, that they send him down -- even though he has hits in each of his past four games and appears to be improving. Boo.
  3. I'm more curious as to who the Twins will send down to get May on the roster. I'd like to see them keep Rosario up, along with Buxton, and send a relief pitcher down. What I'd really like to see is the Twins send Milone down again with the plan to call up Berrios in a few days ...
  4. Why not just be patient? What's the harm in having him continue to play for a couple of months to see if he figures it out offensively? What's he going to do at AAA? He's blasted AAA pitching when he's been there. If they're going to lose 100 games this year, anyway, there's no problem seeing what an outfield of Rosario, Buxton and Kepler will do.
  5. Because he has defensive value and lots of speed. And, frankly, what do you do if you send him down? Play Rosario in center? You'd definitely lose defensive value, you'd lose speed, and maybe you might capture about 50 points in average. I think Rosario should be on the major league roster at this point, but when your choices are let Buxton learn up here, play Rosario in center or play Danny Santana in center, I think you just swallow hard and keep Buxton. This team, at this point, needs to be patient with its prospects. They're not winning this year - that's the cold, hard reality. Look at the Boston Red Sox ... they're winning with prospects who weren't playing all that well the past couple of years.
  6. Yeah, yuck. Here's what they should do, other than an overhaul of the front office and system (which is, unfortunately, a must). 1. Trade players who might generate a return, like Dozier, Fernando Abad and perhaps Ervin Santana and -- can't believe I'm saying this - Kurt Suzuki. This team needs to collect young assets. Badly. 2. Trade players to open up spots for young players. This is where Santana might come in or, say, Trevor Plouffe. If some players need to be DFA'd, then DFA them. 3. Be patient with the kids. Call up Berrios. Call up Rosario. Call up Polanco. Call up Murphy. Call up Chargois. Run or stumble with them. They're your future. 4. In the offseason, focus any free agent signings or trades on acquiring younger players. I'd kill to see this team engineer a trade like the one that netted the Cubs Anthony Rizzo in 2012. I'd also love to see this team compete more aggressively with international free agents from, say, Cuba. 5. Make food and drinks cheaper at Target Field until this damn team competes and provide us fans with ticket deals. 'Cuz this team is not going to compete for another couple of years at least and you'll need the fans.
  7. It's mid season. The Twins are a very conservative organization. There's no way they would fire anybody mid season. Now, if they keep these guys after the season, it's time to grab the pitchforks. But there's no need to do something right now.
  8. Twins could make room in the bullpen by trading Abad. They'd get something in return and it would be a nice flip for Terry Ryan. All that said, I'd also consider some offseason moves, notably a Brian Dozier trade -- or perhaps by trading Jorge Polanco for another pitching prospect that's nearly major league ready, though I'd prefer a Dozier trade personally. Frankly, I think this team needs a major overhaul during the trade deadline and the offseason. That overhaul probably needs to start in the front office.
  9. He doesn't need it right now. But he will need to be on the roster next year. And while that could very well be a utility player, he has also demonstrated enough in his short time in the majors, and in AAA, that he can hit. Is he guaranteed? Nope. No prospect is. But neither are major leaguers. Plouffe has an OPS of under .700 this year. You can easily wait until the offseason to look for the best possible trade for Dozier. And maybe they can't trade Dozier, but I think they can, and I think the return would be decent. This team is on pace to lose 110 games. They need to look at their veteran assets and see what they can get for them while favoring playing time for younger players. Had the Twins been contending, I'd have used Polanco to fetch some help at the deadline. But they aren't.
  10. You should be able to get SOMETHING for Dozier. He is a former all-star, good on both sides of the ball, can hit for power and has some speed. He is demonstrating an ability to hit to the opposite field as well, which should help him. He has a contract through his arbitration years that should also make him more desirable to teams. I don't quite understand why you couldn't get a good return on that. I would also remind folks that many people said the same thing about Plouffe in the offseason, and so did the Twins front office. The team instead tried to shoehorn Sano into a crowded outfield and look where we are. I'm not saying get rid of Dozier for nothing, but he is exactly the type of player the Twins need to look at trading: A good asset, who could offer a lot to a contending team for the next couple of years. Polanco is in his last option year. He has conquered the minor leagues. He DESERVES a shot at the majors and can no longer be left there. He should also play every day. The Twins can control him for longer than they do Dozier, and they are not contending this year. They are not contending next year. So your choices are to either trade Dozier for prospects to a contending team or trade Polanco in a prospect-for-prospect swap. Trade Dozier. It doesn't have to be now. But this team should absolutely look at trading him this offseason.
  11. Agree. To be perfectly honest, if it were me I would trade three infielders, Plouffe Nunez and Dozier, replacing them with Sano, Polanco and Beresford. And I'd hope to heaven that those three would bring at least something in the form of decent prospects.
  12. Plouffe is a better defender and has a history as a decent middle-of-the-order bat. His price tag is probably the biggest problem right now. The whole problem is that teams just don't trade much for those guys. But I would trade him for something just to balance the roster.
  13. Agree with 100 percent of this. The Twins should be aggressive when it comes to making trades over the next month. They are not contending. They have a very bad roster imbalance and some serious shortages of catchers in the organization, among other pieces. I would probably make for a four-man outfield of Grossman-Buxton-Kepler with Rosario rotating in quite frequently. I'd trade Plouffe sooner and send Park down to get some confidence and play Nunez at third. You could make James Beresford your utility guy and Danny Santana sort of a fifth outfielder/reserve infielder guy.
  14. I'd prefer trading Plouffe over Nunez. Plouffe is injured (again). But I'd trade Plouffe and Dozier. Then I'd have my infield of Sano-Escobar-Jorge Polanco and Mauer.
  15. I thought this was a classy move by Glen. I'm terribly bummed that he got injured, not just because he's a good pitcher, but because he's been great with the fans through social media and on the radio and in newspapers. I wish more athletes would write stuff like this. Here's to hoping you get back to pitching like an all star, Glen.
  16. It's always good when your players play well that should never even be a question. Only issue is how the front office reacts. Plouffe should be traded. You could also make the argument for trading Suzuki. I doubt that neither would fetch a big return, but in Plouffe's case you could open up 3B for Sano and in Suzuki's case you ensure you get a return. Dozier is an interesting question. On the surface he should get some interest. But I doubt that second basemen fetch much in return. But I'd definitely analyze the market to see what he can get, because Jorge Polanco will need to play. Had the Twins been a contender, Polanco could be used as trade bait himself to fetch help down the stretch. But given the team's serious descent into 100-loss hell, the team should look at building the farm system further. And then the rest of the year should be spent developing these young players: Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Sano, Polanco, John Ryan Murphy, JO Berrios, etc.
  17. He's rapidly becoming a non-tender candidate given his price tag. Twins should have absolutely traded him in the offseason.
  18. Why would the Mets trade anything at all for a third baseman who is getting paid $7 million to have an OPS of .626 and a Danny Santana-like WAR of -0.6? They wouldn't. Not when someone like Danny Valencia is on the block.
  19. Two years but that's less than a full season - 120 games -- and after a rookie season in which he had a 3.9 WAR. Again, not arguing in favor of him playing over Arcia or even Buxton or Kepler. But I have no problem with the Twins finding a way to keep him on the roster this year and get him some playing time to see if he can make improvements. He's still young. I would have much, much rather keep Arcia than Santana. But they're both young and the Twins should be looking to emphasize playing time for those guys.
  20. Yes he has. Not disagreeing. But he's young and it's one year. I'm making the same argument about Arcia. Give both a shot as part-time players this year, see what you have, and then make decisions in the offseason.
  21. Buxton, probably. Because unless Buxton starts hitting again, he's the one who gets sent down when Sano comes back. And then you're going to see a whole hell of a lot of Danny Santana. But Molitor will play Danny a lot.
  22. Neither am I, to be perfectly honest. He is rapidly devolving into a non-tender candidate in the offseason -- which is really, really frustrating, given that many people thought the Twins should have traded him last offseason.
  23. Have you watched any Twins games this year? Danny Santana is going to get a lot of playing time. And I don't even have much of a problem with that. He's young. He had an .800-plus OPS his rookie year. Give him a shot to figure it out. I do not think this is an either-or, Santana-Arcia thing. I think there's room on the roster for both.
  24. No. Sano should be playing third -- and he won't be back for two weeks at the very least. I don't know what the heck this team is going to do about Trevor Plouffe and his .636 OPS and his gigantic contract. But it should no longer block Sano at third base. Not at all.
  25. Arcia is definitely not blameless here. Something isn't clicking. But as a fan, I've watched as players like David Ortiz, Carlos Gomez, Danny Valencia, Chris Colabello, Francisco Liriano and JJ Hardy leave for other teams and thrive. I'm tired of it. Given that history, this team deserves zero -- ZERO -- benefit of the doubt when it comes to someone like Arcia. Not one bit. That's why so many people on here are angry. We have a garbage team. And you could field a very, very good team with our castoffs who went and became all stars on other teams.
