    Anyone expecting Buxton to come in after not playing in 3 weeks and suddenly become a hitting machine is fooling themselves. He wasn't hitting before he got hurt, so taking that much time off and expecting him to come out of the gates on fire with the bat is silly. That's why there are articles about whether or not it was a good idea to not send him on a rehab stint. The fact that he wasn't hitting before probably should have been reason enough to send him on a rehab stint. The team needs his defense, but they need his bat to come alive too. I hope that this doesn't come back to hurt Buxton and/or the team.

    Agreed on his stuff. I always thought that his issue was between the ears. He got flustered rather easily and then imploded. The stuff has always been good though.

    I think you better let her get it. If your wife is anything like mine, I'd buy the wrong brand or wrong scent and the whole thing would be ruined. Pretty sure getting the wrong scent would be the end of the world. Discretion is often the better part of valor.

    It's weird how you put a guy that actually gets on base hitting lead off and a guy that's actually hitting in the three hole and a run gets scored. I think Molitor is on to something here!

    It's not too far fetched to believe that the wind would blow the ticket a bit and he'd have to try to step on it multiple times, narrowly missing each time until he finally steps on it only to be seconds too late to catch the train.

    My biggest question besides the pitching is the defense. Can the offense pick it up enough to cover the atrocious defense to go with terrible pitching? I don't think they can even if they're firing on all cylinders. My only hope is that the pitching gets better simply because they know they don't have to shut out the opponent. It would certainly make them more watchable though. That defense though, eesh.

    Great point. It's one thing to carry a Kinley on the roster when you're rebuilding and are trying to find some diamonds in the rough. It's another when you're telling people that you believe that you're contenders. It's a completely different thing to carry a Phil Hughes and essentially refuse to use him when you're struggling as bad as this team is. This FO seems to handicap their manager consistently. That's a troubling sign. At this point in the season, the FO needs to be finding ways to improve a floundering roster and their decision making doesn't seem to reflect that. They have to admit at some point that they made a mistake by not bringing in a 4th outfielder and bring someone up or in. They've admitted that starting Phil Hughes hurts the team. Now they need to admit that keeping him on the roster is hurting the team. This team simply can't afford to be carrying dead roster spots. You can't win playoff spots in April/May, but you can certainly lose them.

    I agree, however taking your best starter (even on an off day) after 60 pitches simply exposes the worst part of the staff. I agree that it's pretty much a lose-lose scenario and the problems are far beyond Molitor's managing. He does contribute to those problems though.

    I have much more hope that the offense can start clicking than the pitching. That said, more runs scored should have the pitching at least psychologically. The troubling thing that I see with the bats is the number of poor AB's that are put up, especially in key spots. As long as that continues, I don't see this offense clicking with any sort of consistency. While I believe that the last month is more than a slump, things should at least get better. It's more of a matter of how much better in my view.

    They blew three separate 4 run leads in the first Reds game. Not only does no lead seem safe with this team, but they've shown that they're not even capable of building on leads consistently. Too many poor and/or wasted AB's to string hits together.

    Man this team is in trouble. It's May now. Time to start making real roster adjustments. Bring up a guy who can actually field his position to play RF while Buxton is out. The defense is killing the pitchers even more than the pitchers are killing themselves. I'm not advocating changes for the sake of making changes, but something needs to be done with the bullpen and the bench. Clearly what is currently in play is not working. This is getting ridiculous. They're unwatchable right now.

    Always one of my favorites. One of the few players that I'd stop and watch an AB if I had a game on in the background. And I'll never forget his laser to 3B to nail Terrance Long going first to third. I tip my cap, Ichiro. It was a pleasure watching you play!

    The Rays and Reds were supposed to be that way too... I'm hopeful though. Maybe yesterday's game gave them a little more pep in their step.
