    "For those not familiar with it, Ruddigore (the Witches Curse) is Gilbert and Sullivan's parody of melodrama. If you have nothing better to do in the 4 hours before the game starts, go and watch a youtube version of it. It has a bad baronet, a haunting picture galory, and the epitomy of patter songs with the final line "this particularly rapid unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter"." I might have, had you not just ruined the ending!

    I see this as a two part question. Can he be a reliable option in the backend of the bullpen? I'm not convinced either way. Perhaps the bigger question is this though; are there better, more reliable options there? I don't know that there are. At least right now. So, it's sort of a case of he's basically got to be one way or another until Rocco is able to find someone that is. And they need more than just one reliable arm for late game situations, so it becomes a circular argument. Not a confidence instilling scenario.

    The money grubbing that professional sports get into is getting even more ridiculously ridiculous with this. Pro golfers and their walking billboards are a bit different in that they don't make a salary in the first place, so it's another means for them to make money. But even there I have my limits. That isn't the case for team sports. Jerseys used to be about the team. It's getting to be just another chunk of real estate to plaster another ad on, just like at the ballparks. It gets old to constantly get bombarded with it all.

    This game is a pretty good example of how thin this team's margin for success really is. Going scoreless in the 3rd ended up being a pretty big deal. Getting at least one run plated in that inning likely sends this game into extra innings. Plating two, as probably should have been the case, would have won it.

    Nice to see Canterino have a better outing this trip. Early season starts are always interesting to see how a guy bounces back. I had completely forgotten about Raya. I don't think the name even registered in my brain last week when I saw it. Time to pay more attention, I guess!

    I think there's something to the notion that Rocco will need time to figure out how to use his bullpen pieces, but that shouldn't be the case with a guy like Duffey, who isn't a new piece. And as @ashbury pointed out, a clean inning is a unicorn for this pen. That trend alone doesn't give me many warm fuzzies as the season wears on, and especially as injuries start to take their inevitable toll.
