I don't know about most people, but as a season ticket holder, I can tell you that I went from eating/drinking at nearly every game while at the Dome to where I don't buy anything at TF now unless I don't have much of a choice. I flat out refuse to pay the insane prices inside the ballpark. I also think that's a shame because they do have a lot to offer for food and drink, just not at the prices they charge.

Me too! I know that I can save my money upfront instead of wishing I had after the fact.

I'm as irritated as anyone about the bullpen, but I've got mad respect for a threat like that!

Good to see a solid all around game from the squad. My hope is that once they get on a more regular schedule and Rocco settles in to his new role that the team stabilizes. While the bullpen still scares the hell out of me (in a bad way), I'm hoping that there is some organic improvement once Rocco knows what he's got and where they excel. Even then though, I foresee plenty more of what's played out over the last couple of games.

Article: TOR 6, MIN 5: Gut Punch

Correct. I can see two, maybe even three under certain circumstances, but not all of them at the same time. You've got to give yourself a chance offensively.- 50 replies

I like that Rocco is rotating guys pretty regularly. I don't like how he tends to rotate all of his bench players in for the same game like it was a line change in hockey. Gotta leave some horses in to carry the load.- 50 replies

Article: TOR 5, MIN 3: About That Bullpen ...
wsnydes replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have to agree. Even when you're right, you're still wrong. I remember the last time that I was "right". We were debating about a paint color in our master bath. I insisted that she wasn't going to like the shade of blue that she chose. She believed that she would, so that's what we went with. We got done painting it, she even slept on it over night, and then the next morning admitted to me that I was right - she didn't like the color. My reward was having to repaint the bathroom by myself.- 69 replies

Article: Week in Review: Short But Sweet
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The flip side of this is that southern teams could also play fewer games at home when it's 95+ and humid. Ultimately, I think it's a balancing act. I'm sure that most teams do actually want early home games to capitalize on the new season's optimism. Where a team like the Twins fail is that they have a prolonged period where they haven't been very good. While the cold weather does act as a deterrent, it's not as though this team has drawn well even when the weather does improve. If the team was good, people would still come out to the ballpark regardless of the weather. -
Article: Unlocking Eddie Rosario
wsnydes replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No doubt. That's what makes him a bit of an enigma. The part of his game that drives me nuts sometimes is his lack of situational awareness. Even generally speaking, I don't mind that he's swinging out of the zone if it's something that he can drive. I don't think that's case late last night. In a late game AB like last night, he's got to look for something to drive or find a way to get on base. It didn't look like that was his mindset at all.- 9 replies

Article: Hello? Rochester... Please Send Help
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With all due respect Nick, this doesn't have to be the team we run with. It was last night, that is true. But it doesn't have to remain that way. There are ways to improve it. Just like there was during the offseason. It's not as though this issue popped up just last night.- 96 replies

Because what you meant to say and what I interpreted what you typed are very different things. But I was agreeing with your greater point. While I agree that they need to do a better job of developing young players, it most definitely is a problem, it's not true that they haven't developed impact players. That is what I was trying to show you. I included the FAs for comparisons sake. It's not like every ASG rep was brought in from outside the organization. Perkins was a 3-time all-star (and a really good closer) in that period. Dozier was most certainly an impact player. Berrios is most certainly a impact player. You asked what players developed in the Twins system had been to the ASG since 2006 aside from Sano, and I answered your question. Could and should there be more? Absolutely. The fact that there's not is why the team has been treading water for a decade. But to say that Sano is the only one to come up and make and impact or represent the team in the ASG is false. They do, however, need to do better and that's really the only way that this team is going to get better.

I wasn't trying to argue, calm down. I was even more or less agreeing with you. It's reasonable to interpret that statement the way I did. This is a baseball forum, not a courtroom. That may be what you were trying to say, but that's not how I interpreted this: "Aside from Sano where is are players who came through our system since 2006 ended who has been in an ASG?It's abysmal. It is embarrassing." That said, the answer to your rhetorical question is Dozier and Berrios, but Perkins was a rookie in 2006. It's still an issue, but not nearly as dire as you're making it to out be.

Honestly, I'm not convinced that's an issue yet. He hasn't shown that he can be a cornerstone player, so that might be irrelevant. It's entirely possible that the FO will have moved on by that point. It's also entirely possible that he reaches his potential and has had his contract extended by that point. That's kind of the meat grinder that this FO is in. The cornerstones haven't emerged and they haven't brought in anyone that can be built around. Some of that is their own fault, some of it they've inherited some of it is tough luck.

I realize that this isn't really your point, but the ASG representatives from this team has been dominated by homegrown players. Italicized names are non-homegrown players. 2007 - Johan, Morneau, Torii 2008 - Nathan, Morneau, Mauer 2009 - Nathan, Morneau, Mauer 2010 - Morneau, Mauer, 2011 - Cuddy 2012 - Mauer 2013 - Perkins, Mauer 2014 - Suzuki, Perkins 2015 - Perkins, Dozier 2016 - Nunez 2017 - Santana, Sano, Kintzler 2018 - Berrios All that said, it's always the same names on that list and it's probably partially aided by the fact that each team has to be represented. And more to your point, the fact that they've been largely unable to build around anyone since the Mauer/Morneau heyday is, and has been, an issue.

Especially when those two players have had mostly, shall we say, disappointing results thus far. In both cases, we've seen flashes but neither has really put together a full season of performance worthy of building a plan hinging around their performance.

I'm pretty frustrated with how the last two offseason's have gone. The lack of long term commitment is confusing and frustrating on its own. One thing that I do firmly believe is that ownership has told the FO that they are willing to be patient with a ground up rebuild of not just the roster, but the organization as a whole. That is going to take time. That part I'm on board with. However, I do think that this front office, as well as the preceding one, built themselves into a corner in which it will be difficult to get out of. Some of it has to do with the floundering core of Sano and Buxton. Those two were the linchpins of a resurgent franchise. That hasn't panned out thus far and it appears as though the FO is setting themselves up to completely blow it up or pounce should it actually all come together. There is some wisdom to that approach, except in my view, it seems like they're betting against themselves. The lack of long term investments (financial or otherwise) in players outside of the organization does nothing to solidify any position and provides you nothing to build around. It would seem that they're kicking the same problems down the road which turns into a never ending cycle of mediocrity. It's one thing to wait a bit for the ground up turnover to start making an impact, but doing nothing at the top side to provide any sort of trickle down positive impact is stunting the growth of the franchise in my view. It also does nothing to inspire fans to spend money on the team or come to the ballpark. So by the time this thing gets turned around, there may not be many left around that will actually notice or care. I'm not asking them to go out and buy a new lineup, I'm simply looking for an impact move that can be built upon.

Article: BREAKING: Nelson Cruz Agrees To Deal With Twins
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't decide how to feel about this. On one hand, he's a much needed true middle of the order bat they need. On the other, he effectively blocks a DH rotation to get younger guys like Garver and Austin ABs. I'm hoping Austin actually wins the 1B job so that's less of an issue. All in all, Cruz does make the order better, which I am happy about. Trying to figure out how the pieces fit is a much better scenario than not having the pieces to begin with. -
Article: What if This is the Max for Kepler?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nowhere in the article does it state that Kepler ignored Bonds. Your emphasis is Rowson describing Bonds' approach and what they, being Kepler and Rowson, are trying to emmulate. Again, we have very different interpretations of this article. I do not see anything that suggests Kepler not listening or being uncoachable. He's the one that sought out Bonds. Rowson is only trying to expand on that. That sure seems an awful lot like being coached. It may or may not be helping, but he's certainly not fighting it like you are suggesting. -
Article: What if This is the Max for Kepler?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually, this is literally what the article says... "Kepler had just come off the Bonds Sessions when he met Rowson last spring. Rather than roll back anything the controversial ex-slugger might have given Kepler, Rowson has sought to expand on that knowledge. “I think you’ve got to build on the things the guy has done,” Rowson said. “Barry Bonds was short and direct to the baseball. That’s what Kepler wants to be. He wants to be short to it, long through it. He’s getting the feel of a good, short, direct swing path.”" We have very different interpretations of this apparently. I don't see anything about Kepler doing his own thing there. I see Rowson taking what Kepler got from Bonds and trying to expand on it. That's what coaching is. -
Article: What if This is the Max for Kepler?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting articles, both of which I've seen. I don't really see how either suggests that he's not coachable or isn't working/listening to his coaches. It's possible that this is just who he is. That doesn't mean that he's not coachable. For many players, getting the right message in the right manner means everything. The new staff could come in and work wonders with him. We don't know how that will play out yet.
