  1. Thanks for checking into that. Those are interesting findings.
  2. ...and he really gets after it! On a serious note, this is quite disturbing. As a reliever, you are often pitching with the game on the line and runners on so sometime you cannot even afford to give up a flyball out. You have got to be able to miss bats when it counts.
  3. Mauer did look upset on his way back to the dugout. I am going to the game tonight and I expect he will come out with something to prove. I enjoyed your analysis. After reading this, I got to thinking about the following question. I wonder what Mauer's career numbers with RISP would show when you factor the score of the game and inning into the equation. For example, do the numbers hold when he comes up with RISP in a close game in the 7th inning or later? I don't know these stats off the top of my head, but I am guessing his average is still good but maybe not quite as great as his overall batting average with RISP. I love Mauer and always have so I am excited to see him healthy and producing.
  4. Some people hide their pregnancies pretty well:p
  5. That is a sizable drop off and I have to think it will go back up as he pitches more innings over the course of the season.
  6. We might be freaks but us lefties are the coolest people you will ever meet.
  7. I am really encouraged by the poise that Hendriks shows on the mound. He seems to understand how to pitch. I see him being a solid contributor for years to come. I just don't know what else can be said about Liriano right now.
  8. It is an extremely awkward throw and would lead to many normally close outs turning into guys being safe. I don't recall the last time a left handed thrower has played 3B, SS, 2B, or C at the professional level other than as an emergency fill-in.
  9. That roar you speak of outside of the stadium is a great thing. On the one hand you're pissed that you left early and missed something, but on the other hand you know something good just happened and can't wait to get home to see the highlights.
  10. Definitely too much of a log jam of people who need at bats at DH to consider a guy who would not play in the field.
  11. I think if you are going to heckle you should at least have some intelligent material prepared ahead time. The whole "you suck" thing just makes you look like a moron.
  12. You could tell Mauer was very frustrated he didn't get the run in on the way back to the dugout. I myself am frustrated he didn't get the run in, but he worked the count full and in a lot cases you're going to get a better pitch to hit and a vintage Mauer base hit. Tonight it wasn't to be. I am honestly more frustrated with Doumit's at bat popping out on the first pitch and it wasn't a great pitch to hit.
  13. I agree. I think a good chunck of his control issues are from too many layers of thinking that come with starting pitching. As a reliever, you know you are going out there to get a couple of guys or maybe pitch an inning or two at the most. That takes a lot of thinking out of the equation and allows you to just go after hitters. Correct me if I am wrong, but a lot of failed starters have found a nitch in the bullpen.
  14. That doesn't sound like a fair fight. I had not heard of the kestrel being seen in quite some time.
  15. I could get on board with a lineup like this. I do agree that in this scenario Benson needs to be in LF. You could also potentially have Mauer at first and Parmalee in right.
  16. I felt it was questionable leaving Marquis in for the 6th and absolutely the wrong decision to let him go out for the 7th. The bottom of the 8th was incredibly frustrating. The breaking ball Mauer grounded out on was a good one. The ball Willingham hit was smoked, and Doumit popped out on a first pitch fastball up and away. The ball that Ross hit in the 9th was a low and away fastball and I can't believe he was able to hit that out to the opposite field.
  17. Congratulations to Josh on his new addition to the family. Hopefully he picks up where he left off when he gets back!
  18. When you get banned like the orginal VodkaDave did, are you going to come back as the Ghost of VodkaDave Past? Seriously, I think you need to stick to apple juice and lay off the vodka.
  19. That is hilarious and probably incredibly painful!
  20. I agree 100% about leaving Marquis in the game. If you're Gardy, you had to be happy with what you got from him through 5 innings and thrilled with what he gave you through 6 innings. It was only his second start of the year and he was clearly tiring, so bringing him out for the 7th was playing with fire. I was watching the game on MLB.com's Gameday and thought it had to be a misprint that he was still in the game!
  21. Interesting post. I like hearing about the daily life of minor leaguers. They certainly don't cater to you guys like they do the big leaguers. Good luck on the rest of your season!
  22. Good to see Tom Kelly in the booth tonight. I appreciate his honest analysis and willingness to call it like he sees it!
  23. These are some intriguing possibilities. However, I would definitely not want to trade Dozier. I am excited to see what we have in him some time this year.
  24. Could definitely be a football score tonight...
  25. Sad to see Willingham's hitting streak come to an end, but it was bound to happen. It is just great to see our key offseason acquisition off to such a great start!
