  1. I don't think that is necessarily the case. I think there are your casual fans whose absence in the stands and lack of time spent otherwise following the team will be noticeable when things aren't going well. But as least for the Twins, Vikings, and Wild I think there is a very solid base of die hard fans that are in it for the long haul. I am very happy about the Timberwolves success this year. However, I think they would be the one franchise in the Twin Cities where the bandwagon argument would be most applicable. After they stopped making the playoffs and Garnett left, they were almost completely abandoned by the entire fan base. Hopefully, the energy that Love and Rubio have injected into the franchise will get the fan base back to where it needs to be for years to come!
  2. I tend to agree that we didn't do enough to address the pitching staff, but I am willing to see how things play out before passing judgment. I am intrigued by guys like Doyle, Gutierrez, Oliveros, Hendriks, etc. and am hoping that some of these guys can take the next step.
  3. I agree. Just because most of our top prospects are in the lower levels of the minors, doesn't we don't have talent at the upper levels. Plus, you never know when a prospect that is projected to have a lower ceiling may step up and surprise us. That is part of the beauty of this game.
  4. Sounds like quite the busy first day!!
  5. Mine would have to be his two-game performance at Milwaukee in 1987.
  6. Good luck with the upcoming season!
  7. I am a first-time season ticket holder. I have a 20-game package, plan C, in section 231.
  8. I have been to games at Coors Field in 1996 and Wrigley Field in 2009. I have been to Twins games at Comerica Park in 2010 and Miller Park in 2011. I am planning to go watch them play at Kaufmann Stadium this summer.
  9. That's sad to hear. Hopefully he went peacefully.
  10. That box score is from a very significant game in Twins history!
  11. Fenway Park, Camden Yards, and AT&T.
  12. For me it would be Wrigley. Very historical and love the neighborhood.
  13. However he goes about doing it, developing his bunting skills is a must for Revere. With his kind of speed, you don't even need to drop down a perfect bunt in order to beat it out. His value as an offensive player is so dependent on having a high OBP, this needs to really be a focus for him.
  14. I agree that overall he has done a good job so far given the salary constraints that have been put on him. I think it is going to take some tough, sometimes unpopular decisions to overcome the mess that we have created over the past couple of years. I believe we need to let things play out before passing judgment on Ryan.
  15. You do have to feel for the guy. If he does decide to retire, hopefully he has been conservative with his money over the years.
  16. Great analysis. I would also like to mention the possibility for in-season moves if things are going reasonably well. That could lead to some runs created and/or runs prevented.
  17. This has to be extremely frustrating for Zumaya. Hopefully it is nothing serious. This could be a tough break for a guy that has been struggling for so long to get his career back on track. You gotta feel for the guy.
  18. I am hoping it is nothing serious. But if he is going to get injured, it would be better if it happened now.
  19. Great points. Couldn't agree with you more. The integrity of the game is important but being a good citizen is what truly counts!
  20. I can see the similarities between the 2008 Twins and this group. I think this year's squad needs to play with a chip on its shoulder and like it has something to prove. They don't need to break bats and throw water jugs, but a nice quiet fire in the belly would be great to see.
  21. I have been extremely impressed with the site as well. So far, I have seen nothing but intelligent, constructive conversation.
  22. I agree with you that two catchers should be the route we go. I just don't think we can justify having Butera take up a bench spot for another year. Plus, you could always have someone else dabble with the position as an emergencies-only third catcher just in case Gardy's nightmare ever comes true. On a side note, I am getting so sick of this personal catcher stuff with Pavano. If you are going to demand a personal catcher, then you better dang well be one of the top pitchers in the game. Pavano's performance does not justify having a catcher who otherwise doesn't belong in the major leagues being on the roster. That's just my two cents.
  23. I think whenever you have a player who has won multiple batting titles and an MVP award who has also had some injuries, health will always a concern. So yes, I am concerned about Mauer's health going into the season and probably always will be. However, I am much more concerned about Morneau. I so hope he can overcome this and get at least somewhere in the vicinity of his former production.
  24. It doesn't appear that the Twins could genuinely challenge the Tigers for the division. However, a lot of times these teams that look dominant on paper don't end of putting things together on the field due to injuries, under-performing players, or lack of chemistry. One great example of this would be the Philadelphia Eagles from this past season. I know this is a different sport, but on paper the Eagles were supposed to go to the Super Bowl this year. I am not saying the Twins are going to win the division but it is quite possible we are going to look back on this season and say the Tigers didn't live up to expectations.
  25. I am going to guess 19. Obviously I think most of those will come on the road, but I think he will have a fire lit under him and if he is healthy I think he will have a great season. More importantly, I look for him to have at least 40 doubles.
