  1. Nice work by Liriano to get the strikeout. Should Gardenhire send him back out for the 6th inning with 92 pitches already, or save his arm?
  2. Yes, I was just thinking the same thing. And it would be wise to get a reliever ready.
  3. Nice double play, but Carroll is lucky that it was not Swisher coming at him -- Swisher might have broken Carroll's leg on that one.
  4. And Mauer strikes out looking on a pitch that pitchtrax shows was slightly outside. This ump hurting us.
  5. That is a very fun fact. I just wish Plouffe would hit more home runs against righties and with men on base.
  6. At least he limited the damage to one run. But 73 pitches in 4 innings suggests that he will not make it past the 5th or 6th inning. I am glad that the bullpen has had some rest.
  7. You were indeed close. Now please predict whether Liriano can get out of this inning without any runs.
  8. This seems to confirm that Plouffe is a lot less productive with men on base.
  9. Valencia has been having some 2 home run games in Rochester, so maybe people will start arguing if Valencia stays hot and Plouffe cools down. Or maybe Valencia can be traded for pitching.
  10. That seems like a fair point. Does anyone have a stat about how often Plouffe bats with men on base compared with the league average?
  11. He looks a bit wild today. At this pace he may only be able to go 6 innings.
  12. Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that Plouffe would be on track for 35+ homers?
  13. Let's hope not. Today he is allowing Mauer and Doumit to get some needed rest after yesterday's doubleheader.
  14. I hope that Thome terrorizes the Yankees and Red Sox.
  15. I just read on the Twins official website that DeVries has been sent back to Rochester. I don't understand how he did not earn a rotation spot tonight.
  16. I would like to see DeVries replace Blackburn in the rotation, and if possible let Blackburn work on his issues in AAA. It seems at least possible that Blackburn could make a comeback.
  17. I was frustrated by what seemed like a lack of preparation and effort last year. I also would like to see Joe take more of a leadership role. But I have never been a hater.
  18. i think that this is a close call. Mauer has a much higher batting average and is a better defender. But Willingham has many more home runs and RBIs. I would prefer to see Willingham go, because Mauer has been before. Also, I would like Mauer to have an incentive to work hard to make NEXT year's all star team.
  19. Nice work by Plouffe and Mastro. DeVries deserves this win. And the Royals need to go back to the cellar where they belong.
  20. I think it does matter. If Blackburn can recover his sinkerball mojo, then he can again be a very good starter. It would be sickening to release him then watch him go to the Yankees or White Sox and do well while the Twins are still paying him. I would rather try to send him down, or failing that, persuade him to go on the DL. Maybe the training staff can be asked to help him by bleeding him with leeches, in which case he might legitimately need to go on the DL.
  21. If not, then maybe another stint on the DL would be possible. He sure pitches like he is injured in some fashion.
  22. Are you certain that he has an option left? I thought that some people replied that he does not.
  23. DeVries is not a premium pitcher, but he seems to have better stuff at this point than Blackburn, and it would seem appropriate to let him fill a starter slot to see what he can accomplish.
