  1. I would not be against the Twins going after Gausman. He's profiling as a #2/potential #1 starter. He apparently has been much more effective since switching his out pitch from a curve ball to a slider. His change up is supposed to be good as well. I would not be disappointed with that pick. A case could be made that he was the BPA, and fills an organizational need.
  2. I thought is was a very encouraging game. Dozier was playing some pretty good defense. Let's hope he keeps that up. I didn't see him play on Monday, so this was the first chance I had to see him in action. He seems to have a pretty strong arm as well. Diamond pitched a good game. Let's hope he keeps that up as well.
  3. That was my thought as well. It would be an interesting study. It just seems to me that baseball people tend to make training decisions based on things that might have some sort of logic behind them, but no hard data (such as long toss = more pitching injuries, have a pitch count to make sure your starters stay fresh). And for the record, I'm doing the same thing by making this claim, because I don't have any real data to back it up.
  4. Dozier's first start against Weaver... that could be rough. Let's hope not.
  5. Interesting article. Unfortunately, the article doesn't say which teams actually use the long toss. I also have no idea about how the Twins organization feels about it though.
  6. In his 7th professional season and at the age of 25, Pedro Florimon will head to AAA for the first time in his career. The Twins announced today that he is heading to Rochester to take Brian Dozier's old spot at SS. He has a line of .283/.347/.372 with 4 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI and 7 SB for New Britain. Good Luck in Rochester, Pedro!
  7. I hope Benson can turn it around. I'm glad to see that they are rewarding Florimon for his great start.
  8. I figured that he meant early. I'm not against the idea of trying to get something going with a bunt here or there. I agree, the message looked like it did get a little mixed up near the end.
  9. Bunting to break up a no-hitter is in bad form. Unwritten rule of baseball.
  10. Agreed. I don't know what to think when baseball-reference lists him as a pinch hitter first. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/komater01.shtml?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker On a positive note, we don't have to deal with Clete Thomas anymore.
  11. Gardy had an interview on ESPN 1500 today. He even hinted at some changes: http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Gardenhire_hints_at_possible_changes_We_cant_continue_like_this050412
  12. That is kind of what I was thinking as well. Moving to Fargo would be a good way to keep the ND fanbase connected to the Twins as well. ND has all that new oil money now, you think it wouldn't be too hard to get some money for a AAA team and maybe a new ballpark or something.
  13. Exactly. Also, one of the reasons the Nationals were able to draft so many good players is because since the year of their creation (2005, and yes, I am excluding the years in Montreal), they have yet to have a winning season. That has given them great draft positions for years, and it looks like it is just now starting to come together. The Twins and the Nats are in different situations. As far as draft strategy goes, if there were someone like Strassburg, or Harper available to the Twins at the #2 pick, I have enough faith in the FO that they would pick them up. I haven't seen reports of anyone like that in this years draft.
  14. Well said. Perfect example of this: Mike Piazza was selected with 1390th pick in the 62nd round of the draft in 1988. How did no one else select him until then? Everyone else must have been idiots for passing him by, right? There are going to be first round picks that never make it and there are going to be later picks that turn out to be superstars. MLB draft is a crapshoot. Yes, I know scouting should help find better potential player, but they don't always pan out and there are always guys that perform much better than the potential assigned to them by the scouts.
  15. I like the idea of Molitor as the hitting coach in theory, but He has tried being a hitting coach before (in Seatle) and that experiment only lasted a year. I'm not sure about the details of the whole situation though.
  16. Unless they can somehow convince a AAA Club to move some place like Madison. And there should be enough college students there to support a team during the summer months... maybe? Tough to say. Just a random thought. It might be a tough thing to do though. There is a team called the Madison Mallards that play in the Northwoods League, which apparently is a college league. I'd have to look into it more to find out all the facts, but that would nice to have another Twins minor league team that close.
  17. You're right that he probably could handle 2B as well, but he does not have much experience playing there. He has only played two games at 2B during his entire professional career. One game in 2011 and one in 2008. He has played exclusively at SS for New Britain. I have seen write ups of Florimon that say he projects as a utility player. If that is the case, and that is how the Twins plan on using him, I would expect that you would start seeing him play some 2B here shortly.
  18. Florimon is now up to 100 PA (87 AB). He is currently has a line .287/.361/.391. He has added one double over the last week, but no more HR's. He sitting at 25 hits. He did have a multi-hit game (2 singles) in last night's long win (1-0) over Harrisburg, where he scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the 12th inning. He also committed his first error of the season, dropping his fielding % down to a still respectable .992. Florimonster (I'm hoping that name catches on) is also 5 for 6 in stolen base attempts. So far, he is holding his own in the AA level.
  19. Maybe they are getting rid of Clete??? Let's hope that is the case and not Morneau to the DL.
  20. I could see Mauer making a pinch hit appearance once Wilson is out of the game. He may even stay in to play 1B, but there would probably end up being some sort of defensive substitution as well... I don't see Gardy pinch hitting Mauer for Parmelee. Maybe for Casilla if the game is close near then end.
  21. Inside. If he can get a triple while tripping over himself, he can get an inside the park home run. Also, I've never seen him hit a line drive that even hit the wall. I don't see him hitting one that goes over the wall. And if he did, it almost certainly would not be at Target Field.
  22. He's not going to be that hard to sign. If he's picked #2, there's pretty much no way that he'll do better than that next year. As far as signing bonuses go, he is probably not going to get much more than the slot value, especially with the new CBA. The Twins have the largest amount of money for signing bonuses this year, but we also have a ton of high picks, so we're not going to blow it all on our first pick. It doesn't matter who the agent is.
  23. Just because a team wouldn't get compensation for Liriano signing with another team wouldn't mean a team wouldn't trade for him. They wouldn't trade for him because he looks awful right now. Or, they just wouldn't give the Twins much in return for him.
  24. That is what I assumed. I was hoping someone would make the pun and say "nice catch". Too bad.
  25. I have heard about this before. I believe they even mention it in Moneybal (the book, not the movie). I don't know if all teams were following slot recommendations at that time either. So it is possible that the Rockies skipped over him because they knew he wouldn't sign for any below the slot recommendation. There may have been other things in play then.
