Tyler Watson from the Nationals makes a lot of sense even though he's a little further away. As someone else mentioned somewhere, the Twins are going to have to make some difficult 40 man decisions this off-season. Plus part of building the pitching pipeline means adding guys for 2020. Watson looks to be trending up. How about Kintzler for LHP Tyler Watson (#17 mlb) and OF Rafael Bautista (#13 mlb; RH hitting MLB-ready 4th outfielder)?

I'd set the over/under on number of trades today at 1.5 Kintzler will get traded for best offer. I think Santana is next likely to get traded. I think the Yankees will get Gray, but I don't think the Dodgers will give up Buehler or Verdugo for Darvish and Texas will ultimately hold onto him. There could be a potential fit there since the Dodgers have such a deep farm system and I could see a deal being made that doesn't include their top 5 prospects. Mariners have talked to Twins about Santana too, but their farm system doesn't match up well with what the FO seems to want back. Astros are in it too. Maybe even Royals. It ultimately depends on if a team will get desperate and meet the FO's minimum return. If not, the smart move is to hang onto him. Escobar, Belisle, Gimenez could all be moved too. Seems most likely that Dozier is moved in the offseason. Maybe even another trade in the style of JRM for Moya. (Park to someone?) I think I'd take the over. Kintzler and then either a Santana trade or a more minor trade.

Anyone else think that Santana to the Astros for a package around David Paulino could make a lot of sense? 23-year-old starter with a 92-98 mph fastball and a plus curve. He was a consensus top 100 prospect before testing positive for PEDs earlier this month. BA had him #51, for example. This seems like a good time to buy low on a guy and get someone who's a good bet to replace Santana's production in the rotation right away next season. Maybe something like: RHP David Paulino (org rank #8) 3B J.D. Davis (org rank #15 - in AAA, blocked in system. Can play 1B too. Twins need RH bat) RHP Jorge Alcala (org rank #26 - starting pitcher in A+, potential #3 starter, lottery ticket type)- 67 replies

Ynoa's scouting report suggested that if everything went right he would be a back-of-the-rotation starter in 4-5 years. Littell profiles as a #4 and could debut in the majors next year. Plus Littell fits in with the Romero & Gonsalves time frame really well. If Falvey and Levine are really considering 2019-2022 as the big winning window, then I like that they're targeting guys who can be a part of that. I really like this move.- 67 replies

I wonder if the Twins could get a prospect in the range of Ynoa for Santiago if they agreed to pay the rest of his contact. If the Twins were able to send a "lesser" prospect to the Braves for eating the rest of García's salary, then you'd have to think it could work to their benefit the other way around, too. Probably not a true lottery ticket like Ynoa (low floor, high ceiling, high risk, etc.) but maybe a higher floor, lower ceiling guy like the Twins equivalent of an Aaron Slegers. Maybe even the Angels (who are just 1 game back of the Twins in the WC race) would be interested in getting him back. LHP Hector Santiago to LAA for RHP Jake Jewell - Twins paying some portion of the rest of Santiago's salary. MLB has Jewell as the #24 ranked prospect in Angels system (a bad system). The scouting report suggests he needs a fresh start after being knocked around in 2016. He a 24 year old starting pitcher at AA with good numbers at A+ and poor ones (so far) at AA. So, his stock has recently dropped, but if he bounces back he's interesting. Who says no? Maybe this is the right kind of move for the Twins to make with Santiago. They have to pay him anyway. There's no spot for him on the roster. He's a free agent after this season. Might as well try and get something back?

Article: BREAKING: Twins Acquire Garcia From Braves
olivia11 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Recker move/Haley DFA is just to call up Garver, then I really don't get it. If the Twins want to call up Garver, they can call up Rohlfing to back up Murphy at AAA. Then either keep the promotion train going or sign or trade for a catcher who isn't on the 40 man. Falvey and Levine have talked about how valuable 40 man roster spots are - and right now they have 5 catchers on it - so this just feels totally strange to me. (Unless, of course, there's a trade happening.) -
If this is true, it seems like it was someone that Falvey and Levine don't have any confidence in and they're trying to get something for them before their value drops. Stewart or Thorpe would make sense... especially since they were looking to get a prospect back and Atlanta was eating part of the salary.

Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
olivia11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Notable position players not in yesterday's minor league lineups. AAA: John Ryan Murphy, Edgar Corcino AA: Travis Harrison A+: Luis Arraez (DL) A: Amaurys Minier R: Kolton Kendrick, Akil Baddoo I think Baddoo was promoted yesterday so that could explain why he was out. But, overall, all the top position player prospects played yesterday. Maybe it's a pitcher? Or maybe it's not as common to not play a position player who might get traded? (injury risk lower?) -

Article: Deadline Primer: Are Twins Buyers Or Sellers?
olivia11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm all for moving Dozier, Santana, Kintzler for the right deal. But, is Dozier even tradable at this point? I'm qualifying "tradable" as where the projected value coming in would potentially exceed Dozier's value to the Twins over the next two years (and/or the chance that he has a crazy second half and can be moved over the off-season for a better package). So, serious question. If Dozier for De Leon straight up (or pretty much straight up) wasn't enough, is there a team out there that is a 2nd baseman away from the playoffs who will give up more than De Leon? I don't think I'd trade him for less than a top 100 prospect plus taking a flyer on at least one intriguing player (someone like a Lewin Diaz or a Jermaine Palacios in the Twins system). Is there a team out there who would offer that right now? -

Article: Twins Throw Curveball With Draft Strategy
olivia11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You'd gotta think that Enlow immediately cracks the Twins top 10 prospects. A 1-5 group of Lewis, Gordon, Romero, Gonsalves, Kiriloff (not necessarily in that order) followed by 6-10 of Enlow, Jay, Díaz, Mejía, and your favorite of of Stewart/Blankenhorn/Wade (again not in that order) really improves this top 10. I'd also think Rooker would fit in the 10-15 range (something like Palka's floor, more ceiling). De La Torre, Bechtold, and Barnes are probably in the 20-35 range, too. That sounds like a good strategy to me! -

Article: Winter Meetings Are Over. Now What?
olivia11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think getting De Leon and Alvarez is almost as good as getting Urias and it means the Twins don't have to give up any other prospects. De Leon is like a slightly better Jose Berrios and can help the rotation now. Alvarez has as much upside as any top pitching prospect and could very well turn into a Julio Urias. Plus, having both Alvarez and Romero coming up at the same time in the system could make for an impressive 1-2 in a couple years. Getting both prospects also provides a little insurance in case one or both don't quite reach their ceiling. Based on his insane signing bonus, Alvarez was also someone that was basically priced out of the Twins' market when he signed with the Dodgers. So, in that sense, acquiring him would be similar to what you're saying above: the Twins need to use Dozier to get a high-upside pitcher who they would otherwise not have a chance at. -
Article: Winter Meetings Are Over. Now What?
olivia11 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1. Trade Dozier (my hope would be for De Leon, Alvarez + two other low/organizational filler pieces). Then, that allows the Twins to do the following: -Trade a starting pitcher. Either E. Santana or Santiago. I personally think a Santana trade makes more sense at the trade deadline. Teams will be more desperate then and it also means Santana's around for the first half to mentor, in particular, Berrios and De Leon. A Santiago trade makes more sense, even if it's a relatively buy-low moment. The added value of the Santiago trade is it opens up a few more possibilities in the rotation. I'd like to see Santana, Gibson, May, Berrios, De Leon with Hughes being the question mark. By mid-season, Mejia, Gonsalves and Slegers could all be knocking on the door. -Sign a utility infielder who can play above-average defense at shortstop. I am a big Eduardo Escobar fan and think he deserves another shot. He's a better defender than he was in 2016. But Twins should also get some insurance on the defensive side. -Sign a LHRP if the contract is right. I don't think it makes sense to sign anyone, anyone mediocre-enough to want to come to the Twins right now, to more than a 2-year contract. -Sign a few bounce-back reliever candidates to minor league contracts. -Decide if the Twins believe in Danny Santana, Robbie Grossman and Michael Tonkin. Keep one...or two, not all three. Then, commit to signing a 4th outfielder. -

Article: Official Winter Meetings: Sunday Thread
olivia11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good point. The basic thought behind my idea is that in addition to getting 2 pitchers (one who can help now, and one who can help later and who has perhaps a higher ceiling than the first), we should try and get a position player to start to rebuild our position player prospect depth. I'm wondering if De Leon, Alvarez + Diaz could be had for Dozier plus a prospect other than Gordon, Jay, Gonsalves, Romero, Kiriloff.- 82 replies

2017 opening day rotation: Ervin Santana Jose Berrios Hector Santiago Kyle Gibson (Tyler Duffey, Trevor May, Adalberto Mejia) Now let's DFA/waiver trade Tommy Milone so we can use his spot to give other potential options an early tryout for the 2017 rotation. Try Wheeler right now while we stretch out May and fix Duffey. Bring Mejia up after he strings together 5 or so good starts in Rochester. Give Duffey another chance after working things out in the bullpen. Let's see how May responds to converting back into a starter. (Not that everything should be based on the last few months) but ideally a couple of them pitch well for the rest of the season - or we at least learn something to help us better evaluate our pitching staff. Maybe we can look to move Santana, Santiago or Gibson this offseason to strengthen our pitching depth.

Article: Official Trade Deadline Day Thread
olivia11 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the Rangers system matches up much better for what Antony will look for in a Santana trade. RHP Luis Ortiz and LHP Yohander Mendez are both bottom-half top 100 prospects with success at AA. RHP Ariel Jurado is a lower-ranked prospect but has pitched well at AA too. They've also got a couple A-ball catching prospects, Jose Trevino and David Garcia, ranked #25 and #27 in their system respectively who could potentially be added to a deal.- 553 replies
