  1. Hi, excellent breakdown of Gibby's stats. I had high hopes for him this year and so far he's been good/very good more often than not. Look, I don't want to be viewed as "that spell check" guy. But within the quote, "For all intensive purposes, the numbers were mediocre across the board." there is a mistake which for some unknown reason I'm seeing time and again on stories I read as of late. "intensive purposes" is the culprit. The correct term is "for all intents and purposes". there done. And again, I'm normally not that type of guy.
  2. Please forgive my ignorance. What is the difference between control and command of a pitch such as a fastball for instance? I've heardthe terms but thought they were interchangeable. Thanks.
  3. I think currently you have to look at Jepson and perhaps May as your closer depending on matchups, who walks the fewest guys and has a better chance of inducing ground balls and or strike outs. Next year I think Perkins returns to his role. If he is incompetent then I think you have to look to Jepson. Though we have some good young arms in the minors I am not sure I'd trust them in high leverage situations on a team that should compete for the playoffs. I'd prefer that they gain their experience in lesser roles in the BP and see what becomes of them. I haven't given up on May as a starter either. Right now we are using a shotgun approach with our starters by throwing them at a wall and seeing who sticks. Gibson has taken a pretty big step backwards from earlier. Pelfrey phhhht. Same with Santana. Duffy has promise thoug only as a 4-5 guy just as Milone is. So having May as a starter would boost our SP which needs help badly. So Jepson/May this year, Perkins/Jepson next year, an experienced young stud the year after that.
  4. What type of shift protects against home runs, and doubles off the wall? ;-)
  5. I'd like to see his stats if he played SS full time. I could see him knocking 12 to 15 hrs a year to go along with 25 to 30 dbls, 50-60 rbi, and to avg .260ish. Although who knows what his defensive stats would reveal?
  6. Great to see that the Angels lost to Detroit earlier and that Toronto has a 10-2 lead over Texas in the 5th. If Texas loses too, we are in the 2nd WC spot! Go back 2 weeks ago, and who'd a thunk?
  7. Looks like Nunez's 4-11 experience against the opposing pitcher helped him in that at bat to draw a walk and get an rbi.
  8. terry Ryan's dumpster diving efforts in going after middling free agent pitchers is as much to blame as anything for this fiasco. Nolasco and Santana have been disasters. Pelfry until this year was a disaster and even now is not a reliable pitcher by any stretch. Hughes after one good season is now showing why the Yankees allowed him to leave. For what we have paid for these 4 we could have had an ace and a great 2nd pitcher to go along with May, Gibson, and Berrios or some other inexpensive 5th starter. Terry Ryan is not a good judge of pitching talent period. No one can blame ex pitching coach Anderson for this garbage.
  9. you could only pull it off in a scenario where a team was rebuilding and needed Buxton more than their mid to more likely late 20's stud pitcher. We have a potentially strong outfield between our current roster and the minors. The pitcher would have to be an ace level guy, not even a strong #2. And I mean a big strong horse, a CC Sabathia type who isn't going to spend half his career on the DL. You'd want this pitcher to be able to pitch at an ace level for a decade. Normally a great everyday player's value would exceed that of a pitcher. However, pitching is the name of the game and the most important position on the field especially in a playoff game. An ace is a hard thing to find. In the above scenario, I'd do it.
  10. Somehow I don't see Arcia as any type of decent 1st baseman. Do you really think he is going to dig out those one hoppers consistently? Vargas, I could see more so than Arcia, at 1B.
  11. It is too bad that Mauer has little to no versatility. Other than moving him down in the batting order I don't see much to be done. I'd always heard that your best hitter should bat 3rd and that guy is Sano. Then you move everyone else up a spot and bat Joe 7th or so. His OB% is good enough to either spark a back of the order rally occasionally, or continue an ongoing rally with a walk or single. He would still have RBI opportunities courtesy off the guys in front of him. We need to limit his chances of gidp's so often. If he has guys with more power in front of him, perhaps there is a better chance that they are at least on 2nd base when he bats. The money owed to him, and his decided lack of versatility precludes his being a bench player. Ladies and gents, we are stuck with him at 1b till his contract is up.
  12. the player's union would oppose any restructuring of Joe's contract. This isn't pro football.
  13. Look at Tulo's home and away splits. He's much much better at home than the road.
  14. He's been quite good since he was recalled. He was also very good in the previous 2 years. He would have been a great "get" for Terry Ryan. Strange delivery though.
  15. I watch a lot of sports for free on this website http://www.goatdee.net/
