  1. \ As long as those players are putting forward maximum effort then I'd let those players stay up as a message that hard work gets rewarded. Sure it is nice to have guys develop at the ML level. But if sending a message now early on in Sano's career, is indeed necessary, then I think it is better to do it early rather than late.
  2. Here's an interesting quote from Molitor; Sano sat out three of the previous five days, during which the Twins went 3-0, Molitor noted. “I’m trying not to put people over other people just because of name and reputation,” Molitor said. “We have people I’ve been trying to get a good look at here, especially as we get into the last two months. I’d like to play him as much as I can, but there are days when it makes sense for me to get him to sit back and watch the game. Sometimes that can be good.” Molitor went on to suggest competition is good for all involved. “We’ve got to keep these guys hungry and not (let them) get comfortable,” Molitor said. “(Sano) is not the only one that we’re going to have to continue to do that with.”
  3. I get your point about complainers though I'm not really one of those guys. For instance, I'm not a Mauer basher. I'm just disappointed from several reports about Sano that I've read this season. As old as I am, I've seen a number of pro athletes who for whatever reason didn't take their craft as seriously as they should, and a middling career that ends with a lot of "what if" questions, is the end result.
  4. Interesting that today, the Strib would have a story based upon the same premise. They included the fact that Sano recently skipped batting practice despite being mired in a slump and putting up a record # of K's. Plenty of people are questioning his work ethic.
  5. Normally, I'd say let him stay up here and learn as we are going with a youth movement and are going to have to get used to them learning on the job. But I think Sano could use a dose of seeing where he came from, to ensure that his focus on improvement is razor sharp. I was disappointed to read reports that he reported to camp much heavier than the Twins wanted, and that he'd had little to no practice at RF in the offseason. He's already bigger than Hrbek (who's as big as a house now) was when he retired, and Herbie's lack of attention to his physical conditioning probably cost him a couple of lost years in his career. Herbie was on the DL quite a few times in his career and Sano has already been on the Dl twice in his young career with hammy problems.
  6. That was a young lineup even with Grossman, Nunez and Dozier in it. Impressive.
  7. I think this team is finding themselves. Going forward, I hope that they realize that it takes a whole season of playing well. They cannot under any circumstances start next season the way they did this year. I think they missed Torii early on and the losing compounded the problem. I just know how it has been when I've lost a favored coworker who kept the job fun. There is an adjustment period. Now they seem to realize that they can do this and make their own fun by winning.
  8. Nice pick up by Sano! Great job kinzler and the rest of you.
  9. I just went back through the MVP selections and nope, I couldn't find anyone. I did find 1 player who was out of the league within 2 full seasons after winning the MVP After the 1925 season, Roger Thorpe Peckinpaugh won the AL MVP and his last game was the end of the 1927 season. I found 3 guys who were out 3 seasons after winning the MVP. Walter Johnson won it in1924, George Burns in 1926, and Mickey Cochran in 1934, they retired respectively in 1927, 1929, and 1937. That's what a quick check showed anyways. It would not surprise me if I missed any.
  10. Couldn't find anything other than doing it the hard way and checking baseball reference. http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/mvp_cya.shtml
  11. We still have the lead. Come on Abad, just get the next guy. It sure would have looked good to the Rangers, Orioles, et al if he'd have come through there.
  12. If Abad gets Ortiz, it can only help his trade value in some incremental way.
  13. Nice job by Eddie to hold Pedroia at 2nd.
  14. Vargas's slide was quite reminiscent of a certain Randy Bush slide.
  15. I think this is a real confidence builder for the team. To keep coming back again and again vs. a very good team in their park is impressive. Shows that they are starting to "get it" between the ears.
  16. Twins win! Twins win! Ohhhhhh Twins win...
  17. Jepsen gives up a dinger, boy who saw that coming?
  18. nice play Joe, that had double written all over it.
  19. Let's hope the umpires want this to end quickly on account of the rain, and open up the K zone for Jepsen.
  20. whatever it takes. It isn't like my lucky T-shirt has helped. In fact, it needs to be laundered badly. Lot's of spilled beer on it and I can't always contain it when I vomit in my mouth a little bit while watching them play.
  21. Look at this team adding to their lead, late in the game. I'd forgot what that was like.
