Article: Twins Prospect Pulse: Monitoring the Minors
Pitz replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was not that high on Kirilloff coming into the year, but I continue to be more and more impressed. Checked his splits yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that he's crushing both lefties and righties.- 24 replies

Article: 2018 MLB Draft Day 1 Thread
Pitz replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Admittedly, I have paid very little attention to predraft stuff. From the small amount I've read since the pick was made - Larnach sounds a lot like Kirilloff. -
So, I think what you are saying about "command" vs. "control" is not exactly correct either - though I think you're getting at it. I was actually going to comment about how I get the distinction, but it doesn't totally make sense. Then I figured I should maybe look it up to see if I actually understand the concept and found this article really helpful. So I'm just understanding this better myself (learn something new every day I guess) "Command" is not the 'ability to put the pitch where you want to' - that would still be "control" which is all about location. "Command" has to do with movement (which you actually were talking about in the rest of your post) - but it has to do with commanding how the pitch will move - but not necessarily it's location (that's the control piece). Curve ball curves, slider slides, sinker sinks, etc (and I would assume to some level with the type of velocity the pitcher is intending as well - which would be particularly relevant to the discussion of Romero's change up). So a pitcher with good command but poor control can make his pitches move - but they may end up in poor locations (either balls that hitters won't swing at, or very hittable strikes). A pitcher with good control but not great command can hit his spots but his pitches won't move as much or as consistently as he may like. Pitcher's with great command and control (aces) are able to consistently get their pitches to move the way they want them to and end up in the spots they want them to.

Article: Buxton’s Back: Was No Rehab a Mistake?
Pitz replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So the conversation has kind of moved on from the original question about Buxton needing some rehab time, but I was just reading this and (unless I'm not understanding it correctly) it makes me think Buxton wouldn't have even been eligible to go on much of a rehab assignment. I guess he still had 1 or 2 days left from his original rehab assignment, but that probably wasn't worth it. And it probably wouldn't have been worth it to recall him, sit him for five days, then send him back on rehab. Might as well get him back in the outfield and hope he catches up to speed with the bat soon.- 60 replies

20 days for position players, 30 days for pitchers. I wasn't aware of the potential extension for TJ recoveries until I read Mr. Brooks' post. but it certainly makes sense. https://www.thecubreporter.com/minor-league-rehabilitation-assignment

Enlow's final line doesn't look too good, and the 30 strikes to 25 balls ratio is not particularly encouraging. But I also see that 4 of the 5 hits he gave up were ground balls. I join you in looking for cleaner outings from Enlow as he develops.

Without doing much research, I have to imagine that Akil Baddoo's early season statistical profile is pretty rare. I was just checking his stats on Fangraphs (which had not been updated with last night's game). Many who follow the Twins minor leaguers are probably at least somewhat aware that he has a great OBP (over .400) while his BA is quite low (.212). Amazingly that low batting average comes with a high BABIP (.340). Roughly 55% of his plate appearances end in either a walk (23.7%) or a strikeout (31.6%). It's hard to complain about a guy getting on base at a 40% clip, but cutting down on the K's could see Baddoo really take off like many have hoped he would. (His K% has seen a significant increase with the jump to full season ball.)

Molitor's bullpen usage this inning is about as perplexing to me as KAT still playing in the final 2 minutes with a 17 point lead. -
Yes, the hyperbole was intended. My post was meant to be very light hearted. If I were to make a more serious post... I don't think Gonsalves being put at AA had anything to do with the weather. Because weather is pretty hard to predict. And if keeping those who are next in line ready is the argument, then why is Mejia in Rochester? And probably Slegers? Plus, I don't think there is too strong of an argument that Gonsalves would be clearly ahead of Romero on a 'next in line to the majors' list. Seems like a bit of grasping at straws as to why Gonsalves is in AA. I don't fully get the decision but I am really not worried about it. No heartburn here. Well at least not because of the minor league assignments.

Was this then also their way of limiting Romero's innings? Send him to Rochester where he might not pitch til May? Now that's some out of the box thinking

I would probably also go with Brusdar. Good to see him bounce back with two strong starts after a rough outing. Just 3 hits 2 walks and 1 earned run to go with 11 strikeouts in 9 innings over his last 2 starts.

Article: Rule 5 Addition Discussion
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but consideration also has to be given to how it would impact the player's development. Roster constraints also impact the decisions the team has to make about other players as well.- 93 replies

Article: Rule 5 Addition Discussion
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I may be wrong about this because I don't fully understand the rule 5 eligibility parameters, but doesn't Diaz have another year before he needs to be added? According to his MiLB page, he signed in November of 2013, so wouldn't that put him in the same boat as Palacios and Arraez? If he is eligible this year, I would tend to agree with others who have pointed out that it seems unlikely that a team would give a 25-man spot to a guy who hasn't played above low A. Edit: I also see an article from Ben Badler dated July 2, 2013 saying that the Twins signed Lewin Diaz. So, that should help muddy the water. I was wondering if/how much these stipulations effect international signings. Seems that teams would want to wait until later to sign the players - so they could agree to terms but wait until the fall to officially sign. On the other hand, I suppose players/agents could push to sign earlier to try to get on the 40-man earlier.- 93 replies

If thats the case Etown will have lost 2 SPs from their rotation. I guess Widell did just start pitching for them, but I wonder how they will fill those spots.

They could have some decent pitching as well. I would think Barnes and Widell will be there. Guys like Stewart and Gonsalves were there the year after they were drafted so Enlow and perhaps Leach could be there and pootentially Graterol. The Kernels should have a very exciting squad next year.
