Article: Twins Being Overwhelmed By Underperformance
Pitz replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looks like there are a couple college catchers projected at the top of the draft next year. So there's that. -
Two things I noticed looking at the Red Wings box score/info. Buxton's homerun was off Joe Kelly (a guy with pretty significant big league experience). Also, Buxton grounded into a double play - I didn't even know that was possible.

I got the info off of Gameday. You can see all the Twins' affiliates' scores by going here. This also allows you to navigate to different dates. The game day link allows you to see a little more information about pitch by pitch, but it takes some navigating and still doesn't provide info about pitch type (and I'm not sure the pitch location is the most reliable either).

Not an eyewitness account, but according to gameday (which unfortunately doesn't have information on pitch type), his doubles were sharp ground balls to right and left (I'm assuming down the first and third base line; 0-1 count and 2-1 count respectively). He actually fell behind 0-2 (looking and swinging) before drawing his walk (fouling off two pitches in the process). Outs were a sharp groundout to third (2-2 count) and a popup to second (1-1 count).

I'm a little confused about why James Beresford has been batting third for the Red Wings. Nothing against him as a player, I root for him to get a chance on a big league roster, but this just doesn't make much sense to me. Probably not a big deal, but a bit of a head-scratcher. Any insights?

I hopeth so. Twins offensive offense against Keuchel doesn't sound too promising, so we may need an ace-ish performance from Berrios.

According to the box score, he committed his third error yesterday. Of course errors don't tell the whole story of one's defense, so take that for whatever its worth. I haven't seen him play but all the reports I've read don't seem to raise any concerns about his SS defense - solid glove/arm though not spectacular.

Thanks for the report and pictures. Can you say any more about Arraez's home runs? From what I've seen in reports, his swing is geared to contact. Just wondering if perhaps he's making some adjustment in the swing to drive the ball a bit more. That may be hard to tell from your limited viewing of him, but I'd love to hear any thoughts you might have about his swing/approach.

Article: Twins Minor League Leaderboard (through 4/16)
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In looking at his minor league numbers a few days ago and now reading this report, I keep thinking Placido Polanco, who seemed to be somewhat underrated. He was also somewhat annoying (as an opponent) because he was just a tough out. I'd be thrilled if Arraez had a comparable MLB career to Placido for the Twins. Of course he's got a long way to go to get there.- 21 replies

First professional HR for Arraez. His K rate is very impressive, as is his K/BB ratio. What's the word on his defense?

Article: Twins Minor League Report (8/14): LIVE UPDATES
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sorry, my comment wasn't necessarily meant as a dig on the Twins. I guess what I was trying to get at was whether anyone has asked - I'd like to know more about why he was demoted and then promoted. Maybe it is just purely based on his results (bad and good), but I would suspect that more has gone into the decisions. What I was really hoping for was that somebody inquired about the promotion and someone within the org said that they believed they had smoothed out something in his mechanics (or some other important factor that could be more indicative of future success) and he was ready to go back up. Just as a curious fan, I'd like to know what it was that 'he needed to do' that he did. I'm glad he did it and is back up, and hope he continues to do it (someday soon with the Twins). Thanks, as always Seth, for your report and engaging in the discussion board posts and questions. Much appreciated.- 15 replies

Article: Twins Minor League Report (8/14): LIVE UPDATES
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins generally don't seem to be all that forthcoming with information about promotions. It is good to see Burdi back in AA and have a successful outing, but I'm curious as to how they determined he was ready to head back to Chattanooga. Were they able to figure out/correct something mechanically or otherwise? Did they just want to get him back up before the AA playoffs so that they can see if he will be an asset out of the pen come postseason time? Are they just hoping he will be better this time around?- 15 replies

Article: Twins Minor League Report (8/14): LIVE UPDATES

Lachlan Wells has pretty quietly put together a quite successful GCL campaign. I was wondering how he compared to Lewis Thorpe's GCL season. A comment about a month ago from Bob Sacramento mentioned this comparison. As I looked at the numbers, they are very similar except in one major category (which is why Thorpe deservedly received more publicity than Wells is getting). Thorpe 2013 - 44.0 IP, 2.05 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, .203 AVG, 32 Hits, 2 HR, 6 BB, 64 K Wells 2015 - 42.1 IP, 2.13 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, .205 AVG, 31 Hits, 3 HR, 10 BB, 44 K Can anyone verify Wells' height/weight? His player page has him listed at 5'8" 163, but also lists him as a right handed pitcher.- 15 replies

I thought I posted this earlier, but I must have encountered some sort of error - or I'm going crazy. Thanks for the excellent report. I have questions about 3 players that may have been addressed elsewhere and I missed them. If so, my apologies. What is Zander Wiel's injury? I hope this missed time doesn't prevent him from starting in CR next year. Any information on Brusdar Graterol? I recall it being mentioned several weeks ago that he had come stateside and I thought that meant he would be joining the GCL team. He is not listed on the roster though and hasn't pitched since June 20th. Is he dealing with an injury as well? Also wondering about Taylor Clemensia who is on the E'town roster but has yet to pitch in any games.

Article: Twins Minor League Report (7/21): Sweet Sixteenth
Pitz replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think it does say something about the Twins' opinion of Blankenhorn that they drafted him ahead of Cabbage (who, iirc, was viewed by most as the better prospect) and promoted him to Elizabethton already as a high school draftee. Of course his performance carries the small sample size caveat, but it is still great to see him having early success.- 13 replies

I believe the Kernels have already clinched a playoff spot by finishing second in their division in the first half. I doubt the Twins would promote him at this point. I was actually going to comment that Engelb Vielma has had a fantastic June and July. I would guess that the Twins would like to keep Vielma and Gordon at separate levels as long as possible so they can both continue to play SS everyday. (Unless Gordon really forces the issue at some point next year.)- 13 replies

Very surprised to see Graterol promoted to GCL at only 16. He hasn't pitched in any DSL games since June 20th. But he has put up impressive numbers in a small sample striking out 17 and walking 1 in 11 innings. does this mean the Twins regard him higher than Ynoa?

Is that information correct? It also lists him as right-handed, but in the various images that come up in a google search he appears to throw lefty. I also thought I had found different height/weight for him elsewhere but can't find it and don't recall where - so maybe I just imagined it.
