  1. Berrios and Bard were both compensation round picks after the first round. Walker was the Twins 6th pick, but he was selected in the third round. Twins Picks Astros Picks Buxton (2; 1st round; $6 mill) Correa (1;1) $4.8 mill Berrios (32; Comp A; $1.55m) McCullers (41; A; $2.5m) Bard (42; Comp A $1.23m) Fontana (61; 2; $875k) Melotakis (63; 2; $750k) Rodgers (96; 3; $495k) Chargois (72; 2; $713k) Ruiz (129; 4; $1.85m) Walker (97; 3; $490k) Z. Jones (130; 4; $357k) sorry the formatting may be off; left side is twins pick, right side is astros. (pick; round; bonus) IIRC, the Twins had the largest bonus pool due to the compensation picks.
  2. Vance Worley no-hitting the D-backs thru 5 innings
  3. His fellow Aussie is having a decent outing himself tonight for E-town. Through 5 IP, Gibbons has 11 K's and scattered three singles
  4. According to the McDaniel article I linked earlier, the Yankees did seem to hide their strategy. The signings they made were actually agreements made back in December. It was after these agreements were made that their "intentions" or strategy was well reported - by the time it was reported it seems it had already been executed. From the article: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1375072.html
  5. Kiley McDaniel has some interesting write-ups regarding the Yankees strategy: Yankees unprecedented international plans - KMcD originally broke the story in December (http://sbb.scout.com/2/1361172.html) I actually wasn't able to read this for some reason so I'm not sure if the link will work Scout.com’s Kiley McDaniel KMcD provides update on strategy including plans to have a second signing binge later (http://sbb.scout.com/2/1362376.html) game theory implications KMcD discusses why they did it this year. It doesn't seem that it really had much to do with them viewing this as a particularly talented class, but a matter of budget timing and the view that the system is likely to change soon anyway (http://sbb.scout.com/2/1362376.html)
  6. JJ Cooper of Baseball America had some interesting tweets about E-town's game JJ Cooper (jjcoop36) on Twitter Gonsalves - 87-89; dropped to 85-86 in 6th. effectively used good change, slow curve, and good location. Royals team they faced is the org's lowest level so their team is made up of a lot more younger guys than the Twins'. Gordon's HR on slow curve; Cooper says he'll have video but I haven't seen it yet.
  7. I've noticed that these two guys' names haven't been showing up recently in the DSL Twins' box scores. Diaz hasn't played since June 12th and Tapia last played on June 16th. News from the DSL seems to be hard to come by, but I was wondering if anybody had any information on why they haven't been playing. Injury? Doing more instructional work?
  8. Any information regarding Curtiss or 11th rounder Tanner English?
  9. What if strike 3 is a passed ball, and upon retrieving it, the catcher throws wildly to first allowing the runner to go to second. As the pitcher strikes out the next batter, the runner attempts to steal third and the catcher's throw skips away, and the runner scampers home. The pitcher strikes out the next 2 batters en route to an improbable 28 strike out performance, going even above and beyond what God intended, yet he loses the game 1-0 as the opposing pitchers scatter 8 hits.
  10. Regarding Laws comment. It came from his May 30th chat: Paul (Dallas, TX) Thoughts on Kennys Vargas (New Britain - Twins) making it to The Show this year and projection as a pro hitter? Klaw (3:09 PM) AAAA guy for me. Certainly not a 1b. Only one 1b in the majors clocking in at three hundred bills right now and he's on the DL. I've been a little skeptical of Vargas up until this year. He seems to definitely be showing something at AA this year. I wonder how much Law has really paid attention to Vargas this year, especially with all the draft work. Vargas' season has definitely been solid and encouraging for Twins' prospect followers, but maybe not so loud for national analysts such as Law to really take notice.
  11. Aside from the HR, he's off to kind of a rough start. Primarily DHing as well.
  12. I appreciated the good chuckle this gave me. Thanks
  13. How about now?
  14. Nice to see Vargas back in the lineup tonight.
  15. The Red Wings are off today. Meyer will be starting tomorrow night along with Wimmers for the Miracle and Slegers for the Kernels.
  16. Any chance you guys could move this radke back-and-forth to its own thread if you wish to continue not changing each others' mind? I realize it started as draft related but it is no longer and it isn't really contributing positively to the discussion about the draft.
  17. Thanks for the report. Nice to see the very good starts from Berrios and May. I have to admit that I've been skeptical of Vargas' prospect status, but am very encouraged by what he has done in AA so far. It seems to me that May is going to be a very inconsistent starter, with some pretty ugly starts and some pretty dominant starts. I'm wondering how Twins management feels about that. It has been suggested that his best fit might be in the bullpen, but I think he has much more value as a starter. Even if his starts are frustratingly inconsistent, he can still provide a lot of innings over the course of a season and has ace-like upside for any given start.
  18. If my memory serves me, I think I read from Berardino that Hughes actually told Anderson that he didn't have 'it' to go back out. Sorry, too lazy to go back and look for a link. Edit: Overcame my laziness: http://www.twincities.com/News/ci_25734106/Twins-2-Tiger-1:-Phil-Hughes "Every pitcher has a certain amount of pride," Hughes said after an eventual 2-1 win at Comerica Park over longtime foe Justin Verlander. "I felt like my stuff and location were deteriorating. You don't want to give the game away just because you're feeling prideful or whatever."
  19. Thanks for the heads up. That could have been embarrassing
  20. I'm not Cody, but I don't think I would pass up the chance to see Stewart (although May is not a bad alternative)
  21. I'm curious if the move to the pen is a permanent one, or if it might be a case where they swap him with one of the starters later in the year as a way of managing innings over the course of the season. Or maybe he moves to the rotation if one of the college guys (Eades or Slegers) gets promoted. Anybody have any insight on this? It seems to me that most scouts tend to project guys of his size to the pen.
  22. since minor leaguers are being discussed ... parm has a 3 run homer and a 2 run homer in his first two ab's this afternoon. It seems pretty clear he can rake at AAA, what can the Twins do with him?
