  1. It's true that the window is starting to crack open a touch. The issue is that the only way they are going to get the pitching needed to truly compete is going to be through trades. They are going to have to trade prospects that we have followed and really like. A thing that we have to also come to grips with is the system isn't that good at the top. Gonsalves MIGHT be a pretty solid MLB pitcher. Romero MIGHT be a pretty solid MLB pitcher. After that, it's pretty much back end types... maybe. For the most part here we tend to way overvalue prospects and especially "our" prospects. To get something cost something. If they just didn't miss so hard in a couple of the drafts...
  2. That's just a myth. Most contestants are having an above normal season when entering the derby and they just even out in the second half of the season to their career norms.
  3. This is odd. Maybe Lewis didn't give a discount. Maybe they just thought he was the best player in the draft.
  4. It's like people forget how starved The Twins were at short not even that long ago. Most teams are though. They have three pretty good ones now with this kid as a fourth. Good, all around, SS are hard to find. These are assets that can be traded. It's far from the end of the world.
  5. Yeah, fella seemed pretty disappointed.
  6. HS players go 1-3. Maybe other teams saw the same flaws in the NCAA players.
  7. Are we almost finished with the Gimeniz era? Cool, he can mop up an inning. With no actual stats that I looked at, it just seems like when Castro is catching, the team pitchers are better.
  8. I wasn't ever really a Grossman fan till the last few weeks. There was just something about him that bugged me. Like a thrombosed hemorrhoid, he has grown on me though. He's actually pretty fun to watch.
  9. I don't get why it's so unreasonable to try to improve the current roster and be buyers. It seems everyone is set on trying to make some sort of super team that's capable of going 162-0. I'm not saying to clear out the farm here but, as it stands right now, the prospects they have are not really that great. The system is about to get restocked with the draft. The number one prospect isn't even in the system yet. Probably the #4 and #8 too! There is some dead weight on the 25 man that really wouldn't take too much to improve. The lineup is doing really well and the defense has been great. I say buy and not sell.
  10. I wonder if it was Pool Cash or just Straight cash homie cash...
  11. He’s 17, and I got to interview him a couple of weeks ago. This is an impressive person. It’s an impressive body. You don’t see kids like that. I see kids all the time for the job. I don’t see many kids build like that, athletic like that, loose like that, still projectable and already throwing in the upper-90s.
  12. This is the one site I visit daily if I only have time to goof off on the internet. Thank you guys for the quality content you produce.
  13. It looks rough right now. Some of the younger guys like Daiz and Javier will be future top 100 guys. They, also, have something like 4 draft picks in the top 75. I would bet that by this time next year, they will have plenty more names on the top 100 list.
  14. I just think that if the Dodger were actually offering JDL plus Alvarez, they could have gotten a much better 2nd baseman. I like Dozier a whole bunch and all, but he might be about the 7th-10th best 2nd baseman in baseball. Add in the age of the guys better than he is.... Side note... what do you think the Rays think about Polanco....
  15. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/pg-national-greene-shines-day-one/#SkrywGxkmFFUzMgO.97 He threw three breaking balls. The first, in an 0-1 count, showed hard sweeping action and broke with two-plane movement. The next two had no clear breaking point, looking like Greene’s fastball from the time they left the hand until just a few feet before the plate, when they showed short horizontal break. Sure, it's only three pitches, but it sounds like he has the a pretty solid curve in this write-up. Looks like his fastball than dies a few feet before the plate... Sounds like the makings of a pretty good pitch. http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/06/13/2017-mlb-draft-tanner-houck-jaren-kendall He’s also shown a plus curveball, and if he can throw his changeup with more consistency, he has a real chance to be a top-10 pick. Again, talking about his "plus curve." https://vine.co/v/5qEqOwbb9DA This is a nice looking slider. http://www.espn.com/blog/mlb-draft/insider/post?id=2966 He sat at 94-96 mph with his fastball with considerable movement and touched 98. His slider was inconsistent at best during the Under Armour All-American Game the previous month, but it flashed plus here, and he was able to locate the pitch for strikes for the most part. He also showed a change in the mid-80s that he buried down with good arm speed, and although he didn't have great feel for it, you can see the makings of a quality third offering. Yeah, he isn't a perfect pitcher yet, but he has the makings of an ace. He might be the only ace in this whole draft. If he should happen to fail as a pitcher, he has a back-up plan as an everyday nine. What more do you need?
  16. I can't find a Montas with the Dodgers org. Maybe a link? If they were talking about Frankie Montas, maybe this well informed talking head could read about the Rich Hill trade. Or maybe the Dodgers are allowed to use Oakland prospects as a trade chip, but that would be a really odd arrangement.
  17. This, to me, would be an excellent "blueprint" to get back to back number one picks.
  18. It's not really think that not retaining someone is the same as firing them. My guess is everyone that isn't already on a contract will be reviewed when The Falvey take the chair. I would highly doubt that he is doing any Twins work right now while he is being paid by Cleveland. If he is doing Twins work now, he would be told to leave now instead of later. The entire Indians organization needs to be focused on the postseason 100% and if someone isn't, it would be better if left now.
  19. There is no way the the Falvey. Is going to come in an blow the entire thing up in his first season. I have been in the military and also worked for major fortune 500 companies and when new leadership come in the direction take shape over time. New leadership has to use the existing infrastructure for the initial push into a new direction for a smooth transition. Most people get it, it's business, but they are still people. On top of that, there is severance to prepare budgets to plan more people to hire departments close and departments open. He is going to have to review performances. He is going to have so much to do plus his current team is working on a World Series and if they get far, he is going to have even less time to a house cleaning. The team turnaround is not going to be all that long, they should be in a position to play October baseball in three years. Let's let it all play out over the next full season and see the direction this guy goes. A major business transaction is not easy, I have been working for a major company that has done it successfully so far and when you are working through it, you just have to buy into it, and trust that the person they hired is capable to pull it off. End of rant.
  20. I'm going to be shouting Hunter Greene all the way to draft day. He has potential to be more than a staff ace, he is the only play, at this very early point, to be a yearly Cy Young candidate. 2018, Seth Beer. Just need to suck next season too, shouldn't be too hard.
  21. I'm really hoping the new executive can work some magic with Stewart. I think he should be a big benefit to his career or he can flip him for something. Diaz is going to be an amazing hitter. Yeah, he is going to be an all bat prospect, but that bat will play. Gonslave, Gordon, Romero, Jay, and Kirilloff in that order than? That is a really nice top five. I would swap Diaz and Kirilloff but a very nice looking lot.
  22. 2018 might bring in that magic bat. There is going to be Seth Beer(awesome name) from Clemson. His numbers are outstanding. Also, it's really early here, Will Banfield as a high school catcher right now looks really impressive both as a catcher and with the bat. 2018 is pretty far off though.
  23. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/pg-national-greene-shines-day-one/#hr6Zq28jwOK4XRdU.97 Sound like his breaking ball is a very nice pitch in this write-up. http://www.si.com/mlb/2016/06/13/2017-mlb-draft-tanner-houck-jaren-kendall Here is also talks about his plus curve and says he needs more consistency with his change-up, meaning it has shown some flash. I'm just saying, this is the #1 pick in the 2017 draft. He won't start off in AA, but he should have no problem getting there in 2 years and knocking on the MLB door in three. He is the only ace at this time in the draft.
  24. At this very, very point, they should pick Hunter Greene. He will be in AA by 2019 and knocking on the door in 2020. He should be on the same MLB track as most college arms and, again at the very early point, he is the only real ace in the draft. Then, in the 2018 draft, they should pick up Will Banfield... If they can. He is going to be "the next big thing" There is no reason to believe that the Twins can't pull of another awful season and pick #1 again right?
